@bearbottommining I never thought about researching past filed areas...I live in Chattanooga, Tn and grew up in North Ga. I have hunted, fly fished, and camped all through the mountains from Elijay out to Dahlonega up through Tellico into the Smokies. I am very lucky to live so close to the best Gold in the Eastern US....this is a new found hobby for me and my 13 year old nephew and I am doing as much research on this as possible to get the best equipment that we can afford.

You had me right up to the artificial nuggets at the end, LOL! Nothing wrong with the sluice but I'm not breaking my back leaning over a river to bucket water into it, If anything I think what's missing in the market is a hand operated pump inc. a small reservoir to create the time gap where one person can drop material into a sluice & pump water from a river. A metronome pump would work and be light to carry; you'd get waterbag weight for the pendulum from the river, empty it later. It'd go on pumping a while unattended. You could also use a treadle pump; stand on it and transfer your weight from side to side whilst spooning in the material. We don't need gas pumps.

Hi Mouse...…………...See you are using your imagination......you can divert water with a couple of lengths of ABS and a coupling so you have continuous flow into the top hopper, you can use a 3/4" garden hose, a transmission funnel, and an on/off valve to control the amount of water your dumping into the top hopper, although you don,t have to worry too much Mouse....If you dump too much water into the top hopper, the Grizzly Sluice III will back flush any excess, so there is no chance of washing any gold out of the riffle system. I've been bucketing water into the Grizzly Sluice III for a very long time and I'm not dead yet. I've noticed that a lot of people have an aversion to work. Prospecting is work Mouse. The harder you get out there and prospect, the more gold you will find. ( pretty simple Huh?) Try setting the Grizzly Sluice III on a director's camp chair, undercutting one side a couple of inches to achieve the 12 degree angle which allows the top hopper to be level.

Most people also look for the *smart* way to work not a crazy back-breaking method to acquire max concentrates. A lightweight portable folding handpump with a reservoir would work a bit like Air in Bagpipes; To the BatDesignboard!

Thanks for the question. Yes this box can find any type of gold out there.From 900 fine....to coarse gold....to flake gold.....to nuggets!! The bonus is that it saves precious and semi precious stones as well. It's being used in Africa right now to save gold and diamonds!!

@200MatchKing Thanks for your question...The fine and coarse gold trap on the back side of the riffles of the 1/2" expanded metal. The start up of more water flow is regulated by the patented baffle inside the box. There is never a big gush of water that surges through the box. The fines have already trapped behind the eddy formed by the riffle system and stay there until you do your cleanup.

@jacklane61 Thanks for your question...It's a fixed screen that after inspection for nuggets and precious stones is easily swept off with your hand or a margin trowel. Or you can vigorously wash a bucket of water through the box and it slides the small rocks and debris off the back of the screen. Your fines have already gone down through the trough and into the lower riffle system for collection.

So you're trying to say it's more convenient to have a sluice box out of the water.. I'm not breaking my back all day to bucket water into my sluice when there's free running water nearby anyway.. Crazyness

This was made as an out-of-stream sluice box. Here in the Western US (as with many other parts of the country, you are not allowed to use an in-stream box! So this solves that problem. You can either bucket the water, or you can divert the water with pipe/hose to feed the box with water. Also, we have had great luck bringing our own water (55-gal) and a tub with recirculation pump to old abandoned mine tailings in the deserts were there is no water!

So....obviously you don't work much huh? If you think outside the box Alex, you could figure out that you can divert stream water with a couple of sections of 4" ABS and a coupling. Also you can go up stream and place a 100 foot X1" garden hose with transmission funnel to draw a good flow of water into the hose. You then break down and spend the big bucks on an on/Off hose valve from Home DE-Pot. This box can be worked to the side of a stream, which is beneficial during heavy spring run off. Also worked by a lake, a beaver dam, a very small creek with a slow flow, which you can catch in a "bucket" and find more gold in a narrow crevice of bedrock up a small canyon than you would ever find in a large river system with a cheap in stream sluice box that if your lucky catches half your coarse gold and absolutely no flower gold!!! This box can be used in the desert. Can your cheap in stream sluice box do that? NO!!! But we wouldn't want you to hurt your back on finding really good gold in places where most lazy people don't go. Have a nice day........

That's right....I wouldn't want you to hurt yourself doing something that might strain your back. The Grizzly sluice III will also work well when fed water from a couple of pieces of 4" ABS joined together with a coupling, or a 100 ft by 1" garden hose put in the stream up above your area your working and let gravity be your friend. Try to use some imagination. Better yet, stay home and you wont have to worry about straining your delicate body.

You can use any sluice in the desert, you just need to provide the water. A stream sluice is easily usable in the desert. Well....not that easily. Just purchase a header box, set the slope, two big ass bins and one 5 gallon bucket for the end and keep recirculating the water. Also for the same price you can get the Gold Hog piglet with a set of the mats. I like that deal better.

You hit it right on the head John!! I have been explaining to our customers that there are many applications to operating the Grizzly Sluice III A transmission funnel works very well to collect the stream water into a 3/4" garden hose. If you attach a simple screw on on/off valve on the end of the garden hose you won't end up with a muddy mess in your work area between your loads of dirt you bring to the Grizzly Sluice III

That's Montana Gold!!!......You didn't comment about all the precious stones we found as well!!! This box saves all the coarse gold, but it also saves all the very fine gold 400 minus as well.Not to mention the precious stones as a bonus. Who else can claim to save gold with their equipment that is that fine? The answer is no...body but us!!

A lot of work. Bucketing water and flipping top box bucketing material in. The unit is very compact and straightforward. I would suggest a hopper and pump to reduce labour.

Thanks.....each box has built in stainless steel pem fitting pressed into the back of the box, so every single box can be fitted as a Deluxe model with detachable back pack straps.

@mdunn1150 Thanks for your kind words....With the Grizzly Sluice III you can turn the once or twice a year prospecting trips into every weekend. You can take the family with you and introduce them into the great hobby of prospecting. Do some research at the county court house on the areas around you that the old timers filed on. Get your GPS coordinates and go right to those spots. It's a great family hobby. This box will save flour gold that the other prospectors equipment blows right out.

@200MatchKing You can also take it out in the desert with you. Take 10 gallons of water....two galvanized tubs, and a 22" long 4x4 to go across the back of the back tub. This sets up a perfect angle for operation of the Grizzly Sluice III. Re-circulate your water using the free collapsible bucket I send when I sell a box and work that desert wash all day long... Do you know how much gold is in those desert washes? a lot!!

This sluice may well be a good tool for prospecting - I haven't tried it - but yes, the last part is staged. I think the video author(s) assume everyone watching knows you won't find that much gold or precious stones. Notice the gold nuggets and gems are all the same size. Not a range of sizes. The author is trying to create a little EXCITEMENT!

Most unique sluice box I have ever seen!! It is a three stage, out of the stream sluice box with it's own built in water regulation baffle. So you can't accidentally wash the gold out of the box. Excellent construction.....Good Job!!

@mogges1 They do make larger back packs.......I have had several customers tell me they were going into areas that some times the park rangers didn't like them going with a sluice box....They simply put it in their larger back pack and carry it right in.

Very easy....The screen can be washed off after inspection for nuggets or stones. You can dump a full bucket of water in the top hopper which washes the secondary screen clean, or you can just sweep it off of the back of the box with the back of your hand or a margin trowel. Pretty simple. pretty easy.....

@Pengy329 Go to your County Court house and ask to see the old placer mining claims. Go to your local Library and do research on gold in Ohio. That will tell you if it's worth spending your time searching the areas that are known gold locations before you waste all your time searching in areas that do not have gold, or any history of gold in the past.

This box is engineered to control water flow through the box, no matter how fast you dump the water in. It has it's own self protection system that is goof proof. A person without any experience in gold panning and sluicing can save as much gold as someone that has been doing it for 20 years? This box will not allow you to lose any gold, including fine flour gold that everyone else can't hold onto.

It is the only sluice box in the world that has a patented water regulation system engineered into it's design. It's Goof Proof! you can't lose the gold no matter how fast you dump the water into it. It automatically back flushes the excess water off the back of the box. The heavies have already dropped through two Grizzly screens and safely into the built in trough, where it goes through the baffle system and is evenly run over the bottom riffle system. That's why it saves 99.9% of all flour gold dumped into it. How much flour gold has anyone saved with a traditional Rocker or in stream sluice box? Answer; not much, if nothing at all. I wished all the streams had nice big nuggets, but they don't! But 90 percent of your streams have flour gold. It adds up quickly using the Grizzly Sluice III.

We developed the Grizzly Sluice Jr. It weighed 6.5 pounds and worked every bit as well as the full sized Grizzly Sluice, but the Jr. cost us only twenty dollars less to build and we were selling it at a loss of 80.00 per box. We decided to wait until we could produce 5000 boxes at a time to get the cost down.

I need a compact sluice to process a lot of black beach sand for fine glacial gold. I am not able to run a pump, and cannot pan enough sand by hand. Will this unit work for this application, or would it be pushing the service duty to use the unit in this fashion? Am I understandng that it was designed for Western course gold?

Thank you for the question Michael...The Grizzly Sluice III was primarily designed to catch not only coarse gold, nuggets, precious and semi-precious stones, but most importantly, it was designed to save gold off the Snake River in Idaho that is micro fine gold. In other words, fly specs, and at a rate of 99.9 percent retention due to the patented water regulation baffle built right into the box that no one else's equipment on the market has. I once ran a gentleman's full baby bathtub full of black sand concentrates off the snake river through the Grizzly Sluice III. The riffle system filled up with black sand and I was a little worried about boil out so I sat a 5 gallon bucket at the exhaust end of the Grizzly Sluice. After the whole bathtub of black sand hand been run I checked the 5 gallon bucket. Not one spec...I panned out the amount remaining in the riffle system that can be easily cleaned up and found 40 match head size pieces of gold. Needless to say, he bought a Grizzly Sluice III. The Grizzly sluice III can run up to a yard of material an hour without having to screen your material. Just remember to check the secondary screen for nuggets and precious stones that are too big to go down through the secondary screen and baffle system. Thank you for your comments Jeff. The Grizzly Sluice III can be set up in your back yard using a small water trough. A customer in Nevada goes out each day and brings back 10 buckets of material and runs it at home. He says he averaging 50.00 in gold per bucket. He'a retired and it is a great second income source for him.

@@jeffamb Guess what Jeff, average cost per box without retention material, stickers, and snap downs is 365.00 per box. We aren't making much after advertising costs and packaging. We should be selling the box for twice what it costs to manufacture it. Although you wouldn't think twice about paying 1,500.00 for a high banker that the forest service is shutting all streams down for using.

Reading some of the comments was funny. The people who say pouring a bit of water in there is too much work, certainly won't give us much competition in the field. If they even get out of the house that is... Pretty tyrannical laws for a state that was founded by miners. The Sierra club is a sham just wanted to steal the gold for themselves.

First thing look up Montana gold clubs. Look up NWMGP A gold panning club is the best way to get started. Then once you find that simple panning is a pain in the back....you will appreciate owning a Grizzly Sluice III. And you will be collecting 100 times the gold you would by simple panning. We have many people that like to customize their water circulation to meet their own needs. Many have created a PVC pipe sprayer until attached to the top hopper, others have just used a simple water-fountain recirculation pump and a tub to catch/recirc the water back into the top hopper

You can easily set up a large trough with a recirculating pump to run all your material after you bucket it up and bring it home. Don't throw away the larger rocks, they have a lot of gold that catches in the crags of the rock.

National Forest Service is disallowing all motorized and battery operated equipment. You can divert your water source with some 4" ABS or a 3/4: garden hose and a transmission funnel to draw in a good volume of water from the stream above you using an on/off valve to control your water flow.

Coulda had very small riffles and a punch plate..rather take bottom hopper screen off and put an apron under. Also miners moss. Its still really cool for that price it should have legs. A bigger and smaller version would be cool too

Next...buy a Grizzly Sluice III You can save just as much gold being new to prospecting as another guy can that's been at it for 25 years or more using this box. You don't need to!! The Grizzly Sluice III has a retention material made of 100 percent olifin. This material won't rip, tear or fray. It saves 10 times the amount of gold that a rubber mat does. They started using rubber mats in in stream sluice boxes a few years ago to help the owner of the in stream sluice box at least trap a little gold. Rubber mat was nothing but a sales gimmick for in stream sluice box manufacturers. I will put the Grizzly Sluice III and its collection material up against anything else on the market. I promise I will win hands down.

@rcmoot What Sapphires I have left are not for sale, but there are plenty of Sapphires around Virginia City and all the way up to Helena. Try White's Creek just outside Helena. I had a friend find a 10,000.00 corn flour blue Sapphire along White's Creek. Good Luck...Let me know how you do....

@fattestruss Yes....pretty darned easy Huh? run some water through the box to make sure the water is running evenly out the bottom of the box. Your set up time is approximately 60 seconds. Try that with an in stream sluice box!!

That's what we call prospecting.....You never know until you get out there and try it.....Right? What if that creek has been overlooked by everybody in the past because they thought it wasn't big enough, or deep enough, or they had to walk farther than twenty paces. The more effort.....the more gold.......

I own a grizzly 3 and I love it. The grizzly outperforms my old in stream sluice in fact I don't even want to think about all of the gold I have lost since I started prospecting. If there is even a small trace of gold in the area you will find it with the grizzly 3. The only problem is the time to go prospecting for the mother lode. 5 stars

Congrats on your product, but I think you'll get even more wet bucketing a bunch of water in there then you would setting up a sluice that sits in the river and runs off the current.

I don't have to wade out in freezing cold water, or spend 20 to 30 minutes setting up a perfect little stream to try and catch even a couple of pieces of gold on the little rubber mat. It takes me 60 seconds to set up. After I take the time to crevice original bedrock anywhere from 50 feet to 150 feet above the river or stream, I bucket back to my Grizzly sluice box and get 10 times the gold you get working in and around the stream banks. Also I've been bucketing water through my sluice box for over 30 years, and it hasn't killed me!! Also think about it? I can divert the water using 2- 5 foot lengths of 4" ABS ,and also use a 100 foot by 1" garden hose to bring water down from a creek or stream that I have found up a canyon where no one else has wanted to go because of the terrible distance from their motor home. Try to be a little more inventive. I have shown you one way to introduce water through the Grizzly Sluice III, Try your own applications, use your imagination,or not........

kinda re-inventing the wheel,,mount 1" half round end plates under bottom of sluice ( could be designed to slide into rabbited type slots,for easy removal),and you will have modern version of a rocker box...I think a little more washing is needed than just a bath from the bucket......A natural gravity flow/fed water system could easily be made up if you plan to stay awhile......could also design raised base corners ,using springs to get the same effect....less physical effort needed to wash the grizzly....all in all good looking box and design for a backcountry bank sluice....think I'm gonna have to get one....I have seen this some years ago,I think,but life moved me from the mountain,,,time to fix that!!...instead of bucket,use large ladle (or large mug),just like the old timers did....only have 2-hands...

Sounds like you might be able to pay for your college from your Grand Mother's creek. I believe you need a Grizzly Sluice III to maximize your production of gold and gems. Gems are sky rocketing in price, and the Grizzly Sluice III can save them. Using the Grizzly Sluice III for a day is equivalent to 500 pannings in a day's work.

Best sluice box in the world!!! No other sluice box in the world can save 99.9% of the flour gold that is run through it. No other sluice box can be set up next to a stream, beaver dam, lake, or very small creek and still do a great job at saving every tiny spec of gold from that special place you like to go. It can also be used in the desert to work dry washes that were ions ago flowing streams that deposited goodly amounts of gold. Just UTV in 10 gallons of water and two galvanized tubs and work that desert wash all day long!!

Thank....yes it is. It is the best testing tool for cross sections you will ever find, and you can run up to a yard an hour of raw material through it. No screening your dirt and spooning it through. This is a big boy's tool that will recover every spec of gold you dump into it. It has a water regulation baffle that keeps you from loosing any gold out the end. It's truly Goof Proof!!
