First heard this back in the sixties and realized that it pretty much summed up my feelings about differences among people. Just look for something good in another and you will find it. Everyone has likes, dislikes, hopes, dreams, principles and endearments. Let them speak in friendly confidence, and your net will be filled with treasures. And you will see that persons worth. This is a generality of course. There are bad people out there. But they are not confined to race, gender, religion, education, etc. A great old song, done well.

I just remember the when MLK was shot, and my older siblings running to take me out of school ...good vs bad, was in my thoughts ...yet! My sister was dating a very nice white guy named Michael ...Loved him! people used to stare at us as we walked cross intersections. Difference makers ...I love you Dorothy, and Micheal, where ever you are.

IMO this song calmed a lot of nerves and probably saved lives in that turbulent period following MLK's assassination. I recall everyone of all colors and backgrounds responding positively to this song and it gave us a feeling that we could make some changes. Obviously not enough has happened in decades since but Sly sure made a powerful statement with this anthem.

Awesome song reminds me of garbageman waitresses public servants and even the odd white-collar snake all smiling and going about their business on a sunny day.

One of the coolest things about this group is that they were multicultural. The band had guys and girls in it. Everyday people!

In 1975 I bought this album at a garage sale for 50 cents . Played the album all summer what a great band they were and I wish their message could resonate with the younger generations now.

I haven't heard this in years. I got misty after listening to this and hearing a simple message from a simple arrangement was quite satisfying. Anyone who can't embrace such beauty has not any taste. Different strokes for different folks and so on and so on has depths all should know..

My teacher took this song to the classroom and I loved it, I never get tired of listening to it.

I’ve loved this song since it was released. It was a fun and beautiful song then as it is now. Sly was so freaking far ahead of his time. Funk, soul, rock , psychedelic, blues- all wrapped up in one amazing package. Pre Prince , Rick James, etc. My main question is : why would ANYONE put a thumbs down on this wonderful song?

Wow, discovered this song yesterday. Quite simple and yet so powerful... Even if nowadays in 2015 there's not a lot of hope about the future, just a single second of this song fills me with a deep and powerful feeling of love for everything and everyone. Sly sure knew how to do good music

Boy we could sure use this song in America again today. We are bitterly divided in this nation by race, religion, socio-economic status, age groups, political affiliation, sexual orientation and pretty much everything else in the book. Probably even much worse than it was in the 60s. Even having the first black President has done nothing to bridge this divide.
