Small Bale Hay - Baling with New Holland and Case 956XL

Very nice bit of old-fashioned activity here with things going on just the way I remember from my teens. Only the tractors have changed - a more modern and very nice Case on the baler and New Holland on the trailer. The baler must be pretty ancient but was going strong - a few dodgy knots but that's normal.
I didn't ask, but these bales probably go for selling to the horse fraternity, at fancy prices! Lifting manually? It's good for you!

It's a useful skill to learn. I use to do it every harvest and haymaking for 5 years. Eventually I learned to use a pitchfork, with which you can toss it higher.

brilliant vid Alan a very rare farming scene nowdays, brings back memories when i was a kid, when we use to go around farms and help on the hay and drinking homemade ginger beer afterwards.. Use to love the 956's great tractor and love the sound of them brilliant :)

nothing wrong with the old way that's what I grew up with. They better fix the baler missing too many knots LOL. When I was a kid I used to ride on the left twine box and tie the knots that it missed. You just don't forget those things!

Yes, very nice. Used to have similar on a loader bucket hen in Scotland. Never found out precisely, as the tin work was shot, but it the model known as the "Stockman Special"

those stacker don't look overly engaged, we have one man on the trailer stacking 8 bales at a time with more constantly being thrown at him with me driving to the stacks

for one day a year I stack straw like this...high! You get a nack after a while for how to stack the bales correctly for the optimum stability. Good old ways

If you ever get a look at any of the non doncaster built case's 8 9 or 1056xls or the 844xl you'll manifold side of the exhaust is a lot bigger than the exhaust exit hole at the top (the reeky end! ) that and the big long exhaust body gives it that "I'll pull a house down " whistle
