That’s what you’re supposed to do. Upon retreating enemies you must advance onto their location to prevent regrouping. Also while on evasive maneuvers, the gun needs to stop firing since it is a sudden and rapid changes to direction. Realistically the RT would radio to supporting fire that they are advancing on enemy positions, adjust fire accordingly.
@@Unchainedful That's how it was done in the episode. they court martialed the pilot for not making sure his new door gunners stop shooting per SOP while taking evasive maneuvers. that was just how they put it while grounding him.
I wish for ONCE they'd show an actual Cobra gunship assault! I've never seen it in any Vietnam movie or TV show up to this point. One of my dad's best friends was a Cobra pilot in Vietnam from April-3July1970, when he died in a midair collision with another Cobra out of Camp Eagle, Phu Bai, Tua Thien Provence, Hue City, South Vietnam, while on a midnight gun-run for the 101st ABN. I know it's petty, and it's personal, thus a bit selfish, but for the memories of 1LT. Gary Preston Tomlinson,CVV2 Robert S. "Scottie" Schettig, CAPT's: Terry Rex Bergfield and Terry Jack Martell.
I served as an FO in Vietnam, 1970-71. I NEVER saw a Huey with only their crew served M60s make “gun runs!” I did see brave Huey crews stand off and fire on NVA. They would maneuver so both M60s would engage and then reload.
Other than you all taking this fine show but very... "cowboys vs Indians" combat scenes wise , way too seriously, the plot of this episode was the pilot being charged for his "fresh" gunner shooting during his evasive maneuvers. stating protocol demands he should not shoot, and him being the officer and the one moving the huey caused the green on green and the pilot was grounded as part of the punishment. So in addition you all went in the wrong direction, the TV show plot didn't blame the ground force or door gunner. just pilot. Mike is way wrong on the budget too this show got 4 Hueys and 2 F4 to shoot footage while flying which is very respectful for a network TV show. ofc all shots of actors in hueys were shot on ground.
