I can only imagine how many tears were soaked when this cameo happened. I don't care what decade I was born in, I'm glad to have a Superman like Christopher Reeve.
@@Unqualifiedmedicalperson My biggest dissapointment is that they made a big announcement out of it. Imagine if they hadn't promoted it at all. That would have been the biggest surprise.
destinyawaitsx3 Tom Welling did a Comic Con panel where he described working with Christopher Reeve as an out of body experience. I get what he means. For him and everyone else who will ever play Superman, the character is too iconic for one person to truly embody. Tom and the later actors, even great ones, can only be "this version of Superman", at best. But Christopher Reeve IS Superman. It must be like playing superheroes as a kid, and then the character you "are" appears right in front of you.
@@anjhontongo6945 Well, "Batman" is "Batman" and "Superman" is "Superman" REGARDLESS of who played them in the many decades of the two comic book characters' existence on both television and films anyway.
@@anjhontongo6945The "real" Batman never quit to practice house archery for a year because his girlfriend died. The "real" Batman did Batman stuff more than half a dozen times.
He had such a phenomenal sense of humor. I don’t think I could’ve managed in his situation but he stuck through it admirably and proved to be a true Superman.
@@Legionbass19 you gotta credit Chris's good friend and former Juilliard buddy Robin Williams; he helped Chris tremendously after his accident. Robin was the first person who was able to make Chris laugh, and he realized that if he could laugh at something, he would be okay. That really boosted his spirits, and I am forever grateful to Robin for being there for Chris in his darkest hour. Robin also covered Chris's medical bills for him so he and Dana wouldn't have to worry about that on top of everything else they were dealing with. That too was so awesome of him to do.
I may not have grown up with the Christopher Reeve Superman movies. I actually grew up with Justice League/Justice League Unlimited Superman. As much as I LOVE George Newbern's time. Chris Reeve will ALWAYS be Superman.
Chris Reeve isn't just the greatest Superman ever (and I loved Cavill). He's the greatest lead in a comic book movie ever! No-ones ever fit and nailed a role as perfectly as he has in these types of films.
Let's get back on Christopher Reeve. Like everyone has their favourite Bond....everybody will have a favourite Superman. Christopher set the foundation and actually gave Clark his 'persona'. If it wasn't for Christopher, I hate to think what Clark would be like. He wasn't just a Great Superman....he was an Amazing Clark that no other (great) Superman actor has quite managed to incorporate. Any 'Muscle' can play Superman but it takes a truly talented actor to play Clark.
Its so hard to watch Superman without crying especially in the end when Christopher Reeve smiles in the camera and fly away. CHRISTOPHER REEVE will always be the man of steel ❤
Had Christopher Reeve not suffered that terrible injury, it would have been great to see him play Jor-El in Smallville. You hear the words magical, mythic in this video when the producer's speak of Reeve. This is so true. He had an 'other worldly' aura about him which made you totally buy into the character. His casting was probably the most appropriate and inspired in cinema history. Kudos to Richard Donner sticking to his guns & demanding an unknown.
He really was the classic Superman--Gold, Silver and Bronze Age. A realistic, slightly more vulnerable and prone to anger bronze age Superman certainly mixes with his 'performing' as the gentlemanly Silver age character--but there are a number of scenes where he breaks social rules, and is generally an Alpha-m dick...it's right out of the pages from 1938-43. It was only Chris's talent performing that kept you from noticing the character's shifting around too much :) -And when he lost his physicality, he managed to channel the Superman character subtly into his way of living and of communicating, to become a phenomenally successful activist--one more version of Superman, in a way. We're unlikely to see his like on earth again.
I felt the same way when I heard about his passing on the car radio on my way to school. The moment I got inside the building, I just broke down and started sobbing.
With his drive and determination, I really believe that had he been granted just a few more years, he would have walked again. Christopher Reeve was, is, and always will be a superman.
You can also tell that Christopher Reeves feels that Tom Welling is the only one that's fit to take the Superman torch. All the other so-called supermen all the way to 2014 to me don't come close. It should have been Tom Welling playing the role in Man of Steel.
I agree with you 100%. Hollywood is usually clueless about how fans feel, and that is why Man of Steel was so joyless and forgettable, but watch the helicopter rescue scene in 1978 Superman and you get chills all over again. Anyway, its nice to know that others feel the same way. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
William Carmel Then you should like my TOP 10 BEST SUPERMAN of ALLTIME VIDEO I just made yesterday. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SrAkLspF6gE.html BTW Happy Thanksgiving to you also! :) I still taking out the kinks
My parents took me to see SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE when it first came out in 1978, and I was a 6 year old boy who had just began reading Superman comics (Superman is my father's favorite superhero). When I first saw Christopher Reeve change into the suit and fly out of the Fortress of Solitude...there are no words to describe that feeling. It inspired my love if comic book superheroes and it also inspired me to become a writer. To that 6 year old boy, Christopher Reeve wasn't some actor who played Superman, he WAS Superman and now, exactly 40 years later, after watching Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill don that red "S", I still say that Christopher Reeve, who left us in 2004, will ALWAYS be MY Superman.
I love what Tom said because Christopher Reeve was the same. Didn't know much about Superman until he put on the suit. Seems this role just engulfs you. I love it.
Oh God I always cry when I see him in the wheelchair. He was a definition of boldness and courage. And you know what... he still is. Fly on Superman...
The amazing thing about Christopher Reeve is how he embodied hope. Because really, Superman has always done that and when you see his Superman, he did it the best of them. He embodied Hope, Joy and truth. And while that's amazing, it's his determination after the accident and persistence to keep being happy, and giving his all rather than giving up that inspires even more hope than being Superman. First, he convinced us a God could still be a Kind man. Then, he showed us how a Broken man could do the same. You could break his body, but the soul and spirit was untouchable. Rest well Christopher, still inspiring others today
That scene would have been amazing regardless simply due to Reeve's presence, but the use of the John Williams music just hit a nerve so deep that it was instantly a classic. I grew up on Reeve's Superman, and to this day he's never been bettered. Don't get me wrong, the different interpretations have been good, but no one solidified and defined Superman in a live action setting like Reeve did.
The moment when I heard Krypton theme , I got all the shivers in the world. Those notes encapsulated the entire Superman feeling. I'm so glad that Smallville gave us the 2 Supermen! All the love to Christopher Reeve and John Williams!
Christopher Reeve was a blessing to this world, not just to Superman. That man was amazing. He may have been paralyzed, but he still kept high spirits and never lost his personality, humor, the man still smiled. The man was and is Superman. God bless you Mr. Reeve. You're with God and resting in Heaven. 🙏
When "Superman" came out, in 1977, I went with my best friend and his family to see it on the biggest screen we could at the time. We were seven. When Christopher Reeve first appeared in the Superman outfit, and flew, our jaws dropped. It was like everything we saw in the comics had just became reality. Chris really did make us believe a man could fly back then. God bless him.
I've noticed that only Henry Cavill and Christopher Reeve are the only Supermen to actually give, support and create helpful foundations. While I like all Supermen I think that says a lot. That's why their my favorites :D.
This makes me sad. Sadder enough, I'm in the new generation who did not have the chance to know him well in our childhood, my first Superman encounter is Smallville and Superman Returns. Well, I hope more of the younger generations know about this man, he was Superman, and always is, in our hearts.
this guy had hollywood at his fingertips he had such a long long career ahead of him he was such a humble man too so down to earth r.i.p. christopher reeve !
Oh man... Some say Chris Reeve was Superman before his accident. I like to beliieve that because of his accident, he became Superman. I cried my eyes out when he passed. Such a valuable, beautiful, outstanding human being... Rest in peace, Chris, thank oyu for being you. and I reccoment everyone to read his book, "Still Me". I leaf through it whenever I feel like I wanna throw the towel in and I'm instantly shamed by it, makes me realize what a blessed person I am.
"He IS Superman." Yup. That about sums it up. I actually cried when I saw this episode of Smallville. I don't think there will be another that can bring Superman to life the way he did. At least not in my lifetime.
" not a handicap, but a handi-able, that you can actually rise above any adversity" what a beautiful and stunningly accurate description of Christopher Reeve and Superman, both have risen to every challenge that has been placed before them. God bless Christopher Reeve, the man who proved that life is worth living, even in horrible situations, there is light and hope in every life. God bless Christopher Reeve!
Ditto the same to you pal but sadly he passed away on Sunday October 10th, 2004 14 years back we'll miss him forever and hopefully we'll see what we'll see soon enough hopefully and him again in heaven where my father is now hopefully do me a favor spend as much time with your dad before he kicks the bucket aka dies like my dad died suddenly from cjd aka creutzfeld jacobs disease at 69 and Margot Kidder died at 69 recently on Mother's Day I recently heard online that all4 Superman films were a huge failure you know but the 12 years back Superman 5-Superman Returns (2006) became a interesting instant huge hit blockbuster by Brandon Routh who's my current age 38 peace, love, understanding, respect, and above all Gods blessings to you buddy.
I love the Smallville show and it was a huge part of my teenage years. I related to him because he didn't know who he was or what he would/should be yet. Even though I did not grow up during Christopher Reeve's time, I can easily see and respect what an impact he had on people too. I respect both these guys. Now I am watching Arrow and The Flash, lol.
The Usual Spot I have been watching the Flash! I also watch Gotham, which has been pretty good as well. Is Arrow good? I remember watching the first episode of it and thought it was boring years ago. I think I didn't like it because I was still attached to Smallville's Green Arrow. But how is it?
destinyawaitsx3 Arrow is very realistic and grounded. It's best moments are martial art style fight scenes and covert mission type things or the occasional plot twist. I would definitely recommend the first two seasons, as those were very suspenseful and difficult to predict the outcome. Everything built up suspense until the end where your waiting pays off. However, after that story arc ended, around season 3, it becomes more of a drama and I personally do not find interest in many of the supporting characters. They are a bit too bland to base the plot on. So yes it gets a bit boring. The show doesn't have much of the supernatural or fantasy nature like Smallville or Flash, so that is the part that will divide who wants to watch it and who doesn't. However, you may like it more than I do. I find "Daredevil" on Netflix to pull off the "cool, dark themed, realistic, skilled hero" thing better.
The best part about RU-vid adding a feature that shows the most replayed part of the video is that I can see how many people go back to watch Christopher and Tom laugh with each other.
I can't speak of Christopher Reeve without getting tears in my eyes..I was 11 when the 1st Superman film was released ...so, he is MY superman...always will be..m.
Christopher Reeve the person has a special ability of courage and inspiration. Isn't this one of the most important special abilities? I have recently bought the entire Smallville series in a boxed set and was truly delighted to see his involvement in the series. "Fell out of my chair" is an understatement... mine was a standing ovation to a truly inspirational person. Thank you to the person who uploaded this footage, it has been wonderful to watch!! I hope that soon a cure for spinal damage will be found to increase the amount of hope available to people impacted by spinal injury. Christopher Reeve's contribution to this will be immense. Have thoroughly enjoyed the Smallville portrayal.
Wasnt it great... back in 1978 when the newly developed "Industrial Light & Magic" ( I.L.M. ) Lucas film's out of this world level of special effects caused such a sensation when Christopher Reeve FIRST FLEW in that movie ? He simply floated off the crystal ice shelf in his fortress of solitude with one gentle leap into the air, cape waving at the audience... People stood up as we ALL cheered and clapped ! We truly DID believe a man could fly ! As a 13 year old boy... I had tears welling up in ny eyes. Thank you Christopher Reeve. Thank you.
RIP and long live the greatest Superman actor of all time. Christopher Reeve (September 25, 1952 - October 10, 2004), aged 52 You will always be remembered as a legend.
Kirk Alyn - Grand daddy of all Superman George Reeves - Paternal Superman Christopher Reeve - the best and definitive Superman Brandon Routh - gentle Superman Tom Welling - youthful Superman Henry Cavill - serious Superman Tyler Hoechlin - vibrant Superman
I love Christopher Reeve! He has that funny wit about him, especially with the please call bit at the end. He really was a superman and brought people joy and hope. RIP the true "Super Man" ♥
Christopher Reeve remains a hero and an inspiration to me. He never gave up hope, and never stopped fighting for what he believed was possible. The world could use more people like Christopher Reeve. He embodied the spirit of Superman, and lived life with confidence, courage, and hope. He was not just a great man, but a Superman. And that is what he forever shall be to me. Rest in peace.
Muched loved sadly missed Christopher Reeve RIP thankfully to the cast and crew bringing Christopher back (way back at the end of S2 of Smallville, and recently having Tom back as Clarck in Crisis on Earth
@1:13 whoever did that transition of the comicbook photo to Christopher Reeve's face deserved a raise ! In that transition from the Cartoon to the real actor...you see **THE EXACT SAME FACE** I mean, that's just legendary ! I don't think there has ever been an actor that so perfectly embodied a character. Christopher Reeve simply IS superman. Period.
I promise you Christopher Reeve that I will dedicate my book to you. Having you as one of my favorite actors gave me the best years of my life away from a messed-up world. You are the one and only true Superman and when we look up to the sky we shall see you and Shout Out up in the sky it's a bird it's a plane it's Superman.
Christopher Reeve was and will be the greatest Superman ever, I have seen the recent Superman movie and they are great but I miss the special magic the Reeve's Superman had. Maybe this generation is just not into that.
Reeve was so good so good. The best ever to play a super hero. Despite the limitations of technology at that time (costumes, FX etc). His face, presence, physicality, humor, romantic side, vulnerable side, etc were all superb.
I got the chance to ask Reeve a question a week before he died. I will never forget the exchange: *A star-struck and fumbling me: When you regain your ability to walk, what’s the first thing you will do? *Reeve: Well, I hope I don’t fall down. But if I do, I’m gonna get right back up. No other modern comic book movie would exist without Reeve’s Superman. He is still the best. Every current and future actor will do well, but nobody will ever encompass what Superman is better than Christopher Reeve.
Personally, I am forever astounded at the legacy of the late Christopher Reeve and I hope that it continues through his paralysis foundation because it is so important for those who had to go through in life as he did in the most difficult of circumstances. I also felt sad when I saw Mr. Reeve having given his impressive performance on "Smallville" years ago as "Dr. Virgil Swann" and it was a nice way of keeping the "Superman" legacy alive as well.
Chris Reeve will always be the quintessential Superman, but Welling and Smallville deserve some credit for what they tried to do, specially in the earlier seasons. And... the casting of Welling and Rosenbaum was absolutely spot on.
Oprah said it best, Christopher Reeve played Superman, but when you read his book Your Still Me, it's clear that you truly are a Superman. I met Chris as I new Robin Williams well, and he truly had that something special. He never gave up and fought to make a difference in the world, and that to me is a true Superman
I would give up all my possessions and ultimately my life it it meant we could get Christopher Reeve back. He was such a force for good in this world, we need more people like him. More than just a man in a Superman costume, more than just an actor, he really was a super man. I miss him.
From what I remember it was Christopher Reeve, some say Brandon Routh was his lookalike in the remake before Man of Steel film portrayed by Henry Cavill as Superman.. but in TV, Tom Welling will always be Superman, he should reprise his role now that Tom is older.. make a cameo on Arrow. That would be awesome.
Dana said the same thing, that there was a very strong physical resemblance between Brandon and Chris. They say everyone has a doppelganger somewhere in the world, and Brandon Routh was certainly Chris Reeve's doppelganger.
Tom did an excellent job as the bumbling, clumsy and awkward Clark Kent whenever he went into the city in Season 10. I seriously saw Christopher Reeve whenever he did that.
Enormous talent of Chris Reeve : actor (cinema and theatre), artistic director, writer, director of the Christopher Reeve Foundation. Attentive father of his 3 children. He wasnt only for 4-times the performer of Superman but he wonderfully played a lot of characters simultaneously in cinema and tv movies his repertoir filmographic was very impressive. In fact : handsome actor, talented, charismatic, sensitive, courageous, modest with a good sense of humour!
