Do not turn the vacuum off immediately. If you use 2 vacuums turn one off and cool the part with compressed air or with a water sprayer. I went to the struggle you went through building panels for my off-roader , so I feel you , fast cooling of the part is the way to go for perfect molds. Good luck!!!

Have you thought of a way to heat the plastic from the top and then just drop the frame down straight onto the form? Seems like the transfer of plastic takes too long, the temperature is too cold and or your system us not strong enough to fully vaccum form the larger parts.
@VinyB57
@VinyB57 Год назад
frankly I completely give up on this machine, I did found ways to get better results...but none the less, I prefered go with carbon fiber, which I will start next spring. And bwt, the vaccum was more then ennough when the plastic temp was just right, I even had to use only 1 shopvac instead of the 3

I know they use thin Acrylic sheets to vacuum form hot-tubs, baths and shower trays and shower cubicles but they they add strength/rigidity with CSM (fibreglass). I would love to vacuum form some vehicle parts but I think i'm going to be building them fibreglass parts. If I could master vacuum forming I could mass produce the part much faster. When they mass produce larger vacuum form parts they never move the frame holding the acrylic. They heat the acrylic while it sits above the plug/form. Then they either raise form or lower the acrylic down over form/plug. As soon as you remove the plastic sheet from the heat it starts to cool. P.s I am routing for your completed parts to come out nice.

Thanks Andrew!
@Adscam

Andrew is correct. I think the whole machine needs to be integrated and provided with more control. The heater needs to be at the top using Nickel/Chromium resistance heating wire. It heats the ABS mostly by radiant heat. Temperature control is easy using voltage supply. Once the ABS softens and drops over form/plug you start the vacuum from below using a vacuum pump with a pressure regulator. Everything can be controlled, heat, drop and vacuum. Good luck.

Sometimes then I saw your doing the molding, I think you loosing some of the heat- to fast in the Cannadian winter... mabye have a railling system type...Mabye a bad idea, just thinking.... good to see you, I would like to see you every week! Good luck!

I though about the railling system, not much for the heat, but just because I have to DRAG my son in the shop to give me an hand! kinda a paine 🤷‍♂️ And no, I never give up, I can't! otherwise none of that RU-vid thing wouldn't happen in first place! Or I'm stupid..maybe a bit of both! 😅

@Tarry_Plaguer

11:00 I was wondering, can you put some sort of metal mesh screen under the ABS to keep it from drooping down? I understand that it might leave a grid pattern on the inside of the plastic mold, but that shouldn't matter should it? Just a thought. Seems easier than your hot air recycle system. I don't know how pliable the plastic is when that hot and if it would stick to the mesh, and that is why you didn't try it, but it is the first solution I thought of when I saw your drooping ABS theory.
@Rovinman

Why not heat from the top and vacuum from the bottom, with the mould in the middle, raisable into the sheet ?

I see 2 mistakes: 1. You are a bit too slow transfering the piece and starting the vacuum 2. You need to leave the vacuum on until the piece is cold. Otherwise I enjoyed your vid as first time viewer!
