@@Gotmilk0112 You're correct, but I also don't give a damn because people will understand the meaning regardless. So, to spite you, I will leave it as is. "Je ne regrette rien, merci beaucoup".
My theory is that he was waiting for last few seconds to get a hit in and win that way out of desperation. He camps to win but if he feels confident that he will win without camping, he is aggressive. I hate Sonic the character but I no longer hate watching all Sonic players now
@@PLAY-oe1nn As a sonic main I do understand how he sometimes camps, he try’s to bait people out like other characters like Samus and fox or maybe Pikachu but when he feels confident he can do some crazy stuff, watching his playstyle and reflecting on myself, I don’t really camp with Sonic and try to aggressive but there are so many oppressive characters, take link for example, with projectiles that can really screw up a sonic main. So if he camps a bit because he doesn’t wanna rush in for a bit than I understand. Other characters mains do it too, yeah I hate camping but targeting it on a specific person is kind hypocritical.
9:48 Running theory is that Miya expected Sparg0 to charge limit and limit climhazzard to recover, and wanted to punish it with a dair that was probably untechable at that percent. However Sparg0 didn't charge limit and instead baited out the dair that would've covered the up b to kill miya at 0 and prevent a potential comeback.
I love these tournament recaps where you tell a story. It's nice to have sources of mostly statistics and montages of tournaments but I like the story lines more than anything else at this point and you do it so well. The only thing missing was a half second image of EE holding Ken's arm in the air at the very end of the video
What's wild to me isn't just that the games are longer. Anyone watching them could tell you that. It's that not even Gluttony, a player who's pretty good at being patient, being willing to wall opponents out with back airs, short-hop in place, hide behind bike, and sometimes stall for Waft, is playing longer games than players like Sonix and Acola. It really does feel like a generational shift.
Minor critique, but you said that ApolloKage reset the bracket to win over Zomba, when he actually won over Zomba in Winners, Zomba reset losers dominantly, and ApolloKage got the win after that. Great video though! Thanks for the excellent summary
The problem with the game is that the worst thing you can do is approach. Camping is meta. I don't play competitive but ever since I stopped playing aggressively (Having fun) and started neutral B camping with Joker/Cloud (My mains) my win percent has nearly doubled. Anything that forces an opponent to approach you is ridiculously overpowered and makes for boring gameplay.
Honestly would love another recap of this event's earlier stages. While the top 4 was probably one of the most important thing that happened, major stories were being played out throughout the weekend for many of the players that got only mentioned a couple of times here. Top 4 is looking pretty locked in at this point, but the top 20 is an every changing frenzy right now and it'd be great to get some coverage of that.
Even though I ditched ultimate a long time ago for melee. I still dont understand why ultimate players havent just outright banned steve. The game has like 85 characters. Steve is actively losing players for the game and losing viewers of tournaments thus losing the broadcasters money. With Smash 4 beyo they had ultimate to look forward too, so there was this "just deal with it until ultimate comes out" feel to it but there is no ultimate 2 coming. Its better to ban the character now and get it over with than wait. IDK I dont play the game anymore I dont really care but I do find it weird. I dont even really watch the game anymore. I will tune in every now and then and if its a steve match I just kinda dip. If its a steve ditto (which seems to be more often the case) I can't click escape fast enough. I kinda do the same if its sonic but at least with that I might come back later.
Exactly. I've come to love watching Sonix because sure, he's known for camping, stalling and being all around annoying to play against, but he doesn't hold a candle to how much pain I get from watching Steve build his walls and camp for the whole game. The things Sonix does to those Steve's make me forgive him for everything he's ever done
It's ironic that Sonic of all characters whose franchise is all about speed encourages a slow playstyle in smash. Also you can change characters on a win? That's not how the majority of fighting games work. But anyways nice video i love stories like this one.
Smash Ultimate is literally the exact example of why all fighting games HAVE to have live maintenance for very lengthy periods of time. This game is literally still in beta at this point
Will you be making a video covering the result of the Cody vs. Zain match for Rank 1? It's pretty big but I haven't seen anyone talk about it that much.
Kinda cool that it now feels like that we have gone from the God Leo era to a 4 gods era of Ultimate, which gives a nice comparative parallel to Melee's era of 5 gods Great narration, dope video!
It's a shame what happened to this game, it used to feel so fresh and now every top match is just a stall fest. Can't really blame the players when the game made it the optimal playstyle, but damn is it boring to watch. Luckily there are channels like these to give cliffnotes on an otherwise snorefest
I just wanna see Leo on top again, joker and byleth were a lot more fun to watch than Steve and Sonic. Props to Spargo for holding it down with the Cloud, a character with actual entertainment value.
Guys like Sonix and his boring, campy style will help ensure the scene never grows. The vast majority of spectators don’t want to watch him run away for a 45 minute set.
Wait wait wait...people were ranting about Steve again after this tournament bc 'omg wallz' or whatever, but Acola was out at 4th and the grand finalists literally had to be told to play the game after a full minute of actually doing nothing? This community has issues.
The reasoning behind it was that while he got knocked out, his matches against the players he beat were insanely slow, boring and the character straight up dominates certain matchups so badly that a lot of players who one trick characters had to switch to a secondary to even have a chance of winning. Perfect example is Tweek. Tweek has a Sephiroth secondary specifically because Diddy Vs Steve is unwinnable for Diddy, and if you need any proof of that, look no further than his game 3 Vs Acola. Plus, Miya and Dabuz's previous run-in had Miya lose to Dabuz as GnW. So what does he do? He swaps to Steve to counter Dabuz's mains and win his set. The reason people Acola lost wasn't because Steve isn't bullshit. Steve is still bullshit, but not every character in the game loses to Steve like Diddy does. Sonic and Cloud are both good (or at least even) into Steve, which means that Acola no longer can rely on Steve alone to win the matchup, and because of Spargo and Sonix's experience, knowledge of the matchup and slightly higher skill level, they both won against acola. Acola isn't the problem here, he's just one of the few who can use Steve in the way that makes people hate him. The walls. The constant mining. The camping. Unless you play someone who can consistently put pressure on Steve to force him to stop camping, you don't win the matchup. He's one of the only characters that has unplayable matchups against a huge number of characters as opposed to just the standard "hard wins against ganon and little Mac" that most top tiers do. Steve literally has unlosable matchups against other top tiers and that was shown firsthand at Watch The Throne. Point is, Steve sucks even though Acola didn't win.
please... for the love of god... make more content like this. you could talk about how a random elite smahs ganon might save smash ultimate idc. content like this is what we need
@@playharderscrubi mean Ken literally got 5th at this event beating Leo and Light And he got in because even though Sonix won Port he still got 4th there beating Sparg0 There’s definitely more than one Sonic
@@playharderscrub2 sonics, and lots of steve secondaries. But your point stands as there’s really only one player for each character truly being dominant.
In the past i didnt really like cloud, but compared to the cancer that Steve, Sonic and G&W are, its really nice and enjoable to watch. Situations like the last games of the sets tweek-acola and sparg0-sonix (gf) with big periods of time in which nether player wants to play just show that the current meta is really not enjoable. Not for the viewer nor for the player... But sure, just keep the game exactly as it is, cause change is always bad right?...
@@turndownforwalt Sorry for the late reply. The title implies that Smash Ultimate is somehow in danger and that there is something that could potentially save it. However, it’s never stated that, or how, Ultimate is in danger, nor is it stated what or how it could be potentially saved. Perhaps I’m missing it, but all I’ve gathered is that there’s characters that encourage degenerate play styles and that aren’t fun to play against, and someone won a tournament without using them.
Don't understand the title of this video - is the hero Spargo or the tournament itself? And what is he the hero of? He beat a stall player with a disadvantage character? Am I being stupid here or something? I watched the whole thing.
I’m not here to shit on any top players, they earned their spot at the top; however Sonix really is incredibly underwhelming to watch as a character and frustrating to watch as a player. Little to no reaction, negative emotional responses to most games (regardless of outcome) and going for time out strategies all contribute to making them an unlikable op for viewers. Just no hype to be seen unfortunately. Still 3 stocks me on a good day tho
@@playharderscrub eh maybe its cause i play pika who’s kinda shit on him since smash 4. I actually prefer fighting smash 4 cloud over ult cloud because of directional air dodge + up-b ledge snapping + fair being safer on shield + limit charging faster are annoying but the only reason i dont think he’s top 5 is because Steve aegis sonic joker and pika/fox being better than him so he’s probably around 6-8, its just easier to say top 10 than top 8.
Spargo is incredible, but it's worth noting that many of clouds better matchups are the characters he's fighting at the top. If you look at cloud as a whole he's probably a bit weaker, but Spargo makes up for that by better playering almost everyone who would want to take advantage of that.
@@curiosityunbound5460 Exactly, like he can have some random scary matchups like DK lol, Sheik (even though she’s top tier in my opinion), and hell even falcon can give him a hard time with his speed, but at the top of the top he does good against meta characters like Steve, G&W and others.
7:52 hate when people use this clip to be all like oh feel bad for tweek for fighting steve but in reality he was pissed off at production for the zoom in
He was the uncontested number one for arguably up until 2022, and then i don't really know what happened to him and i don't want to speak on his behalf so i can't tell for sure how he feels about all that, but other players quickly rose up to his level and at the same time it also feels like he isn't taking it as seriously as before, he changes characters a lot because i guess he kinda wants to take it a little lightly
He has talked about playing Smash Ultimate far less in 2023. He now has a partner and focuses more on spending time with his family and making content.
@@TheMTalMilitiahe switched to Byleth, who is a significantly worse character than Joker. I think playing whatever character you enjoy is how you should play the game, but if MKLeo wanted to keep his spot, he should’ve kept dominating with Joker. Nothing against the guy, I respect him for playing someone else he enjoys
@ajuicejemas That's not even what he does. Besides Sparg0 was camping here too. If you actually watch the start of that game Sonix started running in and then saw Sparg0 platform camping so he returned to his starting position and camped back.
I love the thumbnail. Seems like Cloud is The Chosen One here, as he was actually able to take on the three tyrannical gods of this game. Ah, Cloud~♥︎ (*´∇`*) He’s so fascinating. He makes for such a good playmate. He never ceases to surprise me. To amuse me. Yes! Chosen One! Chosen One! He’s the Chosen One indeed! (((o(*゚▽゚*)o)))♡ Tee Hee Hee! My hero~
I dont the hype around Cloud. Yeah Sonic and Steve are pretty lame to watch, but Cloud's gameplan is run away, charge limit, spam back air at ledge and rack up easy damage with side b. how hype is he *really*?
I think the story itself is interesting, but I think competitive Smash is super boring. I like watching Melee, but I don't even think I could get through any Ultimate matches
Joker just needs an outright ban. No counterplay to him. Ive done 104 elite smash games and just last night lost my 1st one after 2 SD's. Broken af char
I could feel this type of playstyle coming the moment COVID hit. This game’s neutral sadly rewards slow and careful intention. It’s disgusting. Thank god I switched to melee
@@trailertrash2147 Mid tier was a bit of an exaggeration but he's heavy overrated imo. """Official""" tier list puts him top 5 somehow (look at cloud, pika, & g&w placements and don't even get me started on the dlcs). The level of execution Fox requires for light to have his placements is asinine. Imagine if a skilled player like him went to any other the top tiers in the top 10. No doubt in my mind that if he swapped to (or had put his previously allotted time into) joker, aegis, even pika, etc (fast characters who require/benefit from precise-execution) he'd be a contested #1 (he's consistently held top 5). Fox even top 10 is a bit much imo. Probably top 15-20. Don't even get me started on the fact Fox, and other than the one Japanese(?) up&comer, only has light to rep him.
I miss the times when Leo was at the top, his Joker was much more fun to watch than Sonic, Steve or Pyra/Mythra. These characters are the reason why I stopped watching competitive Ultimate.
Copy pasting from my Twitter but Have said for like 2 years that one of the biggest problems with Ultimate isn’t that it “has no stories” but instead that no light was being properly shined onto those stories These vids feel as if they’re beginning to fill that gap. Ty for that.
so they’re calling them the Horsemen now? dude old school melee players are bound to come after that name LOOOOL at least they suck imma beat all their asses eventually
