They make some great stuff and there's a lot of potential, but there's still that vibe of awkwardness I'm feeling, from trying to create something "unnatural". I'm gonna keep watching though

@@postboy2242 Ultimate’s online play is really laggy and slow and is generally very different from offline, so the question is asking if online tournament results are a genuine reflection of how good someone is.

Robin is POOR POOR man's Steve, resource management character who lacks speed bc if he was faster he'd kick some ASSES BRO. Robin can't create floor or walls or get his Levin Sword back on command by "searching on the convoy" (mining for Steve) but in essence they are similar. But Robin is just bad bro

The moveset is incredibly off putting, the mechanic is much worse in Ultimate because of that meter that practically tells people what you have in hand with your magic, and me personally, I hate their idles. As someone who played Awakening, Robin feels nothing like they are in the game combat wise. Take the sword and books out their hands. It makes them look like a loser who walked out of bed and got lost rather than a Frontline soldier and army tactician. 2. Their extreme lack of charisma: Every character is defined by their first impressions and primary appearance, and IMO, Robin has the worst in the game. It's like it's bland on purpose. Granted, Robin is a bland character in Awakening's campaign mode, it's the witty back and forwards in their supports that made them shine and well loved in the FE community, which this doesn't show in Smash at all. What's crazier is that even though the female is okay, the male is boring despite being played by the same guy responsible for Motherf***ing Gilgamesh from Fate, Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez from Bleach (who was considered one of the coolest Big 3 villains), Senketsu from Kill La Kill, and Richter Belmont, all insanely charismatic characters which Robin is not for some reason. Voice Acting and directions matters because before Yu Narukami from Persona 4 had his voice, people mostly had contempt for him, but after Johnny Yong Bosch took over, there's nothing but praise for him to the point he rivals Joker. I can't say throw them out of the game though. I checked tons of popularity polls, including the mobile game and both Robins, male and female, do exceptionally well, which is important because normally only one of the genders carries the other. Robin is definitely popular enough to warrant another chance and get a rework like Ness, Game & Watch, and Bowser got.

Any sword character that isn’t in FE is unique. Cloud? Very unique, Sephiroth? Very unique, Meta knight? Very unique etc

I'm struggling to put this into words, but I feel like a big part of the issue is that most sword characters have at least one move that kind of "overlaps" with another sword character. Like Marth and Aegis both swing their sword below them for their down air. Also half of them literally have a down b that's a counter 💀I don't care if one sends up while another one freezes the opponent in time for a second, they all essentially do the same thing which is punishing the opponent for trying to attack you. It also doesn't help that sword characters tend to be a better on average compared to most other archetypes, meaning that you tend to play against them more. Lastly, with the exception of Steve and Sephiroth, sword characters tend to be your typical "I fight for my friends 😃" type of character, which just adds to the samey feeling that I feel like sword characters have.

Movement stats, launch angle and risk/reward all heavily delineate the swordies. Would you honestly sit down and tell me Corrin - a floaty, combo oriented character - and Robin - a slow, stray hit focused zoner - are similar characters? The only characters you can say that about are echoes (which are not unique or more common in swordies) About counters - they’re not at all a swordie thing. Little Mac, Bayonetta, Greninja, Mii Brawler, Peach, the Shotos, Joker - there are more characters without swords that have counter than characters with swords that have counters. It’s just a fighting game thing. And finally, you can’t just take ONE of Ike’s voice lines and act like that’s every swordie’s personality from their game. It’s rare that you can just play smash and actually get a character’s personality from it. Look at the space animals, you don’t know what they’re like unless you’ve played Star Fox. How about the Pokémon? Completely void of any characterization.

@@notachainlinkfence480 I wasn't even trying to quote Ike, I genuinely was going for something that vaguely sounded like something Sora would say. Also you say that Pokemon are void of characterization as if that isn't by design. I know this might surprise you, but the Pikachu in Smash is just a random Pikachu, it's not supposed to be Ash's Pikachu or some specific Pikachu from the games. Same thing with every other Pokemon except maybe Mewtwo. And what's super ironic is that they managed to give Incineroar more personality in his Side B alone compared to Corrin's whole entire kit. Before I forget, Falco is for sure a space animal that I'd say you can get a good idea of their personality from just their taunts and victory quotes. His lines "piece of cake" and "hands off my prey" tell me that he's a cocky head strong character that isn't afraid to dive head first into a conflict. I don't know if that's accurate to his personality since I haven't played any of the Star Fox games. That being said, some sword characters DO have some kind of a unique personality shown, whether it's accurate or not is hard for me to say since I don't play JRPGs (unless it's Earthbound). You saying that the line I gave is from Ike is ironic because I actually like his personality. The fact that he uses a 2 handed sword with one hand is one of those simple details that I feel like tells you a lot about the character. I also like how with Marth you're forced to play a more calculated style if you want to land your tippers, not sure if Marth's personality is meant to be the careful strategic type, but if he is then Sakurai honestly nailed that one. I also like what they did with Sephiroth and Roy, but this comment would get to be very long if I explained that. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I realize this is all Chrom and Corrin's fault. Corrin made people resent Fire Emblem characters in Smash due to the fact that not even Fire Emblem fans wanted her in the game. And Chrom is the epitome of the generic and samey issue. He literally feels like the result of Ike and Roy doing a fusion dance.

Reasons to remove Robin 1. No one plays them meaning no one is going to complain if they are cut. 2. Having limited uses for the spells is stupid and only serves to make people not want to play Robin 3. Despite being kinda garbage, they're still an annoying ass character. Also if we can only keep 3 Fire Emblem characters, Ike should be one of them. He's cool, and the only character that plays remotely similar to him is Pyra and sometimes Ganondorf.

You can’t say Awakening “revived” the series when it came out not long after two of the best games in the series. Awakening also should have been kept to one rep (Robin).

​@notachainlinkfence480 accept it did lol. Awakening was going to be the last FE had it not been as successful as it was, hence why there are *three* Awakening reps in Smash and not just one or two. These two "best games" you are talking about did not have that much of an impact on a wide enough audience in comparison.

Yeah. And it's ironic that Robin and Byleth tend to be the ones getting most of the hate. When they're the most unique characters from the series in Smash.

​@ElChicoBush True. If any characters deserve to be removed it's Chrom and Lucina. Marth and Roy already have somewhat similar special moves anyways (a charge neutral B, dancing blade, counter). We really didn't need echo fighters of two characters that are already kinda similar in the grand scheme of things. Besides, do we really need three FE Awakening reps? If they want them in so badly, they'd do better as alts in my opinion

It's sad that Corrin is the FE character that gets the most hate. Corrin is far more unique that Lucina or Chrom or even Ike for that matter. Like sure, nobody asked for Corrin as DLC but I don't think having them there would have been as big of an issue if Lucina wasn't given a character slot in Smash 4
