I barely even keep up with smash anymore but damn the production value on these videos alone is enough to keep me interested. You keep things super fresh by mixing in the highest increases in ranks and why they increase when a lot of people would probably just list them one by one. Great stuff!
Love these videos, the editing and visuals are really great, and easy to understand! If I had one bit of criticism, it would be that some of the background noise can be a bit too loud, so your voice is sometimes hard to hear (like at 3:54 and forward). But please keep these coming, truly some good Smash content!
I respect your opinion about the background noise. For me personally it’s not a problem I can hear his voice really well but if you had some trouble hearing it that means in the future when the channel blows up other people may have the same issue.
So a lot of steves success can be attributed to a few highly skilled players, not the character being overpowered but having a high skill ceiling. Hmmmm
Love how we have some cool sounding characters in this game like Sephiroth and Zero Suit Samus only for the highest performing characters to be guys named Rob and Steve 💀.
9:57 im still trying to accept that theres a Steve player named *Big Chungus* who is getting results. What the heck lol thats the best thing ive heard in awhile
its crazy how much of an impact a characters difficulty has, even theoretically incredible characters sit at mid level results and use like sheik, pika, and inkling. but very easy characters with barely any meta left to develop and even glaring flaws like cloud, byleth and to an extent pythra have incredible results and a lot of rep n rly shows how important being easy is for a characters viability
pythra for sure is top tier whether u consider ease of use or not, but cloud for a long time was considered just an average high tier, only recently with spargos rise have ppl started putting him in top tier n thats part of my point - ppls criteria for being a good character has been gradually shifting away from theoretical potential to ease of use n consistency
Not just easy; they're effecient stocktakers. Cloud and byleth also will win if you trade w/ them. Sheik, pika and inkling, all explode while not dealing insane dmg without tough confirms. That's another element. That's why characters with both (gmw, samus) will grow in number soon.
That's the key word, theoretically. As long as humans have flaws (reaction time, nerves, rage, arthritis, fatigue) certain characters will never do anything. With Pikachu after he was butchered from Smash 64 he has been very unforgiving to its player. ESAM has been playing Pikachu longer than some people have been alive, yet he gets upset by nobodies at pools, and teenagers a third of his age are in the top 20 world ranking. Sheik though it is a case of everything good about her butchered over the years, it is a miracle she is even playable in Ultimate. Inkling never stood a chance, she/he can't kill a biodegradable paper bag, before DLC Wario and R.O.B already existed and took stocks below 100%.
I stopped competing because of Steve. Steve really ruined the game for me. I was a 4-2 or 3-2er (borderline PR in my state) but losing to a couple random Steves made me quit
Very VERY well made video. As someone who makes content similar, I know how much work it takes to analyze everything and script everything out. And your video editing is mad clean. I definitely want to improve my editing so it looks more like this. But seriously man, well done, and you’ll gain way more subs.
As a Sephiroth main, he isn't the best and I know that, but I'll take what I can get. Atleast I can sleep well at night knowing that I'm maining a high tier.
Hey man, great video! Just a small critique but I think the music could be a bit lower at some points throughout the video and was a little intrusive to some parts. Overall, this video was great and I can’t wait to see more from you
Characters like Pika, Peach/Daisy and ZSS are examples of "in theory its good, but in practice... ehhh" Its interesting to see how more difficult characters are much lower on this chart when compared to more traditional tier lists, especially Pikachu holy shit what a drastic departure from ordinary tier lists. When compared to basically anyone's tier list (excluding Japan's opinion on the character), Pikachu is drastically out of place more than any other. There is definitely a reason why Pika is one of, if not the most, dropped main in the entire roster because the rat is just not consistent and takes way too much commitment to get any results with. There are many that flock to the character because damn near every tier list flaunts the rat as top 3, top 5 or top 10 minimum but then drop them after long hauls in the lab getting barely anywhere. Seems like characters that are not consistent, have bad approach, rely too much on hard reads, die at early percents or simply just far too precise to play aren't getting results but characters that have straightforward and consistent game plans or have great reliable and/or quick kill moves in neutral look like they get good results here.
So, in order to resume your comment: Ultimate players be dumb and want ease to pick up. It's infuriating to watch top level ultimate because it quickly devolves to an optimized flowchart approach for everyone.
@@necromax13 the game is starting to reach the stage of its lifespan where everyone at top level just sort of knows exactly how to play every situation imaginable. These players have to go through long hauls through bracket to get to grands or top 8, certain characters are just exhausting to play in that span of time consistently so its just more efficient to play what is more probable to work easier. I think mental stamina is a highly underrated factor in determining results.
@@necromax13 During the late 2000s/early 10s, the meta of melee became practically established and only minor differences became apparent after. Its a generalization my guy. Of course not EVERY situation is planned and accounted for.
One interesting thing about the list to be seen is the changing of valued character traits. Ease of use used to be a higher trait, but as people realized effecient stocktaking is more important, characters like pika, joker, Pam, and lucina fell off while characters like gmw, cloud, mario, and byleth blew up. As a person who switched from lucina to wolf, I may be biased in my hypothesis, but I think I'm right.
Is there a way to get full results in a document of sorts? What if I want to see character specifics besides those mentioned? Where can I do the research?
I don't really play competitive. But it's kinda disapointing to see that 3 out of my 6 mains are simply OP. Which means I don't win by skill, but because the character is just better. I play: Cloud, Steve, Byleth, Mii Brawler, Bowser Jr. & Daisy.
@@ComboSmooth Yeah, different regions have different top players who defines the meta, every meta in a game, any game, is gonna be reflected by what the best use, and vice versa
No clue who you are I don’t care about smash but this video was bleeding effort homie. Really good production value and I can tell you worked hard. Subbed because why not. Would be interesting if you made like a history type of video
Excellent production value! It's also really intriguing to see Ultimate still varying with time, and even having significant differences between regions
Completely random fact nobody asked for: the best character in Ohio in terms of top-player usage rates is Snake. This is funny because last I checked, the most successful character via win-rate in Ohio is... also Snake.
subbed,, liked, commented as a person who hasnt even tried to play since like 5 months after release and trying to pick the game back up nice fkn work dude!
This is a very good video but the music is way too loud compared to the VO :[ I'd recommend adding a compressor to the music that is side chained to the VO so that the music ducks when you speak
I gotta say you are genuinely one of the best smash content creators right now. You are so underrated and I hope that changes soon! Keep up the good work man!
He's probably one of the three glassiest characters in the game, due to being gigantic compared anyone lighter than him. People tend to avoid volatile characters that aren't firmly high tier or better.
@@nathanlevesque7812 but he kinda is high tier. He has some of the best offensive tools in the game. I just don’t understand how he is in the bottom five.
Survival is just an incredibly important (and underappreciated) factor, whether a character is glassy or tanky. The glassy ones tend to lose players. @@bnsz8704
Amazing video, i really found so much of this interesting. I will say though, especially around 5 minutes, I found the music to be distracting, as it was almost as loud as you were. I think you would have been better off without it. Still a great video though!
