One? Or THE greatest band(s)ever? Lol. I have several close runner ups but no one really comes close to beating them. Just one aging "90's rocker chic's" opinion.
@@lisaspencer1057 I LOVE sp but they're not and would never say they're the greatest band of all time. Velvet underground? Hendrix? Beatles? Stones? Stooges? I would say of the 90s them Nirvana janes addiction and rhcp but not the best band of all time come on
fanofflan sigh. A. I’m entitled to rate bands to my liking however I want. B. I put lol. Clearly that should tell a reader that I’m not being 100%. The growth and variety scsible from the pumpkins is not met by very many bands and that defiantly puts them at the top end of MY list. I love Nirvana but if I had to choose one of the two to listen to for the rest of my life it’d be SP hands down. Perhaps if nirvana had continued that’d be different as I firmly believe their music would have grown. MTV unplugged gave us a glimpse of the how much more they had to give. 😢. Janes addiction is almost equal to SP for me. And even if they didn’t it’s ok. It only matters to me.
I was fortunate to see Jimmy as part of the band play live twice before things went to shit with Melvoin's death in '96. Matt is okay but there's nothing like Jimmy play live, especially the magic he made as part of the Pumpkins. He is a legendary beast of a drummer.
He does a good job, basically nailed jellybelly one of the two times he had to tour with it. He waa the guy that had to replacicate the electric drum tracks on filter's supporting tour for "short bus"
I fear that I am ordinary just like everyone To lie here and die among the sorrows Adrift among the days For everything I ever said And everything I've ever done is gone and dead As all things must surely have to end And great loves will one day have to part I know that I am meant for this world My life has been extraordinary Blessed and cursed and won Time heals but I'm forever broken By and by the way Have you ever heard the words I'm singing in these songs? It's for the girl I've loved all along Can a taste of love be so wrong As all things must surely have to end And great loves will one day have to part I know that I am meant for this world And in my mind as I was floating Far above the clouds Some children laughed I'd fall for certain For thinking that I'd last forever But I knew exactly where I was And I knew the meaning of it all And I knew the distance to the sun And I knew the echo that is love And I knew the secrets in your spires And I knew the emptiness of youth And I knew the solitude of heart And I knew the murmurs of the soul And the world is drawn into your hands And the world is etched upon your heart And the world so hard to understand Is the world your can't live without And I knew the silence of the world
Walker is very good under every aspect but didn't write that battery score. Check for the original track or any other live version around, Chamberlin watermark is undeniable... Great song, one of my favs overall.
Kiss her in the lips and smoke weed with James... Wait? Didn't they have a thing going on? I guess I'd be kissing both on the lips.....im confused suddenly.
Sabrina the Teenage Witch(before she turned into a lame Lifetime Movie person...) Smashing Pumpkins Late Night Conan O'Brien Gah....really miss the 90s sometimes. Especially now in March 2020....to say the least...
Matt Walker didn't even get to sit out front with the rest. I think Matt's drumming threw the groove off of everyone, the timing and even chord strumming seemed a bit off... even for being live. Billy seemed perturbed, maybe by not having his buddy Jimmy there to play it? I remember this airing about a month after they played in Portland and thinking how the band sounded different and less exciting but still awesome all at the same time.
This is right around when Billy was in full control freak melt down of course, so I think that was probably a significant contributor. They don't exactly look like they're having a great time up there, it definitely looks like 'work'... I thought Matt was rather on point thought honestly. He isn't Jimmy, obviously, they have very different styles and that's quite audible(Matt has some weight in those hands!), but I thought he filled in great myself. Just too bad how things went. Yea, yea, if they didn't go that way we might not have gotten the Pumpkins music that we did(I still love 'Adore' to this day, even if it's one of the lower rankings albums among most fans - was a depression antidote, if that makes any sense what so ever, surprised it didn't kill me instead...) if the great band destroying meltdown never occurred, but they also could've went that much further too. While I still love the psuedo-solo album Pumpkins work too, we all want the band we knew together of course.
omg, THIS is matt walker? i just bought the adore deluxe set and he absolutely ruined every remix/remaster on there with his loop-based drumming. i just assumed this was the guy with the yellow goggles that played the adore tour.
@@comradesXcosmos nope. Matt only played for the Mellon Collie tour. The drummer youre thinking of that toured for Adore was a guy named Steve...something. forgot his last name. But he was a great drummer. Better than Matt in my opinion. He had so much more power.
To all the musicians, jimmy chamberlains drumming is insane! Guys, just replay this and listen to and watch the drummer. I’m a guitar player and singer, but holy crap this drummer was awesome. Dude was an absolute beast.
SP were/are/were one of the few bands that actually made a point of sounding live as they did on their albums. There are so many great videos of them playing at various venues on RU-vid, you should check them out...
Nevermind Corg's problematic intonation... this was not the song to bring out with JC. Yes, Matt Walker is great, but he. is. no. Chamberlin. That first fill was just "meh." Anyway, one of my fave Pumpkins' songs.
00:24 - It's annoying AF when that drummer rushes the crash hit after every fill that leads into the verses...not like on the record and not like when Jimmy was drumming. Just isn't the same and throws off the whole band. Slopped up the feel and dynamics of the song.
