No one has talked about the delicious flavor of Smaug generating exactly 14 treasures. It's one treasure for each dwarf in The Hobbit (13 dwarves) + 1 treasure for Bilbo.

It goes infinite with just the selesnya guildmage that populates by paying 2GW. Just use the treasures to continue paying the 2GW cost and stop at 10 billion or whatever you like

The effects all fit together but not sure why this is named what is it. "There and back again" is the whole book; why not "The calamity of Smaug" or "Into the dragon's lair" or "Journey to Erebor"?

Missing Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink in this list. They seem to be made for each other. If you can not immediately afford the second effect, you start with the first one. In the end you generated 70 treasure token. Orthion Effect: {1}{R}, {T}: Create a token that's a copy of another target creature you control. It gains haste. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step. Activate only as a sorcery. {6}{R}{R}{R}, {T}: Create five tokens that are copies of another target creature you control. They gain haste. Sacrifice them at the beginning of the next end step. Activate only as a sorcery.

Brudiclad doesn't just transform creature tokens. He can transform all your treasure tokens into smaugs. In other words, every combat phase multiplies the number of treasure tokens by 14. Combine with Hellkite Charger for infinite attack phases and infinite mana.

* Rionya, Fire Dancer - get AT LEAST one copy of Smaug on every combat, plus one extra copy for each instant or sorcery you cast before that. This is a great way to fuel your "Storm Off" game plan * Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink - pay 2 mana in, get 14 mana out, net 12 mana. Or pay 9 mana in, get 70 mana out, net 61 mana. * Nesting Dovehawk - if you're in Boros, just populate Smaug every combat * Magda, Brazen Outlaw - goes without saying, but Magda is a brilliant payoff for all those treasures you're making. Tutor out your big game-winning dragons or artifacts instantly.

Combine with sword of shared souls and for 3 mana can turn any creature you control into 14 treasures.

This card seems silly!😊 When I first saw the name, I was expecting a Smaug card, and hoping he wasn't just going to be a mono-Red dragon, but since this isn't your Commander, my worries have been sated, since it can slot into basically any deck that can use Red. I know it isn't necessary, since umpteen Treasures SHOULD probably just win you the game, as is, but my brain likes the inefficient alt-win condition cards, so maybe Mechanized Production, or Revel in Riches? Even if you will be spitting out a ridiculous number of Treasures beyond 10, you could time things so you have them when one of these resolves, and literally just win the game.

blade of selves doesn't provide death triggers because myriad is not a destroy or damage effect, it is an exile effect. Exiled creatures do not die, they simply are removed from the game.

The trigger from Myriad itself is exile, yes. But Myriad doesn't cheat the Legend Rule, so the tokens it creates will have to be sacrificed as a State-Based Action. That's what gives you the death triggers.

Assuming the tokens lived to the end of combat, yes, they would exile. But these token copies won't make it that far because the Legend Rule still applies, so they would die immediately.

either Kenrith ( as commander) or Marneus Calgar, sword of shared souls and smaug, infinite treasures with both and card draw and astartes warriors with marneus. legend rule always sacrifice the equipped and treasures go brrrrrrrrr

I say Kenrith because its 5 color so you can bring a lot of the cards since there and back again doesn't fit in a MC deck, you can use another creature that can get itself back from the graveyard, or something like squee the immortal and find another value engine commander in izzet

By the time Smaug is on the battlefield, the Saga trigger has already left the stack and the card has been sacrificed, so you can't flicker it. However, you can populate the token quite easily in White with Nesting Dovehawk or Song of the Worldsoul.

just thought of a 3 card pain combo, smaug, academy manufactor, and refireweaver. kill /sac smaug for 14 treasure, manufactor also creates 14 food and clue tokens... 14 x 3= 42 dmg by the fireweaver YOU WIN
