Every time someone goes all in on the "dragons have no hard set of rules" idea (ESPECIALLY if they go as hard as Jack does here) my lifespan extends, my crops are watered, my soul is healed, and my skin in cleared. Please, PLEASE, continue with pushing what a dragon can be, it really just makes for better dragons.

Dragons in mythology: any large animal Dragons in fiction: big reptilian monsters with 4 legs and 2 wings and if it doesn't fit into those criteria then so help me god

It's so fun to think of ways to make dragons out of things people don't think are dragons. I have a few massive beasts in one of my story concepts that are all called dragons, but about the only criteria for their design is that they are big, have multiple legs, and some wing like element to their design. Examples: A big stony mole that has an extra pair of claws up front to help dig faster; A wooly mammoth thing with big ears; A lobster with those feather things peacock mantis shrimp have.

@@tinycorvid Dragons can fit into classes they don’t have to have wings for example Drakes and Wyrms don’t have wings some like the Amphiptere don’t even have legs I say a dragon has to be vicious has claws and if it’s based on another animals should like reptilian

Yeah, in my general mind and in the books I'm writing, "dragon" isn't even a type of animal, it's just a word for someone or something that has achieved incredible power... mammals, reptiles, fish, even humans! I think it's great for everyone to stretch the definition of "dragon".

Exactly! So what if it doesn't look exactly like your generic Western dragon? I love drawing all types of dragons. Whether it be a set kind like a lindworm or a wyvern, or a random existing species with draconic features, or just some random reptilian creature that popped out of my head from no where. Yesterday I drew a dragon with a clock for an eye and cow horns and a pink cow pattern, just because I can. And just because it doesn't look like the generic dragon doesn't make it less of one.

I love doing what suggestively does on pushing the limits on what a dragon can be, however I decide to stretch that out a lot, it to the point where I made a dragon mimic species that basically is able to levitate and mimics dragons extremely well, but the biggest flaw is the fact that it’s eyes look more like the snake from the jungle book (when the snake is hypnotizing Mogli mind you) Also that species of creature was kind of inspired by mew when I first drew it so since I love giving dragons different typings to fit them in with a specific group, despite the specific species not even being a dragon I decided to give it the psychic tape to pay homage to its inspiration. But I seriously love how much subjectively pushes the limits

I actually had an idea for a regional form Klinklang line that was based on water wheels with growth on it, but now that I've seen the Pokemon Present it would make more sense for the form to be an ancient form, I guess

Gosh, I am OBSESSED with Astrid! Gothic designs always hit home, and her's was no exception. Although, on the opposite end of the spectrum, I want to adopt Celery and make sure no one disrupts his naps. And then you throw Suchip at me!? I can't handle all this goodness in one video.

I don't want to ruin any days here but as a fellow vegetarian, I just wanted to say that not all cheese is vegetarian. Some cheese is made with rennet(basically enzymes in a calf's stomach. I didn't know this until a year ago either I don't want to scold anybody just thought this might interest someone

@@Breadcutter I believe there’s some people making lab grown enzymes to replace the ones gotten from calves. But I don’t remember where I heard that from, so don’t take my word for it and look it up yourself.

All these dragon designs look so cool! The gothic dragon has to be my favorite. Also, I did like the first design of Suchip, but I think the pose made me think of a dog more than a crocodile so I like the second version more!!

I preferred the 1st design personally - I think the dog elements made it cuter, and at one point I thought it could have used both designs as different forms, like a 'full' form and a 'hangry' form, where the full form has defence buffs and the hangry form has attack buffs Or the full form goes to sleep at full HP, but when reduced to half it wakes up as the hangry form with massive attack buffs and stays hangry until back to full HP The dog elements could also be expanded upon, there are definitely dog breeds out there that will just eat and eat all day if they could (golden retrievers I'm looking at you)

@@aaronconway4435 As far as I know all dogs don't know when to stop eating. That's how Eskimos "hunt" wolves. They make a blood popsicle with a knife. The wolf licks it numbing its tongue from the cold. Then when it slices its tongue on the blade it doesn't feel it and is so focused on licking up the blood it doesn't realize it's now its own blood and it bleeds to death. A somewhat cruel but efficient way to get dog meat.

The ability “Gluttony” for Suchip should also have an effect like “when making contact with the opponent, eat their berry.” I know there’s already a move like that (even one that BURNS the opponent’s berry), but it just makes sense for a ravenous little alligator god baby.

Rather than Runscape, the virtual dragon was giving me Spyro vibes. Like when he had to rescue all the older dragons who were trapped in crystal.

Yeah. Polly Looks like a dragon statue that stood up. Considering how low poly those model ware, and how generic of a dragon they represented. It would be imposible to draw something like that whitout any resambles.

I think the cheese dragon was so endearing and his shape was adorable. My favorite type is probably baby bell cheese and i imagine him with a little red wax cape and cheese cloth blanket. Love him!

Dragon-types are some of my favorite Pokémon, and I especially love ones like Drampa and Goodra that experiment more with what the typing can give us in terms of design, so Suchip is an instant fav of mine for the Maza region. Can’t wait for his second form!

I love your designs so much! The tropical one, Brody, is my favorite so far, but that may be biased because I live in a tropical country and I really liked how you combined two very different animals (iguana + parrot) and still made it fun and adorable. The coconut was simply fantastic as well.

I like the idea that Suchip inhabits not just swamp and similar places but also trash dumps, since they can eat plastic. They were originally thought to be in danger in those areas but since the people working there learned they can safely eat plastic, they kept them safe while they were in the area allowing Suchip to have a welcoming home for when they evolve:)

I like Suchip's initial design a lot more than his new one. It has that classic early-gens feel to it. I think its the eyes. Either way, like you said, it's just the first stage, so I'm excited to see the next one. The other dragons were all great, and definitely still dragons.

The polygonal dragon could literally be Mega Porygon. Normal/Dragon @Porygonite Ability: Polygonal Glare Gives -1 atk or sp atk depending on the higher attack stat of the opponent when switching in

I want the Suchip evo to be a bit like the cheese dragon. Like with comically small wings, one eye closed & one open, and maybe a bubble forming out of one of their nostrils. Also, people telling you it’s not a dragon is just people trying to force their notions of a made up mythical creature upon you. Do it your way, it’s better; most of them’ll probably tell you that you can only draw things that look like your gothic dragon, and that’s so *boring.*

Love your daily dragons and having so much fun watching Smaugust! Super fun way to enjoy my birthday month. Love the idea of making a pokemon inspired by Cipactli! Less of a god in the traditional sense and more of a hungering primordial terror that the gods slew and used its corpse to craft the world. Perfect inspiration for a rolly polly alligator!

Suchip is so precious! I imagine it's evolution to have another mouth in place of its tail to pay omage to the original deity. We have pokemon with mouths on their tails, but none have been actually symmetrical, so that could be cool.

if anything, these prompts make me realize just how far the "dragon" concept can be taken. the cheese and carp ones were personal highlights for me for that exact reason. as impressive as both eastern and western dragon designs are, i feel like we have come to a point where we cannot take those concepts much further. in that regard, seeing these smaugust prompts and just how different and whacky these designs turn out to be makes me really happy. especially when breaking away from the idea that dragons have to be reptilian. despite not being one of my favourites, i can appreciate day 18 since it's just "oh so you wanted a dragon? to hell with that, here have a freaking bear"

Your first design for Suchip kinda looks like a regional form of Totodile, I think it was a good idea to redo it since you wanted it to be unique. Love the chonky baby croc.

The Polygon Dragon reminded me so much of the dragon statues from Spyro. Very nostalgic for that time in my life. Also, Dragons come in so many different shapes and defining features simply based on the legends and stories from so many different cultures. To keep to one is to ignore the possibilities that they could be, we're not talking about cats and dogs here, we're talking about bleeping dragons.

I like how celery's green color is similar to how sloths grow algae on their backs! It's nice to see how you noticed you needed some green dragons and chose the most fitting dragon to make green!

I think that Brody, the tropical iguanadragon would actually fit into the Mazah region quite nicely as a single Pokemon as well. Polly gives me Spyro the Dragon vibes with the crystal dragons you rescue, I love it! You've smashed it this week with the designs, can't wait for the next one to see all of the dragons.

First of all, I LOVE the gargoyle design on Astrid and I got so excited about the carp-dragon!! The story of the carp needing to cross a rainbow bridge to turn into a dragon on the other side was one of the favorite legends to read as a kid, and still inspires me to this day! Awesome inclusion!

As I’ve been saying ever since childhood, a dragon can be anything you want it to be! A frog with claws- or a bird with scales! Anything! Don’t limit yourself based on the preconceptions of others. Dragons are amazing for letting you flex your creativity ;u; keep on bringing the beasties dude! You’re doing amazing. Polly is my favourite so far! Reminds me of the crystallized dragons from the original Spyro games and they hit me so hard in the nostalgia. Thank you for all this. As a side note, you’re one of my biggest sources of inspiration- the way you play with shapes and colours with such freedom- aaaa. It makes my heart do a lil flip

For an idea for the next evolution for Suchip, you could go with something like a Morelet's Crocodile or a Cuban Crocodile and mix it with something like a Kaprosuchus, an extinct species of crocodilian.

I honestly love Suchip. Design n shiny everything about it. Hunger was the word for the prompt. So wouldn't gluttony fit in that concept as well. You can honestly make it the pseudo of your region. Keep up the awesome work.

Frankly listening to Jack have to premeditate a response to people's opinions about what 'makes a dragon' hurts as a creative peron. He shouldn't have to expecting lashback about his own artwork- so if you're about to post a comment to whine about one of the designs or call it out - take a second, think why you're about to call it out and mind your damn business. We're here to watch his creativity unfold, unhindered. Hearing negativity about your artwork can be such a huge confidence knock, even subconsiously, and frankly Jack's creative process, artwork and ideas are always so increadbly inspiring. Unless somone is explicitly looking for criticism to grow- keep it to yourself, or at the least keep it constructive (: (This goes for all artists!) Pushing the boundaries of design and artwork is exactly what should be endlessly encouraged and praised. Keep it up Jack, you're producing amazing things here pal!

I LOVE the sleep dragon, I always like the types of dragons which aren't directly reptilian but more lean to other types like mammalian or avian. also, love the small croc. It looks really unique from both Totodile and sandile.

"Mac" is the perfect name for the cheese dragon! And the Design on it turned out particularly well! I love the reference to Cheez-Its and bugles, I actually was wondering if the horn was supposed to be shaped like a bugle, then you mentioned that it was!

omg I liked the first version of suchip so much more!! it was really selling the god aspect of it, but it was still cute enough to be a first stage. I feel like halfway between the first and second versions would be like the ideal baby dragon concept

If you look at old “dragons” such as the French tarasque it has a lions head with 6 bear arms a turtle shell and a scorpion tail sometimes a serpentine tail it depends, yet it’s still a dragon all the same

I gotta say that in real life, you see a lot of variations for same species and seeing so many different dragons is super cool, I'm saying this because of the constant justification with dragons like the Carp one. It totally had that cool and mythical look a Dragon should have, it turned out really cool.
