This vid was exactly what I was looking for. I have the opposite problem where I think the extended slide stop on the new M2.0 sticks out too far and interferes with my grip, so I'm getting a previous-gen slide stop to replace it.

Great video to see how the slide stop is designed. The manual says to rack the slide to close it, and silent on using the slide stop. Do you have any options on the best way to do it?

I don't really like the extended slide stop. I have a very high and forward cant grip and that extension bruises my palm and causes pain when I shoot

I just bought the new .45 with new trigger, threaded barrel, etc. Slide is locking back all the time with no failures. Saw this video and pulled out my 4.25 and 3.6 compact 9mm's. They are all the newer version with the new trigger and all have the same slide stop. Well the .45 and the 4.25 9mm have NO SPRING, but my 3.6 compact has the spring. I want the spring !

I just picked up a 4.6" full size 2.0 9mm with the threaded barrel, optics cut, and suppressor height sights. My slide lock has no return spring and is bent on the left side where the detent is. It slips off of the frame detent and locks open with no magazine inserted. I ordered a slide lock with a spring from Midwest Gun works.

Same. I got the 2.0 full size 9mm and it has no spring. It keeps locking open every couple of rounds. WTH was smith thinking?

weird question is your slide stop loose ?My slide has been locking to the rear while shooting before the mag is empty. it could be me with my grip but when i take the slide off while cleaning the slide stop feels super loose on the grip frame. Not sure if thats normal and its just my grip but i would think the spring would help hold down the slide stop to the frame more than being that loose. I could be wrong though as i said but any info would be much appreciated.

I will trade you mine in heartbeat! It hurts my hand when I am shooting. Its to pronounced for me and it's super stiff. I just purchased the 3.6 Optic ready compact. I love the firearm ( I have the older 2.0 4' and I love it) I brought this one for the new trigger and to replace my 43X as my new carry.

Same. I hate the extended one. I’m use to shooting Glocks and I shoot with that high thumbs forward grip and the stop grinds against my palm under my thumb.

Awesome. Thank you. I was shocked to find out S&W refuses to sell parts when I called them. I'm a lefty, and the stock slide stop is terrible and should not be advertised as ambidextrous. I found a seller on e bay that was selling the performance center slide stop and bought one. Not sure why S&W makes life difficulty for lefties.

Odd... I purchase parts directly from S&W all the time. Just last week I bought a new extractor for an M&P Shield.

@@BertieW0oster The only parts S&W are willing to sell are the plugs for the safety. Anything related to internals and it has to be shipped back to S&W for replacement. This is five different S&W representatives and an e-mail to S&W, in which upper management had responded to my question as to why internal components cannot be purchased by customers. I could not even purchase a slide stop from them.

@@BertieW0oster I live in a non-restrictive state. Besides, they don't ask anything - after the opening greeting, I state I need to purchase X from them, and get flat out denied. This is a common theme on S&W forums and other firearm related sites.

So glad I ran into your video. I did the exact same swap! And in my case it was the opposite, extended release has a spring and standard slide stop did not. Well when I did the swap at install I noticed the spring missing. I spent too many hours looking for it and ended up calling s&w for a replacement spring. They send me a safety plunger spring lol. Time to reassemble! Thanks for sharing and noting that!!

Total BS on the part of S&W. Despite having a good number of reliable and durable products, several of their policies (including this one) are downright hostile to end users. The fact that they will not sell a part that is an obvious safety upgrade speaks to their oversized concern for themselves and total lack of concern for their customers. I remain on the fence with them, and the more they prioritize money over safety - as with this case - the more I lean toward investing in other manufacturers' products.

Do you have advice for a super stiff Perf Center 9mm slide lock? Virtually impossible to release w the thumb. I saw a YT that said to gently file down one of the edges and I messed it up. Now it won't lock open. :( So now I had to re-order a factory slide stop (I didn't see the extended version and didn't see one that came w my PC pistol).

My original gen 1 shield was like that. And while it did get better with time, it was never to my liking. I would never take a file to it. But if you get your replacement and it’s still stiff you can polish the surface of the takedown lever. Not the entire surface, but just the part (the part which faces the back of the pistol) which interacts with the notch in the slide. I’m surprised your PC slide stop/release was so stiff. Was it a PC Shield by chance? I own 4 of the 2.0 pistols and none have had overly stiff slide stop/release levers. But my shield plus did. After I had it Cerakoted in elite blackout (it’s a more slick surface than the factory finish) it works better. I would just use a soft Dremel tip and some polishing compound on a low speed. The key would be to get the surface shiny without taking off any or as little metal as possible.

Great video! As usual, it looks like the extended slide lock/release is smaller on the right side. Everyone knows, left handed shooters don't really exist...right?🙃

Thank you! The left extended one is is approximately 8.2mm wide and the right side is approximately 7.5 mm wide. The left length is approximately 10.5mm and the right length is approximately 9.5mm. So the right side is slightly smaller by about 1mm.

What is the best way to make the slides? Stop easier to engage for left-handed shooters. Mine is extremely hard to push down with my left thumb. Can this be fixed or is it some thing I have to get used to?

Seriously, I took it apart fully and thought I lost that lever/spring on the slide stop assembly. So I called S/W asking for a replacement. Turns out they don’t have any. I was stuck, so I went back and found your video and for this version, there is no lever needed. Thankyou!

I think S&W has done away with the spring entirely, as I am now seeing normal slide stops without the spring as well. They were probably just using up old stock with the spring during the transition.

It seems like slightly more people prefer the extended version. If you ask around in the right places (like right here in the comments) someone might be interested in making an even trade.
