Smith & Wesson Revolvers
Level 1 Trigger/Action Job
The Level 1 trigger/Action job will give you a smooth, clean and light double action pull with a crisp 2lb single action pull. I start by polishing all interior components and then I hand stone the sear for that crisp single action pull. During this time I replace the hammer and rebound springs to reduce trigger pull weight and install an extra length firing pin for consistent never fail primer strike.
Price $95.00 labor. Parts $45.00
Level 2 Trigger/Action Job
The level 2 trigger/action job gives you all the features of the level 1 plus I hand fit a new cylinder stop and hand that are CNC machined from solid tool steel replacing the cast or MIM factory parts. Then I tune the cylinder making sure the crane is properly aligned, reducing end shake and install a crane detent lock for added support. Next I polish the chambers for smoother extraction and bevel the chamber mouths for faster loading. Last I re-contour the trigger so that it is smoother and more comfortable on the finger. And bob the hammer if desired.
Price $275.00 labor. Parts $100.00
Level 2 Extreme Trigger/Action Job
The level 2 extreme trigger/action job has all the features of the level 1 and 2 action jobs plus I replace and hand fit a new trigger and hammer that are CNC machined from solid tool steel replacing the factory cast or MIM parts. Giving you a solid no fail action that will last generations.
Price $350.00 Labor. Parts $375.00
Ruger revolvers parts and prices are different please ask. Parts prices are subject to change.

A little tip if I may...when taking things apart that have "air soluble parts"...put it in a large zip lock bag. That way when things go flying there contained within the bag...:) Nice vid too !

20:35 "...so you're going to pull back on-... Awww sonofabitch" Baaaaaahahahahaa! Oh man, that had me howling with laughter! and you were 'just' telling us to be careful, God I haven't laughed like that in a loong time (btw I'm guilty of this mistake myself, probably why I found it so funny). And excellent video series, I'll be sure to watch 'em all. Thanks for uploading!

Excellent video Scott, how much do you charge for this service on a S&W model 66-2 2.5". What is the $ difference between the level 2 and the 2 extreme.

I love your presentation, and the fact that you do not edit out the inevitable glitches. I started amateur smithing my own firearms in the 60’s and 70’s. You could say I studied at the School of Hard Knocks with a few lesson’s learned on the expensive side. I parlayed this into an FFL and 16 years of professional work from 1980 to 1996. I competed in PPC, IPSC, USPSA, SOF and 3 Gun. This gave me exposure to LE, Military and other clients who appreciated my work. I preferred to work on S&W, but did Colt, Ruger, and a few of the foreign makes that are basically clones. Eventually I got into auto pistols and got a contract to build 20 custom 1911’s for a Central Valley shop. In 1997 I retired and moved up in the Sierras. 27 years later, I am putting on a new pair of Hogue grips on my ancient Ruger Redhawk 7.5”. I had never thought about doing a trigger job on it, but decided to pull out the stones and Dremel and do some polishing. After removing the trigger group, I was separating the parts and all went well until I lifted out the hand. I knew and could see the spring plunger holding it forward…but soon experienced the “air soluble” nature of the spring/plunger. USPS is scheduled to deliver the parts (which are hard to find) tomorrow.

HELP -> QUESTION: my new (used) 686+ fires ONCE in double action but HAMMER won’t automatically RECOCK after round fired. Then CYLINDER TURNS when pulling trigger while hammer sits in position (pulling trigger over and over I get rotation of cylinder but that’s it). Thank you!!!! -FRUSTRATED

An interesting thing I have run across. I totally agree with the "frame bump" method of removing the side plate. Recently I purchased the S&W Revolver Armourers Course from Brownells.published by AGI. I was hoping for the best but I think I wasted my money. The Master Gunsmith teaches in this video to pop off the side plate with a quick upward motion with a screwdriver. I am really disappointed in that. There is some good information in this video but you kinda have to weed through to find it. I have enjoyed your RU-vid channel and learn a lot more here for free. Your good, accurate and common sense methods are easy to understand and appreciated.

Well done video. Thanks. I think I will try using a large clear plastic bag. Big enough to get my hands in should a spring try to get away. Thanks again.

This is outSTANDing. Nice job. I particularly like how you took one for the team and fired those parts off into the abyss so that we would be more careful to trap them. ;-) Did you find them yet, or are you still looking? Or did you just order new ones? I've got a 4" S&W 19 that has been worked on, but I'm having light primer strikes. I think someone filed down the hammer spring or something. The trigger pull is SO nice & light, but apparently a bit TOO light. Wife wants it to be our home defense gun, but it needs to be reliable first.

Just found your channel here. I did an "action job'" on my 586 several years ago and while it turned out fantastic, your tips and how to made me realize that I could have done it more efficiently and better. So thank you for this albeit it's 6 years past due. If you are still doing these, I do have one question. Tho.

Air soluble. Best quantification of gunsmithing faux pas ever. I would think it was very funny, if I asnt dealing with a Smith with a push off situation!!

Ok So I can not be 100% certain because I can see it. But it is most likely one of two things. The double action sear may not be resetting. This could be one of 2 things. The spring could be weak or gummed up or it has a new double action sear that did not get fitted properly. Second the rebound spring could be weak or gummed up and not resetting. Before you open up the side plate check out my video on Gunsmithing tools screwdrivers. And if you are not sure take it to a good gunsmith.

VDC Firearms First, thank you so much for responding. It’s a bit old, 686-4. The first spring you mentioned... was that the so-called “main spring” I see people tighten after removing the rubber grip? I will try to educate myself to see if I can fix it. I just retired and bought this... looked almost new. Dry fire with snap caps works all day long (hammer nose firing pin), but after ONE SHOT LIVE FIRE, I pull trigger & cylinder just rotates WHILE HAMMER STAYS DOWN. I suppose I’m hoping it’s just a spring. It had some common lead residue in cylinders that you get firing .38’s. My problem occurred whether I shot 38 or 357. Thank you so much for responding. I was thinking & hoping there’s a good community of 2A firearms folks out there. ...And YES I will check out your video before removing side plate

@@daytonagreg8765 No it's not the main spring. It's a small spring under the double action sear. You may want to buy a book called S&W REVOLVER SHOP MANUAL- 5TH EDITION. But I would highly recommend you take it to a good gunsmith. You can make thing much worse by doing this without the proper training.
