I got shot 6 times with a 9mm from across a dining table (by a nut that said I was the devil). Even though one went into my chest under my left arm and exited my right nipple, I got up and walked down 4 flights of stairs and waited on the ambulance. No vital organs or major arteries hit but although my left arm was shattered above the elbow and my pelvic bone got a hole punched through it, I stayed that night, the next day and walked out of the hospital the next night. This is why I only carry a .45 and keep it loaded with Hornady 230g +P XTP. Nobodys walking away.

I own the Shield Plus 9mm, and just bought the Shield .45, and took it out to the range for the first time this afternoon. Another member of the Conservation club where I shoot was sighting in his 300 Winmag, and was letting his barrel cool off as I fired the .45 for the very first time, and watched me put the first six rounds through a two inch bullseye at 21 feet...we were both impressed! Awesome little tool that would definitely get somebody off of you! It's a keeper!

I Got a Brand new 45 Shield a month ago and I also noticed those serration looking things under my slide as well and did kind of concern me at first, but I have not experienced any problems at all since I started using it, so I'm not worried about it. I'm a little more than two boxes into this 45 Shield and not a single problem so far. I love it:-)

My carry also (Shield 9mm). Got a safe full of glocks that are collecting dust. The shield grip angle turned me from a good shot into a great shot. "Got my own range ". It's probably just my wrist structure but man what an improvement. I switched over completely in all sizes. Btw I can't tell much recoil different between 9 vs 45.

When I decided to carry I went with a Shield 9mm 1.0 because it had a safety . That was my comfort zone and no other small pistol offered that . While the Glock 43 might be more popular , without a manual safety I was not comfortable with that . I usually only carry if I have to go out at night or being in a area that is possibly dangerous . You can get tons of mag extension for the Shield . I have also left mine completely stock .

Yes, the Shield is an excellent conceal piece for a man or woman. Most women will be more comfortable with the 9 mms. As common as Shields are, it is not hard to find one to try at the range or have a wide selection of aftermarket parts. I would add that the slight size difference might impact printing depending on your frame and carry method. The 40 S&W Shield has the same capacity as the 45 ACP and uses the same frame as 9 mms. The 40 S&W also uses most of the same aftermarket parts as the 9 mms. Lastly you can get aftermarket barrels for the 40 to convert to 357 Sig and 9 mms.

Your Smith & Wesson Shield 45 is actually a 2.0 version you can tell if you look at the later model with the 2.0 stamped on the slide like mine. In the beginning they didn't put the 2.0 stamp on the 45 ACP slide. And yes it's normal to have those tool marks. It's one of my favorite pistols.

It’s it’s just a bigger cartridge and the spring tension from the magazine has worn some of the armonite finish off of it as such. Appreciate the video! You can file down the slide release on 2.0 45 and it will then go back into combat mode when you press the slide release Instead of re-rhacking it. Use a flat bastard file as hard as you can up on the edges on the slide release. 😎✌️

For anyone out there considering a shield of any caliber or version (1 or 2), the Hyve Technologies "Monarch" trigger works really well in these guns. Apex triggers seem to get all the attention but I never could get one to work properly in my S&W M&P Compact 9mm (V1). I gave up on both the Apex trigger and the gun. I used it as a trade-in on a M&P 45 Compact (V2). Anyhow, I finally installed the Monarch triggers on my Shield, 9, 40, and 45 and swear by them. They have a shorter and smooth pull with a crisp break as compared to the articulated stock trigger, highly recommended. Lastly, like the reviewer said, the 45 is super accurate. There's something about the Shields that I not only carry them but enjoy shooting them at my range.

I have the Shield 9 and the Shield 45 also. Those tool marks on the 45 are normal and intentional and you shouldn't try to polish them out. I have about 1567 rounds through my 45 with no failures. I did have to replace the RSA after my first range trip. It fell apart when I field stripped it for cleaning. Even then it didn't fte or ftf while I was at the range. My Shield 9mm, version 1.0, had a 6½ lb. trigger from the factory. I installed an Apex sear and that brought it down to 4½ lbs. The 45 had a 4½ lb. trigger right out of the box. I love both those pistols, but carry the 9mm more often.

Do NOT remove the scallops. They are there for a reason, to address reliability by increasing drag on the slide as it goes rearward and prevent the slide from outrunning the magazine. The 45 has several features the 9 does not found on the magazine, the slide and the frame to ensure reliable feeding. See if you can figure out just what they are.

Great video, grip feel does matter.. nothing wrong with a bigger bullet... those rough marks MAY need to be addressed, if the gun is cycling fine I wouldn’t worry too much

Nice video. If things were normal in 2020 I wouldn't even bother with any of these old single stacks anymore even though I've purchased a few in the past. Still nice carry options if you already own one but they are obsolete with options like Glock 43x + shield arms mag, hellcat, P365, and P365xl. There's really no point anymore especially when buying something new in 2020. I think if we are all being serious for a moment we all know there's no "appreciable" difference between 9, 40, & 45 from a terminal ballistics standpoint. However at this moment in 2020, it is getting much harder to find practice 9mm ammo and at decent prices. For the first time I'm considering adding a carry gun of another caliber other than 9mm for this reason. Shield 40 and 45 looking like some nice backup options!

Love the Shield 9mm. BUT, it would be much improved if they squared off the grip in the back to help absorb recoil better. Not wider. Just much less taper.

Mine has the marks too. Shield 2.0 45. Shoot 50 rds once a week for the last 3 months Ive had it, not a single problem.

Use the Shield 40, Shield 45, and Sig P938. They're my small compact carry pistols and I don't see me needing anything new in the future.

The grip of the 45 seems to fit my hand better. I don’t have that big of hands, just saying it fits me better. Plus I have always liked my 1911 45APC, it’s just too big and heavy to carry. Although the new RIC is interesting. 10 round double stack is very interesting also. If you haven’t seen it check it out!!

Oh forgot to mention Pearce makes a little finger extension for the 6 round mag that increased control just a bit over the flat 6 round base. Hyve makes a +1 for the 7 rounder. Great little 45. My favorite 45 by far.

I would lightly polish that rail. That rail rides on the trigger sear as it recoils back. It's not an issue as much as a pet pieve. It is still safe and will not cause an accidental discharge. My pet pieve is when the trigger bar feels gritty getting to the wall. I just polish the rough edge out and the gritty feeling is gone. It's caused by a rough trigger bar pushing up on the striker safety plunger.

regarding the ridges...i would think that with more and more firing, they should go away (be worn down). my sa 1911 has a small engraving in the same place on the slide. when i first cycled it by hand, i felt it. i disassembled it to see what it was and that's when i discovered it. but with more and more rounds through it, it has worn down to where it's hardly noticeable, anymore. and i know that with even more rounds, it will eventually wear down enough to where it won't be noticeable at all. and i need to add a shield to my collection. i've only shot one once, but i remember it being very easy to shoot and i liked the feel of it.

I didn't like the way the grip felt in my hand at first cuz the sides r slimmer than the front to back but its grown on me. Very accurate reliable and always on me 24/7

The shield Plus is the exact same size and carries a whole lot more ammo. These 2 compared to each other the .45 is just more gun. I’d say as far as the inside I don’t think you have anything to worry about. I did inspect mine and it appears pretty smooth to me. It couldn’t hurt to send Smith & Wesson an e-mail with a pic describing your concern.

First timer and I chose the 40 2.0 I’m sure I’ll get used to it, I chose it after watching months of different pistol videos, I thought I’d pay $600 man it was half that can’t beat it.

You asked me so here you go. The caliber makes no difference. They are both good...for a semi auto handgun. The stippling on the 45 has a nice grip to it and is available on the 9mm 2.0. If I carried 45acp, I would run FMJ after seeing a chest x-ray where a hollow point 45 barely made it through the sternum and stopped 1/4 inch from the heart. The patient survived. I would go with the 9mm for the one extra round and the smaller package but these are slight advantages. I conceal a Glock 19 and when my holster arrives, I'll start concealing my Walther Q5 Match so size isn't that much of an issue with me. I'm 6'2" 225 pounds. I like the Shield a lot. My wife had a Beretta Nano that was having a lot of issues so we sold it and now she carries the Glock 43. Before she settled on the 43, we did a side by side by side comparison of the 43, Shield and Ruger LC9S Pro. I wanted to like the Ruger but I loved the M&P Shield for the trigger and a nicer felt recoil over the Ruger. To me the Glock was the second best but my wife was so used to my Glock 19 that she was most comfortable on that trigger.
