If you ever wonder why people who grew up in the 70s always seem to be in a good mood just listen to the music we had to listen to. Here's another good one: Ray, Goodman, and Brown "Special Lady"

So much great music was our soundtrack in the 70’s , it made anyone have a better day and get through life! So much good music you almost didn’t have to buy the record, 8_track or cassette , just listen to the radio ! But the main thing I loved about 70’s soul music was that everyone young and old listened and enjoyed it all together!

Classic song, GQ’s version was actually a cover from a Billy Stewart song of the same name in 1965 which reached #5 on the R&B charts, GQ covered the song (this one) and released it on their album in 1979 which ALSO reached #5 on the R&B charts. GQ’s version is the one most people know but credit should also be given to the artist Billy Stewart who released it 14 years earlier.

This was back in the 70s when groups had to sing and play their own instruments. Another 💎!! I was so fortunate to grow up in this era(older siblings 9 & 7 years older than me). Men weren't afraid to express their feelings and not just want to "hit."

The original was recorded by Billy Stewart, one of my favorite 60's soul artists. Sadly he lost his life in a car accident in the early 70's. The GQ cover is great nonetheless. They also covered another Billy Stewart song Sitting in the Park and that charted too. Look em all up.

This is a R&B classic remake! GQ adds that 1960s Do-Wop vibe to this song! It's their most identifiable song, along with "DIsco Nights!" It's also the closing song to John Singleton's great 2001 movie, "Baby Boy" featuring Tyrese Gibson (A great singer in his own right), Taraji B. Henson, Omar Gooding, A.J. Johnson, Ving Rhames and Snoop Dogg.

Classic Slow Jam. A faster dance jam by GQ would be their hit "Disco Nights". "Shake" is also a cool jam by them. There a some cool slower songs with great uplifting and positive messages that you should get to at some point. "That's the Way of the World" - Earth, Wind & Fire "Wake Up Everybody" - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes "Risin' To The Top" - Keni Burke "Keep On" - D Train "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)" - Marvin Gaye "A Beautiful Morning" - The Rascals "Ribbon In The Sky" and "As" - Stevie Wonder "Sweet Love" - The Commodores "Love Will Find A Way" - Lionel Richie "People Make The World Go Round" - The Stylistics. This one is more more along the lines of Meaningful with a message. Still relevant today. There so many others that have such a uplifting , Positive or meaningful message that are classic that I can't list them all.

Some more 70s (and a few 60s) soul suggestions, Smokey Robinson - quiet storm; The spinners - it’s a shame (Jay would like the falsetto); The o’jays - for the love of money, I love music, stairway to heaven, emotionally yours (Bob Dylan cover; the live version from the Dylan anniversary concert is nice); Stylistics - people make the world go round, break up to make up, you are everything, i’m stone in love with you; Chi-lites - oh girl, (for god’s sake) give more power to the people; The undisputed truth - smiling faces sometimes; Friends of distinction - going in circles; Major Harris - Love won’t let me wait; William bell - tryin’ to love two; Tyrone davis - turning point; Joe simon - drowning in the sea of love; Lou rawls - natural man; Timmy Thomas - why can’t we live together (the organ is prominent in this); Isley brothers - it’s your thing, harvest for the world (power station did a cover), (from the 60s) - shout, this old heart of mine (you've reacted to the cover with Ronald Isley and Rod Stewart); The four tops - keeper of the castle, catfish, when she was my girl; George McCrae - rock your baby (his wife, Gwen McCrae had a callback song called, Rockin' Chair).

One of my absolute favorite 80s ballads. GQ covered two ballads from 60s legend Billy Stewart, this and Sitting In The Park, which I also love. I love and respect the original versions and Stewart's unique voice, but I personally prefer these remakes, which is extremely rare for me. Their huge hit is the anthem Disco Nights. This song was the follow-up.

A Billy Stewart cover. You should really go down the late great Billy Stewart rabbit hole "I Do Love you", "Sitting In The Park", "Summertime"...

There an incredible country song by Mark Wills called Don't Laugh At Me. I'm sure it rings true to many of us.

GQ has a great catalog. They do not get the recognition they deserve, I hope you explore some more of their hits such as "standing, ovation" and others ❗❗❕❕❕
