Smooth monster animation add-on for Doom www.doomworld.... modified to give the chaingunner the proper sound (not that of the shotgun like in vanilla game) and the same rate of fire as the player.
The player's chaingun animation is smooth due to Smooth weapons DeHackEd mod www.doomworld....

I always had the thought what made the Chaingunner (and why not the Spiderdemon) feels so intimaditing and powerful is that his weapon sounds like the shotgun, instead of the pistol (even though it should be that way). This video has confirmed that thought

The Spiderdemon's weapon is actually a six-barrel Gatling shotgun, it fires like the sergeant but rapidly.

@@sodoomaniacdesynficatedsoul Even then, they lose that intimidation factor that makes their weapons feel so dangerous and punchy. They sound even goofier with pistol sounds when the pitch is random.

I prefer the original version. Sounded much more intimidating, and helped you knowing if the bullets come out or go inside you.

You can customize it so the chaingunner has his own sound. I use the Doom 3 chaingun, it sounds great on his boosted fire rate.

Also, nice DeHack. I never realized that the fire rate of the chaingunner was, well, so off but it makes sense now considering how fucking fast these bastards mow you down.

what you mean? in vanilla chaingunner has lower firing rate and damage output than the player. the shotgun sfx makes it sound like faster.. but it actually is not.

@@rilluma That's his point. The sound illusion is good to mask the lower RoF of the vanilla chaingunner, and with this patch, they are insanely efficient at shredding Doomguy, so no wonder the fire rate was lowered before Doom 2 was released.

@@jordanfreman4954 Just an educated guess. It would've been much easier for Carmack to keep the same tic rate as the player's chaingun for the chaingunner's attack routine, only playtesting would've displayed the problems with that.

@@DinnerForkTongue I believe the chaingunner's lower RoF is actually because after every second shot it checks if it can still see its target, which takes 1 game tick. that (allegedly) causes every other shot to fire 1 tick later than it's supposed to. I could be wrong on this though

@@sebastiankulche Worse as in nastier. Chaingunners with this mod are EXTREMELY dangerous and top priority even above arch-viles.

@@sebastiankulche Nope. This bumps up their fire rate from 450-ish RPM straight up to 525, _just_ like the player's chaingun.

I use the Doom 3 chaingun sound for them. It's just the right amount of booming and vicious to mark them as the menace that they are.

You can open the wad file, edit the .deh file with notepad, and delete the "codepointer" part that refers the chaingunner's sound to the zombieman's fire. Then it'll sound like the chaingun again.

this had to be done. all this time and someone finally made it. you kill him and literally take the same gun as him. so what you shoot should sound just like what he was shooting

Maybe zombo chaingunner doesn't know how to operate it as cleanly as Doomguy. (yes, it's a stretch) But really, chaingunners with this RPM are nice and deadly if you leave them alone at all.

This section totally fucking looks like Map04 of Memento Mori, though, I don't remember a chaingunner being down there thought it was a hellknight.

This is Memento Mori MAP04: The Stand, right. I don't remember exactly what I did to bring the chaingunner there, maybe I slew the hell knight, spared a chaingunner and had him follow me downstairs.

i like the smooth animation, personnaly i prefer the vanilla sound but its nice to have, BUT WHY MAKE HIM EVEN DEADLIER BY MAKING HIM HAVE A STRAIGHT UP CHAINGUN

@@bigbruhtheorphan9070 I've played both wads with this add-on, Plutonia 1 multiple times and replaying 2 now. It really doesn't make that much difference if you prioritize the chaingunners as you should.

It's a double effect: makes him sound more powerful and masks the rate of fire. Me, I just use SNDINFO mods. The Doom 3 chaingun is perfect for these guys, esp with the boosted fire rate.

Rule 1: If you have to FIX any monster's firing rate for any reason, your source port sucks. Don't use it.
