Spoiler alert In The Answer, it is revealed that Nyx apocalypse-bringing power are activated via mass of the souls, a.k.a. humanity, that wish the world to end. It forms another entity called Erebus, and he need to touch Nyx to hasten the apocalypse. I think in the past people don't want world to dead and that's why Erebus won't reform and Nyx won't be activated
