Project Description
This is a new version of an old project that my Dad actually made for me when I was a little kid. You see this little box sitting on a counter or desktop and you can’t help but look to see what’s inside. I added some vintage looking artwork to make it even more enticing, and the Gunflint Designs branding lets you know that this is 100% authentic Unnecessary Walnut.

RU-vid hasn't sent me notifications for over a year. I've tried all my settings, no luck. I finally found out all the new videos, from the channels I'm subscribed to, appear in the "Subscriptions" link at the top left on my home screen (below "Home" and "Explore" in the top 'division' below the RU-vid Logo.

Even the "Subscriptions" can be very inconsistent if you are coming in from a "smart" device. So far I have resorted to periodically going through my subscribed channels to get past all the lack of notifications, and lack of valid videos showing up in the "Subscriptions" page. The issue, what ever it may be, has been going on for months, if not more.

@@jonathankinneydss9559 Yeah, I don't trust RU-vid anymore and I occasionally check down through my list of Content Creators ("Under the 'lower' Subscriptions" list. I only (so far) follow RU-vid on my desktop (prefer the 'big screen') and haven't found any new videos that haven't been listed in the "Subscriptions" link I listed in my original comment. I thought about mentioning this in the original comment, but since I hadn't found any missed videos, I didn't want to complicate the comment; not knowing of your experience with a "smart" device. Another reason for checking each subscribed creator: I have several creators that I really looked forward to watching that have stopped making new content or are only making content infrequently, so I don't want to miss any videos they publish. One of them took a hiatus of about a year, then made a few new videos and have not published anything new in quite a while.

I have my Subscriptions page bookmarked. So, when I click on my RU-vid bookmark, I get my Subscriptions page, not the YT homepage (which I seldom visit anyway).

Thanks Frank, it was too good to leave out! I knew that was going to be the weak part in the snake, so all the ones I made to sell have a nail embedded as a backbone to keep that from happening.

Those are really cool Mark. I’ll have to try making one for my 6 year old daughter. She keeps telling me that she wants a pet snake and that would be a perfect pet snake in my opinion lol.

we also had this as kids, but they where designed in such a way that the "snake" would touch the place where your finger is so it would actually "bite" you, not just scare you :D anyways, very nice and easy to follow tutorial for a nice gift for kids (and show to your wife you actually do useful things ;) )

My Dad's was that way too, definitely more of a surprise that way. I decided for the purposes of selling them, I didn't want any way it could be accused of hurting kids. If you build your own, all you would have to do is move the finger groove forward a bit.

Hey Mark, in the plans on your site is there a link to the files to cut the snake and the snake oil front on a laser? I have a laser in the shop but am not very good at the software yet to do it myself.

The plans don't include the files because I'm guessing most people won't have a laser, but I would be happy to send the files to you.

P.S. the covered copper wire your dad used is SO much smarter for anything that'll be used by a kid. A wooden snake will ALWAYS break! Plus the wire will add a bit of flex that will increase the "bite".

The wire is definitely more durable. Unless you already suspect the failure point and embed a nail into the wooden one to act as a robot spine in all the production versions.

@@GunflintDesigns Don't think even that would help, as the rigidness is what's ultimately going to cause any break-point in the snake itself. I think using a 4g/6g piece of copper wire, like your dad did is really the way to go for durability. I mean the design you did on RAY (wink wink) is brilliant, just not the best for a "toy". :)
