In a new documentary of Living Zoology film studio, you will see fascinating footage of venomous snakes and know more about the export of snakes from Africa. Matej Dolinay and his wife Zuzana Dolinay visited Uganda in the quest to find one of the most beautiful venomous snakes in the world - Gaboon vipers, Rhinoceros vipers, Bush vipers (Atheris squamigera and Atheris hispida), Jameson's mambas and Forest cobras. They also found the hybrid between Gaboon and Rhinoceros viper - gabino viper.

I think you hit the nail on the head as to why I’ve fallen in love with this channel right off the bat. I’m a 90’s kid and would spend hours glued to those documentaries. These docs definitely take me back to my childhood and yet teach me so many new things all at the same time. Hope this new generation loves it as much as I do.

@LivingZoology
@LivingZoology 5 лет назад
:D :D When we speak in Africa we use their accent and try to simplify every information :D But the Eastern European accent is also recognizable I think. And the narrator is Irish ;)
@LivingZoology
@LivingZoology 4 года назад
@@fritzdeuces Thank you for calling us dummy even though you know nothing about us.Again, you are taking things way too seriously, man. Our Eastern European accent is well recognizable and Britons are laughing at us a lot for that and what, should we be angry? When we come to remote villages in Africa where people barely speak English it helps a lot to simplify the sentences and speak in the accent which locals use. It helps both sides to understand each other. Please, write a story about us! All Africans who know us will never believe you, because they know who we are. Each time we come to Uganda we bring huge suitcases full of clothes for villagers, we educate people there and we even pay high school to one boy who wants to be a zoologist in the future. And we are friends with those people and nobody thinks about differences, we speak our accent, they speak a bit differently and there is no problem, we try to adapt and they also and it works. And you are serious with saying that there are no accents in Africa? Haha :D :D There are accents even in tiny countries like Czech Republic which has 10 million people. And we are in the same position as people in Uganda, English is not our first language. So naturally, we take some of our native language, Czech or Luganda or whatever into the pronunciation and it creates the accent. If you do not agree that what should we say about that...
@LivingZoology
@LivingZoology 4 года назад
@@fritzdeuces There is. Across different countries in Africa have similar pronunciation because their native languages are often from a similar group languages. Same like people from Russia, Slovakia, Czech Republic and others have similar accent when they speak English. So sorry, you are not right. Most of our friends have and with some we are in daily contact. We are very sorry but your anger and blaming us for something we are not is not on a right place here.

@LivingZoology

Thank you very much! Yes, it is a very complex topic, the snake hunters like snakes and their job and want just to earn some money. People from Europe, USA and Asia create this market.
@LivingZoology
@LivingZoology 4 года назад
@2.5in Bore Offset Thank you for your comment. Of course there people who are responsible and others who don't think about the origin of the animal they are buying. I think we are just trying to show this problematics to people so they start to think about it. We don't want to blame any country. For example, most of the snakes from Uganda go to Germany. So definitely there is a need to control the market but this film should make the actual buyers start to think differently. Because when there is no market, there will be no snakes for sold for export. Or there can be a market and export, but we need to think about the reintroduction of some animals back to their natural habitat and we need to conserve those habitats.

In my village nobody used to care the snakes,,,, find and kill them. Usually we didn’t hunted them in case if we saw snake that would be the end of the snakes. This documentary clicked somewhere in my brain and now I am feeling differently and started to feel the snakes,,,, what’s going on me right now is ...I can’t explain in words. I hated the snakes until now most be from the church which says serpents are evil but now I am completely changed man. Wow the hybrid gaboon viper aka Gambino was absolutely beautiful. Gaboons have the longest fangs of any venemous snake. Their fangs are so long, inches literally. Most Gaboon vipers are known to be docile and they have to feel very threatened to strike and bite. In North Carolina some kids found a snake in their garage and played with it for hours holding it and passing it around. When the family realized their kids were playing with a snake they called animal patrol and the snake was a damn Gaboon viper. The officers couldn't believe these kids were holding and playing with this snake for hours and didn't get bit. They would've almost certainly died. They never found out where the snake came from and how it got into a person's garage but almost certainly had to be someone's illegal pet that got loose or was set free.

Thank you for a good movie. Possibly you can encourage/help local people how to breed snakes. Alternatively a sustainable, very limited, permit based catch in the wild system will encourage conservation of habitat and snakes. For the latter EU, US and Asia needs to have a very strict import system.

@@LivingZoology it makes me angry that people are allowed to have them. Zoos of course can assist in the breeding etc, but im referring to these morons with big egos who think they know about snakes. These vipers need to be in their African homeland not some assholes cage
@LivingZoology
@LivingZoology 5 лет назад
@@owen7185 Yes, it is problematic that anybody can buy these snakes and then sometimes things like you described happen. And I don't know how it is in the USA, but in Europe, many people have these snakes illegally - they don't registrate themselves for keeping dangerous animals.

It's so sad that the snake numbers have declined so much. They said the first two days they did not find any snakes. Fifty years ago that would be impossible. Snakes in Uganda were very common, it would be easy to find ten or more every day. I bet that Mamba they caught was damaged due to rough treatment.

Because in my country Uganda when people see snakes they hit their heads and kill even. Even burn them claiming it's written in the bible that snakes are Satan

Looking at the rhinoceros viper, i would say its horns may work as camouflage. They look alot like a tiny tree limb or twig. Just my opinion. If anyone knows why, i would love to hear an explanation?

Cool video. Too bad folks didn’t get to see how fast a Gaboon Viper can strike. It’s absolutely unexpected and terrifyingly fast. They also have a bad habit of being able to lift themselves slightly off the ground and do a complete 180 if threatened. It’s not what you’d expect from a snake with such girth.

Beautiful gabinos! I totally agree that exports must be reduced. If an animal is only available wild caught, it shouldn't be purchased except by a zoo, preferably one intending to breed and supply accredited keepers, or to conduct scientific research.
@LivingZoology
@LivingZoology 3 года назад
Well said! The export needs to be regulated, otherwise we can loose some species in the wild.
