2:23 is this the first time people acknowledge a yelling conversation on anime? 😂 Dude let them have a whole conversation and responded like a normal person. Usually characters go into a pocket dimension for these conversations in anime.
2:27 Snake pressed R3 to lock on his opponent then pressed L2 to use Quickstep Skill moving leftward twice, in between, he also changed his weapon's attack mode. Nice move.
@@investlikeawarrior his hair and complexion is definitely different from vikings so I'm assuming he's more from far down south around the subcontinent area since his sword is also curved like they used to be down there rather then flat blades commonly used in Europe
@@lorel747 maybe is form nowdays poland or at some point either moved further south, southeast as mercenary or was part of the Varangian Guard in the Byzantine Empire
for those who dont understand snake's attack that won him the fight, he used the back of his sword (dull side of the blade) to strike gardar's wound that was sustained earlier. this caused gardar to be overcome with pain, effectively incapacitated.
Wow, way to be dicks, guys. I have a question though-- at what point was he injured? When he burned down his old master's home and left he didn't appear to be hurt, and when he arrived and ambushed Lizard, Badger and Fox I think he was already hurt. What happened in the interim?
This was an already injured Gardar. Not only that, he was hellbent on killing anyone in his path using adrenaline and rage with brute strength and wasn't thinking his strikes. Similar to what thorfinn was like with askellad and askellad toyed with thorfinns head so he can react and get in his head. If an "all aware" gardar faced snake and wasn't injured, snake would have been in trouble here. Gardar probably lived in same path where thorfinn could have been. Gardar was a regular folk, went to war, saw a lot of stuff, survived it all and turned into a slave and killed his masters because of one objective that is haunting him - to get back to his family.
Snake would have still won, he is one of best fighters in Vinland Saga, Gardar is a strong opponent, but no where near Snake level... And also he wasn't trying to kill Gardar.
Bruh.. snake was compared to askeladd who is stronger than average jomsviking since he was able to cut thors and survived longest against him and the average jomsviking negs gardar
@@Kraszerfr people are always acting like this show has some deep existential meaning. It’s really just thorfinn being bitched around and how being a coward is supposedly the real way of men.
everybodies saying 'oh if gardar wasnt injured he wouldve won' but honestly i think his dumb brute strength and lack of thinking was the only reason snake was on the ropes here. gardar clearly wasnt thinking about blocking at all, and thats the only reason snake took so long to strike, because he knew that he wouldve been cut down if he went at him normally because the sick man wasnt thinking about himself
I love that they capture the danger of certain injuries. Anime is very good at downplaying the results (Demon slayer). A fever was deadly and they thought it was supernatural 😅
At 0:10 Snake says in the English subtitles "If you do, I'll kill him", whereas when you watch the episode with French subtitles he does not threaten to kill Gardar but rather to cut off Arnheid's arm if she decides to take Gardar's hand. I wonder why that difference in translation was made.
It’s damn devious to think Gardar was right but at the same time he fucked up. Arnheid was his wife, turned into a slave (even sexual), his son was murdered for commercial reasons so you might think he’s fight for her and vengeance is totally justified, and it’s, but this is not an USA 90 movie in where a badass guy, rescue the girl killing hundreds of bad people. In this story there’s consequences, and most of the times they are really bad. Gardar has no army and his plan is really poor, by failing he doomed his wife and himself. This is where the importance of Thorfinn comes in, violence didn’t solve the problem or the injustice, it got worse with it.
Well, what do you do? Just let the injustice continue. They clearly were not going to let her go or talk it out. Nobody came to an understanding or compromised that's the problem
I love how Einar wanted Arnheid to be free so badly that he was willing to risk his life to make sure he she could run away with Gardar. All while knowing he wanted to be with her too. That’s real love. He wanted her to be happy even if it wasn’t with him. I can’t stand when some people call him a “simp” for it. It was bigger than him.
its not "real love", its a kind of love called "platonic love". He holds loving feelings for her but they are not sexual in nature, they might be somewhat romantic but they come from idealizing the person, not really getting to know her. Therefore he wants the best for her, he wants her to be happy above all else, even disregarding what she wants. In a way its a bit like brotherly love i guess? But more intense. But ye I agree with you in the regards that this is not really simping.
@@nodeberiaestaraqui93 Idk if he really was either. I haven’t read the manga and don’t plan too yet because of spoilers for the anime. I can see them being close friends at best but I always felt a subtle crush that he had on her but wasn’t really able to risk acting on as a slave. Regardless, I think it’s good writing that he wants her to be free above all else.
@@nodeberiaestaraqui93 I agree it’s likely platonic love but Idk I felt like he had a slight crush on her. In the little interactions they had it always seemed very pleasant and a little flustered on Einar’s part. Felt like them being slaves made him more reserved in that respect as well. I appreciate the writing of their relationship regardless though. Never hinted any jealousy from Einar when he found out she was married and just wanted her free and happy more than anything.
Anyone knows what is the song name appearing at the final part of episode 15 of season 2? (When they soldiers are searching for the escaped slave and Arnheid)
Oh I got a question: is the word they using to address snake “ brother” or does it hard translate to “ boss”. Calling your boss, “Boss” is a seemingly affectionate was of addressing them, so I was curious if they just go the whole mile
One of the reasons why Vinland saga is my favorite anime is because of how human the characters are. They don’t look or act like the typical weird ass anime character. The characters in the show are normal
Bro this is 1% Gardar, if Gardar hadn't been fighting for days on end with many injuries, lack of food, sleep and water, Gardar would have clapped that mans cheeks.
@@Dubstepper Hell nah. This was also 0.1% snake in that case lmfao. Snake is on a whole different level. He was the highest ranked soldier when he was working (I forgot where) and he is in a top 5 list of the strongest VS characters. He would destroy him no matter what. Snake Is just him
Yeah no snake always will take Gardar in a fight. Thorfinn said that snake was as strong as askeladd, Gardar may be buff and by all means a competent warrior, but snake was an elite soldier that put even jomsvikings to shame
Thorfinn: that's not what I'm trying to say,can you kill a man Powerful against us all,who thinks we can get in to a fight as adults just like that without any consequences, fighting as adults is far dangerous
I am a little concerned, his name is not gardar. I am Japanese and have seen the original Japanese version and his name was garzar, not gardar. Since the original Japanese version is garzar, it is a mystery why it is written as gardar in the translation.
I mean he kinda brought that upon himself by killing everyone even while he's injured but then again I've never been what he's been through so I'm not gonna say I would've acted any different
Nah Snake is top 6 strongest characters in the entire series. Gardar definitely isnt. Gardars best feats are defeating fodder soldiers. At best, Gardar is at the level of a Jomsviking the most skilled viking soldiers, Snake and Thorfinn are both skilled enough to effortlessly defeat Jomsvikings so they are a level above gardar.
i feel so bad for him , what worse pain a man can bear other than ur wife being taken away as a sex slave , my heart was crying for him , and i really mean it
This was a whole dbz fight with conversations and a relentless turn-based battle. Really loved how quickly you just go over that fight in the manga but here it just dragging on unnecessarily, just saying this should of been a quick one-two like thors vs askeladd, but anime battle go brrr i guess
@@Redotwo42 its sure isnt on the level of a 90s anime but for a sword fight theres not enough actual *exchanges* rather than showing off the animation of jumping and dodging everything, keep it brief but add some Weight to it. I just cant help but think there was alot of unnecessary movement that was added to fluff it out but thats the perfectionist inside that wants this anime to be perfect. theres room for improvement on that fight but im sure it was alright in the context of the episode
I feel conflicted when watching season 2. On one hand, I'm fascinated with Thorfinn's character development, but on the other hand the same development makes me go "ah the typical hippie pacifist again"
I think that’s the thing. He is generally unwilling to fight , but he had gained the maturity to know when to. When Thorfinn chooses to fight, it isn’t out of a reckless whim, but because he has no other option. Particularly as a slave, he never had the need to kill, because doing so wouldn’t solve any problems. Only getting himself killed
I know this is gonna be a controversial take but I really hate what the author did to thorfin. He went from a strong warrior who word do whatever was necessary to a man who is extremely strong willed in his beliefs but is willing to let everyone around him be walked apon and down trodden. Some may see it as growth because he’s peaceful. I see it as he’s now so broken he can’t even protect what he knows is right even when it’s right in front of him.
Generalized nonsense. Use concrete examples to prove your words. "willing to do anything necessary" - necessary for what? killing Askeladd? for revenge? so you are praising the fact that Thorfinn murdered countless innocent people to be able to duel Askeladd? Like wtf, are you just plain crazy? That's not mentioning the fact that by the time he had the skills necessary the reason he always failed to even land a blow was because *he didn't want to kill Askeladd anymore* - that was the whole point. Askeladd ended up raising him and becoming his second father figure. That's not even mentioning that his whole revenge against Askeladd duels idea was given to him by Askeladd himself - he took pity on the kid and gave him a reason to keep going, *while never mentioning the fact that he wasn't the one to order Thors' death, he was just a contractor, it was Floki* So all Thorfinn was in s1 was just a lost traumatized kid clinging to the only thing that gave his life meaning - earning another duel with Askeladd. Not even knowing who actually was to blame for his father's death. Just murdering innocents with the sole purpose to duel Askeladd once again - who he couldn't kill because then he would not know what to do with his life after. Rather pitiful existence you are praising here lmao.
Not sorry to say this to all you Vinland fans, but this is why this series sucks. Thorfinn is just a trash character. They keep writing him as if he will at some point have some character development, a good guy that keeps wondering whether to kill or not to kill, after he has learned all his life about the weight and responsiblity of having to take a life in order to survive. When will he grow a pair? He sucks as a main character. Thats why the first season was better, because the supporting cast carried him.
That's what Vinland Saga and the character of Thorfinn is about. And I prefer ten times more over the edgy cruel world of AOT and that genocider cuck of Eren.
The author is a pacifist and usually people in real life tend to prefer to resolve conflicts peacefully if they can. Plus, the story tends to test Thorfinn with regard to the oath of non-violence he swore. At least this show, unlike AOT, does not try to justify its protagonist's terrible choices.
Read way ahead in the manga if anyone else is thinking about it, it gets pretty awful and it doesn’t seem to know if it wants to tread the enlightenment line of violence and questioning existence or overcoming past regrets.. or just make pop culture reference jokes with absolutely awful characters writing and direction.. it’ll definitely be competing with demon slayer for shittiest ways manga turned out
