So glad I owned this hidden gem as a kid. It's brutally hard but the controls are tight as a drum and other kids would always marvel at how good the graphics were by NES standards. I finally beat that dam final foot as an adult and it felt like a demon of my childhood had finally been exorcised.
I love this channel and the deadpan humor is quite amusing. So would you kindly show us how to vanquish Bayou Billy, a very difficult game from my childhood that thwarted my every attempt to do so.
Took me forever to finally beat that one when I was a kid. I struggled for so long that once I did, I put it away and never thought about it again. It's been 30 years.
Loved the video, one of my absolute favorite NES games! You missed one secret, at the end of level 8, when you come out of the water, if you don't go to the door and instead head to the right, there's a carpet (like the ones in level 5), it'll take you back down and there's another swimming section with nothing but yellow pibbleys. There may also be an extra life, hard to remember.
there are 2 extra life, one just before entering the secret pool and another inside the pol which is invisible and it's located at one of the corners to the left.
Me and my sister used to play this and Bubble Bubble a lot back on the NES. To this day, I still don't know how I managed to actually beat this game as a kid!
I know some NES specifications, and this game is just a piece of art for NES. The diversity of levels, enemies, colors... The speed, the 3D effect and scrolling horizontally and vertically so smooth. Just perfect!
Mr. Yamauchi: “Ladies and gents, we need a game that will make 11 year old boys cry and instantly regret they rented it within 30 minutes of playing it, knowing they are stuck with it for 2 days. . . . .” 🧐🤔 Rare: “You rang Yamauchi San?”💀🤖☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
Hey! I really like your channel. I've watched most of your videos. I find I come back to your Maniac Mansion analysis the most. I used to rent Maniac Mansion a lot as a kid, but I never once got a single ending...(my go-to team was Dave, Bernard, & Razor). I also like re-watching your Faxanadu & Dragon Warrior videos...both games fascinated me, but they seemed too complicated & intimidating when I was younger. Anyway, I wanted to say "Thank-You" for your MegaMan 3 walk-through. It's been a long time since I've played MM3, but your review inspired me to give it another shot. My order to defeating the bosses was 1.Magnet 2.Hard 3.Top 4.Shadow 5.Spark 6.Snake 7.Gemini 8.Needle...so it was interesting to try a different (and sometimes) easier order. I didn't know about the "password" that gives you 9 Energy Tanks at the start, or the trick to get the Rush Jet after you get Shadow Blade, so those were two immensely helpful tips! Usually, after I defeated the 8 robot bosses, I'd turn the game off because I didn't know what MM3 weapons to use on the MM2 Dark Robots & I was too lazy to put in the effort to find out. So, Thank- You for doing all the work. I'm really looking forward to when you do a MegaMan4 walk-through. I've only played the bare minimum of MM4, simply because I'm too lazy to figure out which weapons work best on each boss, but the game always looked like so much fun. This may sound weird, but I could listen to you talk all day. Your voice isn't in my face or too loud, you don't make lame jokes, you don't yell F*** every five seconds. If you get this SNL Mike Myers Coffee Talk skit reference/joke, "His voice is like buttah!" That's everything I wanted to say. I think your channel's great and I'll keep watching if you keep playing.
When I would go for beating this game, I didn’t warp, I would farm extra lives and continues in the early stages to have enough lives to finish the final ice stages.
Oh boy, do I ever have memories of this one. I adored this game! But as a kid, I could not beat the final boss. I knew that I'd have an easier time if I could hit him faster, so I invested some money in a turbo controller. But, for some reason, the game didn't like that... it just made Rattle open his mouth and not stick his tongue out at all! So I called the Nintendo Counselors at Nintendo Power... twice... and they basically just told me to get good. I wrote a letter to the counselors, and again they basically just told me to get good. When I finally managed to "get good" enough to make it to the final boss for the umpteenth time and actually defeat him, I felt so accomplished that I cried.
At level 8, if you jump at the end to the carpet, then you can get into the bonus with only yellow fish. Life and time will be given there, but even if you lean against one of the thorns, you can find another life bugged in the wall
I played it all the time at my babysitter’s house as a really young kid. I never questioned how freaking weird this game was until I heard him using all the in-game terminology
Nice work on this. I still have this game and played it a lot, but couldn’t remember how far I progressed through it. I was pretty sure I hadn’t finished it. After watching it I now know I was stuck on level 10.
Snake, Rattle N Roll was one of the best games I owned on the NES. My childhood self couldn’t get past World 6 even though he made about a bajillion attempts. It had a character and a playfulness that stood out in the early 90s. Great vid!
Lvl 1. What about that clock on 5:37. How do you reach it? Lvl 5. How do get that tongue extension on 15:32? Lvl 6. You jump to lvl 4 on 19:20 I assume. Is there more of that level or just that warp zone area?
Another great video! 👋👋👋 How about you take us through Shadowgate, Uninvited or my fav, DeJa Vu? All are pretty tricky to beat but not impossible. Amazing soundtracks on all 3 as well. "Peoria streets" from DeJa Vu is still my #1 fav NES track.
On the 3D games front I'm looking forward to Solstice showing up here. That was one heck of a puzzle/platformer and I recall very few people beating it.
I loved this game but it was just brutally difficult, yet again here you are making it look like a breeze. Sometimes I think you're a game branded Terminator.
27:10 you can also go to the right (fall) onto a carpet and enter the lake where you can 2 extra lives. let the fish run out (die) and the area will respawn you with another 2 extra lives. repeat this to get your lives maxed out.
Are you going to do, Final Fantasy for the NES. It's one tough RPG. I think it cool that you have your Golden retriever looking like he plays the NES games.
In level 8, there is a bonus at the end. To get there you need to jump on the carpet from where the last door. There will be life, hours and a bonus where only yellow
Awesome, I never got past the last level (the one right before the boss), so I didn't know how close I was to the end! And I really didn't know about the extra level on the Mega Drive version. Your videos are the best! Little kid me would've eaten this up, but adult me is rolling in nostalgia! Thanks again!
This is pretty nitpicky but i think it would be cool if instead of going right into a straight up walkthrough after the history of the game, there was a section of just tips and tricks, so that people who want to play it without a step by step guide can try to beat it blind... (for this i suppose its not as big but vids for rpgs and stuff it somewhat defeats the purpose of the game, i dunno)
This was one of those games I played over at a friends house and within an hour it would lead to us beating the crap out of each other in real life because we suck at games XD
I also like the fact that he even takes the time to know the enemies names there’s some games I never knew the names of some of the enemies didn’t even know everything had names nibly pibly lol!
This took me back (even though I’m currently playing). I had forgotten that I actually beat the game until I saw you play. You have this down nicely tho 🥰💕
I had a lot of obscure games for the NES as a kid and this was one of them! The game is so difficult. I think I only ever got to the first ice stage? Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
A few secrets that you didn't mention: Level 3: you can actually make the jump for the warp without the speed up crank, it is precise, for some reason I've always done it without it. Level 5: the trick of juming over the spines is very good for skiping a section, but on the normal rute there is an aditional extra life under a lid. *Level 6: I've been playing this game for years and I didn't have any idea about the warp in here! thanks you! Level 8: Before entering the first pool you can go around it and take a tongue extension behind the pool to the left. After the final pool, before taking the exit you can go back to the lower floor using a magic carpet that spawns over the clift to the right, if you do there is an aditional extra life and clock before entering an extra pool. On the extra pool every nibbley pibbley is yellow so there are a lot of extra points in there if someone cares about points and on the same pool, on the left side of the pool at the very corner to the bottom right there is an invisible extra life and as far as I know this is the only invisible extra life in the game.
Yeah. If your not rapidly smashing the living crap out of the attack button it just will not die. Kinda think about that metal golden tree on level 7 where it's bouncing up and down in the one spot right before the 4 colored ball runs. Smash the living crap out of it. Just killed it on a save state run. Will practice it a few more times to get it done then trying a legit run through. Like have to beat the ever living crap out of the controller just to do any daamge. F the developers for this boss. Total BS still.
Seemed easier to beat it after the second rock on the west side of the map. After watching a longplay of the genesis version even with rapid hits the boss seems to take more hits. I wonder if the changed it to more hits in the rare replay version of this game. I know they changed the part in battletoads where you couldn't beat the NES north american version of the itsakadozie level with two players because the PAL version worked but on the 60 HZ North american release there was an issus so they went into the code and fixed it. Hmmmm.
I could never finish this even though it was one of my most played NES games. I made it all the way to the Bigfoot at the top of the mountain but I was tired by that point... I couldn't mash the button fast enough. I had kinda figured he was generating health too. Great video man! Also, if you could please do Cobra Triangle in the future, it would be much appreciated. That one is brutal!
I agree with others I love this channel it’s my childhood all over when games brought back good memories keep it up as long as your putting out vids you’ll have me watching em and dropping a like no matter the game! Some of these games I never played or played alittle bit not enough to beat em so I like to see the stages and endings some games were so hard I didn’t get very far
I love how you take the time to learn the warps and names. With your deadpan humor, add some Dad Jokes. Like if you face a Skeleton ask why they Skeleton could not fight you?.. It did not have the guts
Wonderful choice! Snake Rattle 'n Roll currently holds the record for me personally as it took me 30 years to finally take down the ice foot on the moon! It is super hard for sure but at the same time, it's such a wonderful video game! I grew up renting this one as a kid and the 2-player co-op was a lot of fun as well. Rare developed some of the toughest games ever made but at least they are fun, right? LOVE the music in Snake Rattle 'n Roll too. David Wise might be the GOAT as far as composers go!
!!! This video DOES NOT show ALL SECRETS of this game !!! At the Snake Lakes level, there are three extra lives in the last lake. On the eighth level, after jumping out of the water just before the exit, you need to go not through the door, but in the opposite direction. You will see that a magic carpet has appeared that you need to go down. Below, on an island in the middle of the surface of the last lake, there will be a clock, and on the surface of the lake, there will be extra life. Take the clock and jump into the lake so you can take that extra life. In the last lake itself, two extra lives have now appeared, but they are not visible. To get them, go around the perimeter of the lake bottom. One lies in the lower left corner, and the second is in the upper middle, next to the stakes. But that's not all! If already in this last lake with two invisible extra lives you do not go to the exit but die because time is running out, then you will again find yourself in this lake with all the fish are reborn and both invisible extra lives appear AGAIN! This way you can constantly lose one life as time runs out and in return gain two more lives over and over and over again!
I had this game as a kid it was so fun but so hard. I played it two days ago and it’s crazy hard. Level 10 end Drove me mad !!!! I couldn’t beat the boss! You beat in seconds!!! ??!?
I have a personal grudge against this game. I have used Game Genie Cheat codes on this game (infinite lives/time) and I *STILL* couldn't beat the final boss! (Also I love how after losing a life on the Bonus Stage, the video devolved in to just sheer HOPE that they could clear this insane game series...)
Stupid comment here: I once had a friend who always referred to his manhood as his "snake" so every time I hear a comment like "crushing your snake" or having enough "weight on your snake" I can't help but think of that strange kid. Sheesh. On the flipside, I never played this game. Looks pretty fun, though!
@@bransonbenson9520 ~ You have no idea. There is a reason why I wrote "had" a friend rather than "have" a friend. I don't think I've ever met a guy so obsessed with his junk in my life. My estimation: overcompensation. He probably has a beer gut and rides a loud Harley now.
