GG. Snake archers vs Minotaur: spaghetti and meat ball. 😀

I did some tests with shield units to see how good they are at blocking arrows and spears in a frontal assault. Shield bearers did the best as I expected. 2nd place were the Knights, who can also take a few arrows to their body but they are the most expensive unit with a shield. 3rd place was technically the Hay Balers, but it is important to note that since the last patch they will get knocked down by a few archers, even if all arrows are blocked by the hay. They are NOT immune to projectiles, they just need to be hit in the head, arms, or feet. 4th place was the Hoplite, who for some reason did better at blocking spears than arrows (I did 20 tests with each and they blocked twice as many spears). 5th place was a tie between the Protector and Stoners believe it or not! You would think Protectors would be higher, but they are more easily knocked off balance which allowed for multiple arrows to strike them. An important distinction between Protectors (the Tribal unit btw) and Shield Bearers is that although Shield Bearers are the better defender, Protectors do more damage and will kick Shield Bearer's butts in a fight! You'd also not think as Stoners as not being a shield unit, but the boulder they carry covers a sizeable portion of their body and will catch those arrows and spears without knocking the stoner down. Stoners aren't that great overall, as they have a slow reload time and although their projectile does more damage than an arrow or spear, it will collide with other boulders thrown by stoners which can make having multiple stoners a bad idea. By far the worst shield unit at blocking projectiles in my test was the Brawler, who failed to block arrows in all 20 archer tests and only blocked spears in 2 out of 20 spearthrower tests. I didn't include Zeus or Snake Archers as ranged units in the test because their projectiles aren't very accurate, but their projectiles can be blocked as well. Ice Archers are much the same as Archers in terms of the purpose of this test so I didn't use them. Ice Archers do less damage than regular archers and their arrows won't freeze a target if it is caught in a shield. I haven't tested Artemis, but my guess is that only a knight would stand a chance if both are on the front lines (and artemis should never realistically be on the front line!). But the best strategy against Artemis is to just use beserkers to quickly rush her since she doesn't have much HP.

You're meant to use them as distractions OR use them in huge numbers to rip enemies apart

I have a battle suggestion. Blitz, you could choose one unit and put like 20 of them in one map. Then you let them battle some other units. And that is where the fun comes in. Your first units progress. You let them fight against different enemies but only with the amount of units which survived the previous battle. It would be like a standoff or a last stand kind of battle. And with that you could put a bunch of units in a map and let them fight waves of enemies until they are all defeated. I dont know if this makes sense, the way I explained it, but it would be fun nonetheless

No so what you have to do is you have a few snake archers to distract a unit (like a king, knight, or executioner) and you have archers or something to kill the unit

I would love to see more about the minoutar, or the vampires, or the head-butters, all for the same reason. These units are great for breaking thru enemy lines with their faces. But without backup, which one has the most bang for it's buck?

The reason he can't kill a clubber is because the clubber is less easily distracted

I think the snake is better for crowd control as it makes all the units in a formation target it and causes them to accidentally kill each other while also doing slight damage.

Blitz I always find using just one snake archer is really good at taking out units hiding behind other units. (i.e. archers, spear throwers, priests, ballistae and catapults (eventually)) but I agree that they need a big buff

So snake archers are really good against large groups of troops they get stuck on each other trying to get to the snake while a catapult or something kills the masses at least I find that as the best use of the snake archer but they have some more versatility Side note: valkerys are amazing against catapults they mess up there aim from your base troops and on the Viking map the catapult is always in range so they aren't much use
