All I had to hear was it changed you life. Purchased this right away. Not sure if 850 bucks was a good deal but the damage is done.Tired of firing off a parts cannon for people that dont have the funds to throw away! Knowledge is power and peace in your life!!!

yeah this tool is a monster this with a solus pro you are almost unstoppable. saves tons of time and no one makes any thing like it and imo separates snap on from the rest

Go to solus ultra and you'll be spoiled, heck my ultra was stolen and picked up Verdict d7 and now I'm even more spoiled, added 2 gb stick of ram from older laptop and it flies, hoping when paid off I can install new ssd hard drive and see even better response from it, pretty much My SO scanner pro up with atleast 13.2 up is a beast, after fellow co worker had issues with autel bricking, he has launch built maxgo from Marco but still limited as yet. SO still has lead in functionality and service. And resale value.

just bought a vantage ultra off the ebay ver 15.4. what you do and eric does on south main has helped me discard wrong turns and get to the problem. cant wait to experiment and solve real problems with my new scope. btw im 57 and have been professionally repairing cars since 1990. old dog -new tricks. my shop owner cant even get his brain around a scope-YET

I bought a used Vantage pro from my Snap-On dealer a few months ago as a result of exposure to this channel. Was originally going to go for the MODIS, but watching your brother James with his Vantage/Solus Pro combo, convinced me that separate tools, although a bit cumbersome, would be a better fit for me. So now I use a laptop based Delphi scantool (bluetooth VCI with coloured status LEDS, so I don`t need to move the laptop from my toolbox, which makes it ultra convenient, massive coverage, bi-directional controls, coding and live data etc) coupled to my Vantage Pro for front door testing, and a Launch CRP 129 for that "quick read/wipe". It`s what works for me, and everything listed came to less than 2 grand. About the same as a used updated MODIS. Apart from missing a couple of channels on the scope (who ever uses 4 anyway) I have gained in the form of the superb Delphi CARS software, and a very capable little Launch unit which can do steering angle resets and EPB windbacks. Along with my Power probe Hook, Power probe 3, Multimeter and loadpro test leads form the core of my diagnostic kit. You really do need to mix and match dependant upon your workload I guess. Looking forward to the remainder of this training series

Yes, in short, but that's not much of an ask. Can bus, or any of the other communication protocols, are pretty easy to trace. Most of the time, simply the presence of a square wave signal is enough to confirm communication. Occasionally you'll use 2 channels to see if the square wave is in synch, maybe after a botched repair where one of the twisted pair is shorter than the other, or someone has tapped into a can bus wire, which is introducing interference into the circuit. So I'm not sure exactly what you mean in detail. It's certainly good enough for the tasks I've exampled. Hope this helps...

I'm a close second. Still have my original vantage. I'm trying to find the last update for it. Was told by snap on that I might find on e bay the final software update that would put me to the year of. 2007. Regardless. Great tool at your finger tips.

I also believe its best to have scope separate from a scan tool so you can watch both sides i have a zues with the built in scope and all guided component test like a vantage but i recently lucked up and came across a vantage pro at a local pawn shop barried underneath stuff still had original screen protector on it but was just the vantage pro its self and one charger and no leads only updated to 2003 they didnt even know how to get it to turn on i bought it for 50$ and never use my Zeus scope and if i need a guide compent test for a newer vehicle i use the zues to get the info to set the vantage up and for known good wave forms and save them on newer common test so its on the vantage and if i fry it compared to the zues 50$ doesnt hurt compared to the thousands im still spending on my zues these tools have helped me establish myself in this field at a young age im 24 and theres alot i dont know but im confient i can figure it out and stand behind my diagnosis with this tool and being a flate rate tech you want the car fixed the first time cause cause come backs dont pay and customers qnd employers lose confidence in a techs recommendation and repairs thats and customers pay daignostic fees so for me to troubleshoot and give them the tight answer the first time and there is a lot of missed out money for techs that troubleshoot and diag i rather make money in way of troubleshooting and diagnostics than slinging engines my whole life i wish i had an opportunity to work beside someone like scanner danner that appreciates and prides there self in proper diagnostic there really aint many tech that can do that effectively thanks scanner danner for pushing your point and always teaching me something new to keep me up to date with todays diagnostics 🚗🧠💯👍

This tool is no longer supported. It did have updates every 2 years from memory. Whatever it's updated to, that would be it. No further updates would be available

I love snap on but just can't justify spending 10k on the verus. I currently use the autel maxidas but would like to upgrade. Is there anything out there that's in the 5k range that's worth it?

Hey man, I also use the Autel MaxiDas DS708 as my primary scanner...awesome tool! Just got lucky on Ebay and picked up a Snap-On Modis Elite (no Euro) for $1300, primarily for the component database of the Vantage Pro. Pre-OBDII adapters and 4-channel scope/DMM are a huge bonus too. Paired up with the Autel, should make for a powerful diagnostic combo that covers 99% of the cars out there!

Then it would cost a lot more :) IMO it's actually more versatile to have two separate tools. The Autel sucks at graphing anything at all like live stream PIDs. But the OEM model coverage is great, plus touch screen and fast boot time. Guess there is no perfect scan tool out there so we have to mix and match!

I would guess same crap covered by more useless bells and whistles lol...the Chinese can make a good product, but often the lack of effort in polishing up the basic firmware is really frustrating! The OWON SDS6062 2-channel scope comes to mind...great portable scope but you can't really save or review the waveforms...Aargh!

Hey, Paul. I am told that only the Modis Edge (2 channel lab scope) and the Verus Edge have both a scanner and a lab scope, and I am also said if you don't keep up with updates you may not be able to do functional tests. Is that true? Also,do they come with keys?

Nope, you've been told wrong. Every single Modis and Verus platforms have both scope and scan tool built into one unit and the updates are needed for newer systems. You do not need to keep updating it unless you want to. You do not lose functions by not keeping it updated, you just will not be able to communicate with the newer systems other than global OBDII. (no bi-directional controls in global OBDII)

please excuse my ignorance but for a modern(contemporary) tech what tool does he need to be a great tech? a good scanner? and a Scope like the one in this video? because ive heard that using scopes is pretty old school?

When you`re talking about components that have been about for over 40 years now (transistors, diodes IC`s etc, ) it all starts to look a bit old school. It`s the modern day implementation of those components, and the pressures upon a technician to get it right first time, that leads to the need to use a scope to accurately assess the health of a component. There is no better tool for the job. And as such, without one, and good system understanding, you`ll never be a "great" technician, because you will be working partially informed

Hey ScannerDanner, Great Video!! I have a Vantage Pro but it is missing the CF CARD , could I use any other regular CF CARD like a SanDisk Ultra 16GB CF Memory Card or would it have to be a Special CF card that only works for this model ? Thanks!

No Snap on has discontinued even having cards on shelf. And once you install a card its registered to that scope and scope is updated to that card, honestly either look for higher version mt2400, OR simply look around for older vantage pro then pay for up dates. Now on mt2400 updates much past Version 7.0 ONLY

Ooppss closed before finished. Past version 5.0 update you do not get any more options just newer info database, main reason mine is NOT updated to 8.0. When I updated mine it was bought at yardsale, came 3.0, updated to 5.0 then got 7.0 then 2 yrs later I bought vantage pro, greatest purchase I made, both work but my 2400 has screen bleeds. Main reason I bought newer and V Pro has better screen and does better on ign and its better to print from.

Other then the component info & tests, unless I’m missing something else, I’m not really seeing the advantage a Vantage Pro has over a good, inexpensive oscilloscope & live data scanner combo. Especially given the cost of a Vantage Pro and similar tools. Modern digital oscilloscopes are pretty light weight, inexpensive & small now a days (some as small as a deck of cards) and have much better sample rate, bandwidth, resolution & accuracy then the Vantage Pro and Pico scopes. Not to mention more scope features (e.g. trigger modes, math functions etc).

Gregory May, on big disadvantage is that it runs Windows XP. Its a disadvantage not just because it is Windows and a M$ product, but because it is an OS that is no longer supported by Microsoft. So there goes your technical support & updates. Also, its not the company you have to worry about going away. They can’t support every product they ever made forever. So Snap-On will eventually stop supporting the Vantage Pro like they have for other older scopes/scanners. Its inevitable and called planned obsolescence. I would recommend a Rigol DS1102E 100MHz 2 channel scope (which I have) or the newer DS1054Z 50MHz 4 channel scope. Both are available for around $400, light weight, small (12”x6"x5”) and beat the pants off the Vantage Pro’s scope and Pico scopes in features, performance & accuracy. As for scanners, there are tons of scanners available today for around $100 that will do live data. Some even wirelessly to your phone.

Pet Rock's Garage DS1102 doesn't look like proper automotive oscilloscope... What is wrong with xp not being updated? Sorry I don't know much about computers... It sounds like you know more than ScannerDanner... Do you? Seriously!

Gregory May, I'm not sure what you mean by an 'automotive oscilloscope'. Vantage Pro's scope feature is just a (slow) digital oscilloscope. Nothing 'automotive' about it other then its marketed towards mechanics. Windows XP is a 15 year old OS that is no longer supported by Microsoft. Which means that they will not be updating it to fix any bugs or security issues (which there are many) or providing technical support for it. It is a very buggy OS with lots of well documented security flaws. Since the Vantage Pro can connect to the internet (if memory serves), you could easily get a virus on it that could reek havoc on your $10k tool. Think of the Vantage Pro as a durable touch screen laptop with scope probe ports, since that is effectively what it is. I don't know if i know more then ScannerDanner. He's a very smart guy & our areas of expertise are different. I'm in the computer industry and work on cars as a hobby. He is a professional automotive diagnostician/teacher. Two different fields.

@@ScannerDanner p0444 purge Control Valve I was watching the video how to test a solenoid and power or ground side switch anyway 07 caliber purge valve when car is running both wires are 12.36v shut the car off in matter of seconds goes down to 10.90 to 11v both control and return Engine off swich on connector unplug evap retur line is 9.17v (wierd) and control side is 12.16v and the valve doesn't open please help my emissions test is by the end of May please

You need to be careful buying a Verus on ebay. If its stolen or has a snapon lien on it, you wont be able to get any kind of product support or updates

Mr.Danner, what do u think of purchasing a used Verus on ebay? Is it a safe buy? The pricing for a new Verus is just thru the roof. I also looked into the Modis Ultra on ebay as well. Is the Modis Ultra equal in effect to the Verus? You've truly sold me on scope usage and how it can make u a much more accurate diag tech, I saw that the Modis Ultra has that built in with it as well.

I bought a used verus on eBay last year I was very nervous sending someone I don't know 3200.00 dollars I talked to the guy several time before i bought it got the serial number from him and called Snap On to verify that is wasn't stolen It is the best tool I have ever bought I have no regrets and if you are serious about diagnostics you wont be either. Ebay is pretty good at protecting the buyers to. I thought about getting a cheaper tool but I know I would have regretted it. There was quit a few times I was glad I had the 4 channel scope. Now if you ask my wife she was pissed I spent that much money on a tool and i am not a full time mechanic. I have been doing jobs now that 3 and 4 garages have charged hundreds of dollars to try to fix but unable to find the problem, The verus is Great

Verus is good but look closer at verus d10, or verdict d7, both are tablet based, check overcome snap on diagnostic tool forum on how to update ram and hard drives to ssd, solid state hard drive, or have computer buddy help you. Verus CAN be updated and wireless module purchased but let me say in going from my stolen solus ultra touch screen to Verdict d7 was light years ahead of game. And in buying from eBay went up from 13.2 to 13.4, intent was to get back inside loyalty period, another cool feature d7 and d10 is wireless capable from m2 scope module so you can run m2 on verus/d10 thru blue tooth as long as soft ware is new enough. Like after 12.4 possibly. Another thing if it says on eBay it's subscription based you pay each month and it has to have wireless connection pretty much every day to verify license from snap on. This idea let places such as pep boys and larger shops to pay as they go on software, no yearly updates as they go in as it boots, but no pay, no play. With yearly purchased updates you don't have to have it updated ever, its just stuck in last update.
