Snapped Timing Chain, Ford Mondeo Mk5 2L Diesel Well, if anything reasonably interesting turns up like a broken timing chain i try to film it for what use it may be to someone else. stevescarsales.co.uk stevescarsa...
The camshafts are suposed to twist as a failsafe, thats what i learned working at Peugeot... We always changed the camshafts after having these issues... :)
One reason I love these videos is I've spent so much time and spent so many Miles in Mondeo's, over ten years, you know from personal experience how reliable they are because the vehicle's I was using had at least 100,000 miles on them some over 200,000 miles one even 300,000 miles.
Brilliant Alan you are spoiling us, yes I do like seeing the damage and i love seeing the master (that's you) repairing it, have you stopped commenting because people are annoying you for advice.
Morning Alan. That was a really good technical video on the mondingo 👍🏻 Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 she’ll spin up and spark into life first turn lol 😆 Have a nice Sunday relaxing ready for part two 🤣 Cheers Stevie 😎
Looking forward to the next video Alan and I'm glad it's picking up again . I think you could easily get 300k with a bit of care like checking fluids weekly I think it would avoid engine failure
Another brilliant Video Alan Always a pleasure to see Monica, I can't believe the camera was facing towards her arse and you had got the camera underexposed 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ Keep up the good work Have a good weekend....
Hi Alan my mate had a camshaft which I think was from a Peugeot that he couldn't get to run after a camchain failure when he asked about it turned out the loabs could all move independently which he was able to verify by putting it next to another he thought it was a solid forged component but apparently not. Like you say if you don't know you would never work it out
Great learn about the cams and how to line them up. As there is no cam locking tool, to check the back of the cams line up. With the front timing marks. Will you be doing a oil change before starting the engine?
Amazing knowledge and great video (as always). Alan, could you please be so kind and give part numbers of the cam chain and chain tensioner? Regards from Poland.
Another fantastic video alan pleasure to watch. Far more interesting than the bloody news. I have a focus st tdci with this dw10 engine in . Only got 35k on her. I'll look after it and keep her serviced and I hoping she'll be a good one! Keep those videos coming next time I have a trip to Royston I may just call in and see you haha!!
@@alan4x will do I go to Bassingbourn then head bk to a1 so would be on way I guess. I learn loads of videos I'm working for a hire company and look after centurion traffic transit dropside chassis cabs you'll have probably seen em down there Adblue faults turbos egr failed wet belts you name it they keep me busy but I learn a bit about diagnostics of you if you've not heard of forscan it's a dealer standard Ford software which is very good next best thing to IDS etis it tell you everything which may be useful to you having a fleet of these motors
Just had the chain replaced on my 2016 galaxy(mk5 mondeo in a biggger body) so same 2.0 tdci engine, had chain, tensioner cambelt water pump, all gaskets, and seals(a lot needed) also had to replace the leak off pipes, and a fuel pipe ,all genuine ford parts including labour £1400 to do job,but still feel it was worth the investment although a lot of money,by the way plastic guide had just gone thru to the metal,so caught it in time so no other damage 👍👍
We do like to see the destruction on those engines and the reasoning behind it ! Thanks for the great vid! By the way will the car not come up with a message on the dash for low oil pressure and engine issues straight after the event?
It must really be frustrating Alan when you've taken time and done such a good job on an engine, only for it to go back to the idiot that caused this carnage which could have been avoided if the person had a brain.
Nice one Alan , your a top man that knows his stuff.....👍 It's a pity the drivers aren't as sharp when it comes to tapping and banging noises coming from the front end as they drive along........😡 Cheers mate , looking forward to the conclusion....👍
If you take Japanese engines, believe me you will not find a tiny part of this French bs on them. Now I am having mk4 with snapped cambelt should be a detective to work on it. And it was pretty noisy before.
I thought timing chains were the best thing ever compared to cambelts !.I've actually seen more timing chain failures lately than belts and modern belts have a longer service service life than chains !
Hi Alan, could you please help me with a problem I have with my mk4 titanium x auto. When under load I have a noise like a valve is passing and the rev counter drops up and down. It sounds like its in-between gears and sometimes the sound is really bad. I have contacted several garages, 2 of them Ford main dealers and nobody can tell me what this noise is. I can't be the only one that's had ghis fault. Have you come across this? Thanks for any help. Please keep the vloggs coming, they're great. Clive.
What can I salvage from a seized engine? My Ford focus mk3 has a snapped cambelt. The starter motor clunk's but car doesn't start, after driving at 70mph and hearing a noise before "Bang" it snapped.
Hi Alan. Is it possible to inspect the crankshaft from under a 1.8 TDCI ford engine. Engine will not be removed from the car, rather all work performed from underneath the car. Car is a 2010 6sp Smax? Thanks.
Allen How lucky is this car it must have a oil change and can you tell me what is average millage these engine will go for what millage has a engine lasted until scraped it would be interested to know great video Phil in stoke
hi phil, not scrapped one yet unless it blew up but these engines if looked after should outlive the car, from 200k miles onwards you may need to change timing chain and tensioner but the engines should do much much more,,we have some on 350k miles and still good
Currently have a mk4 1.8 tdci and thinking of getting a mk5 1.6 petrol or a 2.0 petrol. Which one should i go for? I am looking for reliablility not for a sporty car
Hi Alan I have a ford smax tdci mk1 2ltr with a low voltage obd code p02e2 and alot of oil in my air intake and its got a growling noise coming from my air intake induction box at back of engine that connects to the turbo any ideas what this could be mate thnks micky b
i would get your turbo impeller checked out as sounds like the bearing is worn and causing excessive movement in your turbo impeller which can put excess oil into your intake pipe and worse cause the engine to run on its own oil which may destroy the engine
Alan, as you work on the Mk5’s quite a lot I have a question for you about my MK6 fiesta ZS TDCI regarding the gearbox. Do you have any contact information so I could send in my full question, Regards
Love your videos. However my only down is that you don't reply to comments 😩. On another video about headlight I asked if you can confirm the part number/description of all the bulbs, e.g low beam H7 etc. I wanted to convert all my bulbs to led but require the bulb numbers. If you can kindly respond I will be much obliged. Thanks.
This seems to be a recurring issue at around 250K miles. Considering its less ball ache to prevent the problem at either the 200K timing belt change or separately at 250K for you to do the chain and tensioner change?
Its more work but as it can have much more severe cosequences with the shells going through lack of oil. Mind you they should be good for another 250k miles on the back of it...
canon 90d with canon 10-18 lens for walking around and canon 80d with sigma 18-35 for most filming as the 1.8 aperture gives me plenty of brightness, then my apple iPhone 6s for the places i cant fit other cameras lol
Like i said before…. The Man,beast,LEGEND😉 I love the way he curse 😅 holly sh*t I have mk3 and mk4 mondeo’s amazing cars Thank You Alan for shearing your knowledge God bless You
Really good videos. These engines are in my opinion, needlessly complicated. In the past, cams were driven by duplex chains and lasted very well. Cost cutting meant that simplex chains were used and were not as good. I have never been a fan of cam belts. A cheapening of engine design. The best set up was gear driven cams as used by Volvo and early Ford 1.6 Diesels.I have owned and driven taxis since the 90's and have repaired Taxis since the 70's and some drivers will drive them until they are seized up. The majority of your cars are private hire, so it grates on me that you describe then as Taxis, which they are not. Only Hackney Carriages are Taxis.
The Hackney carriage is very much a London thing. Out in the shires (Steve's taxi's are based in rural Cambridgeshire) taxi's tend very much to be private hire. In the larger city's the London system of "hail and ride" works well but you will find 90% of these drivers will also be on a company circuit for private hire work
It's the cambelt that goes around the crank and a singular top pulley, that only drives the exhaust cam. The timing chain is behind the cambelt and it's there to provide drive for the inlet cam. I don't think I've done a very good job explaining but you can see what I'm talking about at 27:22
How do I contact you pal, I've got an issue with my mk5 mondeo my garage can't or refuses to fix so I'm going to have to try and do it myself as I can't afford to scrap 9k worth of car cheers
@Alan Howatt much appreciated m8 🙏I'm getting a low fuel pressure reading and the car will not start,I've changed the fuel filter which didn't work,I've stumbled across your video since my last message about the failed spring in the high pressure fuel pump so I think my only option is to strip it myself, get to that part and see if that's the issue before buying a new fuel pump,I was panicking because my local garage said the car was scrap because of this issue and I can not afford to scrap it,I've had it for 2 years and it's only done 77000 miles, it's the 1.6 duratorq engine really appreciate the reply thanks 🙌
@@08dangler hi. I am not familiar with the 1.6 engine as we only have 2litrs engines so not sure if your fuel pump is the same but if it is I would definitely check out that spring and I have also come across the gear on the back of the pump can snap off
