Snapping Elbow Syndrome is fairly uncommon but understanding how to recognize it is very important. There a several causes of "Snapping Elbow" and here are a few...
▶ The Ulnar Nerve coming out of the groove.
▶ The medial fibers of the triceps snapping over the medial epicondyle.
▶ A synovial fold getting impinged in the joint.
▶ or even a loose body in the joint.
👉 Snapping elbow is common in throwing athletes and people who do a lot of repetitive elbow flexion and extension. Quite common in the weight lifting population.
❓❓ How do you treat it? Start with modification of activities that reproduce the snapping. Sometimes controlling the inflammation alone can help. Try taping to stabilize. Be sure to see an orthopedic surgeon to get a good diagnosis and if the pain, tingling and loss of function get worse then surgery may be an option.

Has anyone else noticed that the snapping sensation of the ulnar nerve gets worse when the triceps become exhausted in the situations of bench press, shoulder press or other pressing exercises that require the force by triceps ? Additionally, this symptom seems to worsen where the elbow feel an acute pinched pain with triceps dips.

I have exactly the same issue in my left elbow. This pain is highest for vertical pushing and less for horizontal pushing (like Bench presses). 2 solutions I have found are #1 not fully locking out the joints while doing push exercises #2 not bringing the bar close to touching the chest during the lowering part.

Glad you made this video. Had a young patient that presented with this, but unilaterally. End range extension seemed to cause what felt like the ulnar nerve click at the cubital tunnel. Attempts at offloading the area with emphasis on proximal scapula control didn’t seem to help. Tried K tape to no avail. Also attempted MET and heavy resisted supination to attempt to alter humeroulnar alignment. Also STM to triceps. Nothing made a difference. I appreciate your approach at seeking further consult. Based on my experience from a year and a half ago, suffering from this issue, I suggest trying bench press if there’s no snapping during the press. I usually plan my triceps workout to use weights that are about 7 or 8 out of 10 in difficulty for me to complete one set. That’s the optimal weight to keep the nerve in place. You should stop if you feel it snapping.

I’ve had a grinding/snapping/crackling elbow for 11 months now. I think I did something to it doing dips or some tricep move. I’ve taken time off exercise. It only grinds when I go from a fully straightened arm to a slight bend. Anyone have any ideas what it could be or how to fix it? I’ve also had KT tape on it and an elbow brace.

Hi Julie, This noise could come from inner joint inflammation to tendon inflammation to tendons or nerves rubbing over bone. If it hasn't improved over 11 months you should see an orthopedic specialist (surgeon, PT, OT, etc...)

Noise in a joint is not something you should worry about especially if there is no pain associated with it
