im so glad we are finally getting weekly uploads from the remaining empire central tunes, absolutely loving watching the audience interact and see the whole crew play which also helps me notice small details that i mightve missed! fantastic job.
Shaun apparently suffered a stroke and is recovering. GroundUP Music and the band are respecting his family's wish for privacy, and so we haven't had much in terms of updates.
What an ensemble of incredible musical talents. Snarky Puppy successfully blends jazz, rock, classical, fusion, shades of hip hop, all in a big band with a horn section, and three guitars.
@@joshjones9749 They already have scored a Bond film... The film just hasn't been produced yet. I have a list of their suitable songs and locations and sets noted for each. I think you could write a bond film to an existing Snarky soundtrack!
My new favorite tune. Just cam from driving from work, this popped out in my feed and suddenly I hardly couldn´t steer anymore. Evrey part of my body was grooving like mad! Made it home alive. Great - I repeat - GREAT MUSIC! Thx folks for doing that stuff, highly appreachiated! Greetings from Munich!
When you know that two of your three drummers have to accompany your three percussionists with extra percussion to spice things up that's what you get. Tasty.
Everyone in Snarky Puppy is obviously very talented, but what I think makes them extra special is that they can groove together like no other band. It’s so cool that they can all bring something to the table that culminates into something new.
As satisfying it is to see the musicians enjoying the tune, the unseen crew behind the sound and visuals is stellar! Keep it up, fantastic contribution!
For most of the song, the MAJORITY of the band is nodding on the front beat while 2 of the drummers and a percussionist nod on the back beat... yet everyones timing is perfect!
This is one of my favourite tracks from Empire Central (and there are several), but all this time I thought the solo was a guitar! It's Mike Maher on trumpet! Amazing stuff!
Coming every weak waiting for these videos. Always want to see which drummer is playing each part. Cant wait for my favorite songs: Free Fall, Fuel City and HONIARA!!
Its soo nice to see the remaining clips. I've been enjoying Empire Central like crazy, and watching the live recording is an even better experience. Btw props to Bob for the riff starting at 1:40, it's soooo damn good! Pure funk. Thanks for you music guys
Oh my. What a great cycle, thanks Bob! When the solo came in, I was thinking, what instrument is that?? Maz! And that intermezzo riff played by Mark will be a great guitar warmup.
Really it's my favorite album of Snarky. So groovy, so funky, the only default is that Cory Henry isnt here but all of them are so on point with their craft. And all of that in 2 weeks recording 4 songs a day. Beast !!
Jameson is the perfect choice to lead off this song. There's something to his playing that feels both groovy and stuttered. Finds cool spaces to use and which ones to leave open. Shaun Martin get better.
I’m assuming that’s Mr Lanzetti establishing the killer groove. Nicely done! Killer trumpet solo from Mr Maz too! Seeing all the guitars reminds me of being at the NTSU music school in the ‘80s. There were 9 Jazz “Lab” bands and also about 6 “reading” bands for folks that needed to build their reading chops. By the time you got to the first or second reading band they’d run out of trombone players so they’d fill the trombone chairs with guitar players. How ‘bout we call the guitars in Snarky the trombone section! ;^)
does anyone know if this is a real concert recording (1 take per track), or do they record multiple takes? And where can I get tickets for the next session? 😄
What time signatures is this in? I had a hard time figuring it out in the opening. I’m hearing that Mr. Martin had a stroke. Just listened to some of his solo stuff yesterday. Hoping for a full and speedy recovery.
I understand that Shawn Martin’s family has requested privacy but I still don’t understand why us fans who love this man can not get any updates on his health.
It was really no secret... just followed them closely on social media... they announced the sale to the public, then you just had to jump on them quick. I'm so stoked to see that they have now released two videos (this one and "Keep It On Your Mind") from the night I was there, and I can see myself there in the audience! Brings back great memories of a wonderful musical experience.
@@emersonhovey4588 thanks for the insight and glad you were able to enjoy! The videos are done as well as the performances - what an overall vibe! Definitely getting to the next one.
lol… I think you might be referring to me…. pretty sure that was my “omg… this is so funky, it’s just stanky” look on my face. What a great night that was… didn’t want it to end!
bending the 6th to the tonic is about exiting as this gets. I'm at the edge of patience of seeing more musicians perfromang then in the mix - lol. If you are patitient enough, the composition tries to amaze, but not quite. This performance is great. This key center and lack of composition in changing keys through out the tune, ALMOST outweighs a musician take on the whole activity. Let this video serve as a guide that rhythm is what the people dig. And, with all those players, get some composition. Pentatonic limited. Music Thorey and Composition Matter especiallyl with the history of this band. I it special to do C minor and bore me with solos that aren't flat five no sharp 9? - Peace and best wishes with all that gear and people filmed but NOT IN THE MIX. Again, the composition is boring and seems not important other than the Zappa thing minor 3rd to tonic the 7th and unresollved. lol.
This is the only track on the whole album that I don't like, to the point of skipping it every time. That section between 3:15 and 3:25 simply hurts my ears - it's so off :(
