I've been driving a tow truck for bout 3 months now I love it I learn something every day meet cool ppl some r Dicks but most r good ppl happy to see me Cus there broke down on the side of the street lol
I do this job in the UK and love every minute of it. Every recovery is different and a challenge. I watched this clip and I have to say you did a good job. The only thing I would different is use straps on the wheels when the vehicle is on but I guess you were only going a short distance. Nice work my friend.
Hey not a big deal.. this vids are a few years old Ive learned alot more sence I made these vids years ago im a very good at what I do.. but thank you for the comment and feedback from everyone,, Im am by no means saying im the best or I know everything I have no problem learning from anyone and I will also teach anyone everything I know,, Im thinking about making videos again too..
Not the way I would do it, but...it worked. You young bucks like laying on your back, and actually working....thats a front wheel drive. Just back up to it...on an angle, like you are, and back the bed under the back tires, then lift the car up with the bed, hook it, and turn the wheel in the opposite directions....the car will....align...then...rip it up and go
Damn, that's cool! I've been in the body shop/car repair industry for decades....And I've only seen the vehicles dropped off, never picked up. That's was cool! Good job!
here's two cents worth. the cable (wire rope) is the heart of the flatbed and I see guys abusing the cable with improper use of the snatch block all too often. when you extend the cable to respool it, you attach the drag load directly behind the truck, ten4? well, when using the snatch block, it should be attached to the anchor with a leader chain, that keeps the cable spooling from the centerline of the bed. it takes some thinking and finesse but it is beneficial for the cable. pulling the cable with the block off to one side is detrimental. I ditto Mr. DeWitt. I try to scoop every vehicle I haul. It's not just for my ease of hook up but it affords me the angular control while winching the vehicle so the bridle doesn't press air dams upward. granted, most of them are flexible enough but I would rather not distort them. rarely do you have one tow that is just like another. presumably, you had to full tilt the car and nudge it down the bed at your drop location then walk out the truck.
Dont mean to talk down or tell you how to do your job but not only is that winch not supposed to be holding the weight of the car as you drive it around on the flatbed but its pretty unsafe and unprofessional not to be using the 4 point tie down......
4 point tie down was the very first thing i learned, and was on the test. Not sure why this kid did it the worst way possible. Somewhere he must have seen the right way before making a video
I agree, being a rollback operator myself. I do sub contracting here in the capital city of my state, for the state. Part of that contract is street cleaning duty. On street cleaning you generally have about 10-12 rollbacks following around 2 police cars and we tow entire streets all day long to make way for the street cleaning equipment to come through. It is common practice to only use winch on the front and j hook on the back. Over the 7 years I have been doing this sub contracting work for the state I have probably seen no short of 20,000 cars towed this way and never have I seen an instance of a car falling off a bed or what have you. THAT BEING SAID, if you have the time to strap it properly, you always should.
Well you got, as we say and It is an example of towing with a snatch block. I would have done it the way Harry dewitt says also. I only use a snatch block for only 2 main reasons (with an occasional exception in some rare circumstance)1) pulling out and off side of road when my truck and vehicle are at a 90* angle to each other, or very close to 90. The other reason is to increase my winch strength by 2x if neded for heavy load/pulling. All in all, a good job though.
It seems like you did this video so you could show how to use a snatch, Im sure five out of ten tow drivers would do it a different way. You should have show how to use it all the way without having to reposition the truck, that way people watching learn the way it is meant to be used.
Sorry bruh, but there are much easier ways to load at that angle. That was way too much work for that situation. Just sayin. You'll get it , Thanks for doing a dangerous unappreciated job !
