Drag rope and toggle stick essential. But if having to improvise cut the knee 2/3 round, but not the the sinew, snap the leg so it hangs off the sinew and cut down the hock.. Makes a "T" handle.

Good job mate, but you make it so much harder for your self for the first deer. Don't drag by the legs but the head, make yourself a handle in the skin just at the back of the head at the start of the neck and maybe remove the head to cut down the weight. 2nd tip you should always have some rope or string in your bag you never know when you need it. And if you don't use the fiber from the bush (like wine or grass). 3rd tip try to get yourself a butcher hook and get that in the V of the lower jaw that will give you more control when dragging them out. Hope you try my tips and would love to know if that helped you in your recovery 😊 👌. Great job, love your work (both of you)
