I've never thought the team was annoyed with Liz. I think their looks at Marty when he says he's going to ask her to see Janek with him are meant to imply a stormy relationship. Like "You're asking *Liz*? Didn't she dump you? Are you crazy?" Something along those lines.

Sneakers was a little bit ahead of its time. I think if it had been made just a few years later, after the internet exploded in popularity and computer technology wasn't a niche subject, more people would have come out to see this movie. It's one of my favorites, but almost no one I mention it to has ever seen it. It's a shame, because it's such a great movie, with an absolutely stellar cast. It is indeed dated, however, most glaringly in the scene with the acoustic coupler modem, and the fact that their primary method of accessing networks was still through actual phone lines (Karl's "little black book"), no different than Marty and Cos were doing in 1969.

You're right! --- the tech didn't really change much from the 60s scene to the 90s scenes. lol I am sure there were some upgrades, but in general nothing like we have today. And the phones... yep. Excellent movie suggestion here, don't ya think?? ;)

I’m glad to see this flick start to find a new audience. I first saw this in a computer class in the late 90s and loved it. Even then it was dated, but the concepts are timeless.

lol computer class in the 90s. What would that even look like compared to today? ;) Probably a lot like this movie does today. I am glad it is making the rounds of viewers now, too. Thanks for watching!!!

When Cosmo takes him into the little glass room, they sit down on an actual Cray Supercomputer, one of the most powerful at that time (early 90s). All of the Crays were very stylishly designed, with the seat and accent lighting and made a statement in an office like that one does.

This movie is totally underrated. It's a bit like Oceans Eleven in tone and idea, but executed differently (and both being wonderful). The cast is incredible in this (and Oceans 11). It's just a very fun ride. Just firing your reaction up, hope you enjoy it! :)
@okchristina

Yep --- you nailed the Ocean's 11 comparison as you probably discovered not long into the reaction!!!! I really LOVE Ocean's 11 and therefore I also loved this one, too. And The Game. All fun stuff!!!!!

Another excellent reaction - I am going through your past ones, and hitting the ones I like. Great stuff. You mentioned something about them not wanting Liz involved, but I always thought of their backward look as "Your going down that road again?". In my head canon, Bish and Liz were together off and on in the past, but because of his past (which she was the one person he confided in) they could never really be together if she wanted to live a legal and legitimate life. I think this is why it really hit her when he said the govt found him, and he could get his name back. Anyway, I think the guys just thought that he was reopening old wounds. I love your music references, too. I am a purely amateur singer in community choirs and the like, and while I have never been trained, I do like music and like to catch things small things and hear music musings. Thank you for pointing stuff like that out.

Hello, I find it quite surprising that you didn't appreciate the score as much as I, and so many others did, especially given your deep knowledge of classical composers. The hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, sometimes whimsical, when paired with the stunning cinematography, creates an exquisite piece of art in film. Fun Fact: Essential to the sound of the soundtrack is the soprano saxophone, which just happened to be performed by the celebrated jazz musician Branford Marsalis from The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
@okchristina
@okchristina 5 месяцев назад
I'm surprised, as well! I think it reminded me more of other soundtracks/pieces than seeming innovative, but that is of no fault of its own. It's just my current musical knowledge. The dramatic theme sounded like Arvo Part. The jazz themes sounded like Monsters Inc. Those came before and after this score was composed, respectively. Again, I fully admit it is my own bias. I would need to listen to it more on its own to be able to appreciate it. Even the sax solos didn't seem to dominate. It seemed more like mood music -- which is weird to say about a Marsalis!! I think I just need to go back and listen again without the movie. Thanks!

The building that Cosmo got arrested in is the same building as the clock tower in Back To The Future. It might be why Robert Redford's character is named Marty. Great Scott! This is heavy. Also the bank that they rob in the beginning of the movie is the same bank that is at the end of a movie called the Hot Rock. Which is another cute movie Robert Redford is in.

Thank you. There is another movie from about this time, also espionage adjacent, "Little Nikita" (1988) starring River Phoenix and Sidney Poitier. Trivia: There are several easily discoverable anecdotes about the making of the movie that make it clear the cast and crew loved making this gem.

I'll have to look up that movie. Thank you as always. And awwww I love it when you hear about how the cast got along during filming. It's always a disappointment to hear there were difficulties within the group.

Just happened to cross your reaction channel this evening. Sneakers is one of my favorite movies that almost nobody has heard of despite the all-star cast. Mary McDonell was in Battlestar Galactica and dances with wolves, she was also in Grand canyon. She is a tremendous, tremendous actress. You're right, women are not portrayed well in most movies. Here are a few of my favorites where they are. The first two mommy movies, Rachel Weise, Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Kate, Jennifer Garner in peppermint, Angelina Jolie in Salt, Jody Fisher in anything, Jennifer Lawrence in anything, and probably the most impressive performance by an actress, hailee Steinfeld in the remake of True grit. She was in a movie with Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon and she outshine them like an actual star. A super giant. That was one of the most impressive acting performances I've ever seen. I love it when a reaction video actually pays attention and gets all the things I enjoyed about the movie. You earned a new subscribe tonight. Just an FYI, I depend on entertainment value like you provide because I was disabled 3 and 1/2 years ago. By COVID. It ruined me and I am bored out of my mind most of the time. But getting to see somebody enjoy a film. That means a lot to me boosts my day. I'll try to watch when you watch a historical type movie as well, I am a historian, an economist and an expert on the Constitution. And if you're looking for great soundtracks, these are the ones I listen to. When I was in college, as a historian I had to read a lot of books. I had to write a lot of papers. So a good instrumental soundtrack became my go-to in the background to keep me focused. These are the ones I listen to the most, the man from snowy river, dances with wolves, braveheart, gladiator and the best soundtrack I have ever heard, it literally stirs my soul; the last of the Mohicans with Daniel Day-Lewis.

So glad you found the channel! And glad I could hit all the agreeable points -- sometimes it is to each their own! So, in other words, I don't annoy you too much lol ;) Sorry to hear about the long covid. It is real and it is tough. Glad these reactions can be here to help you manage. Dances with Wolves and Gladiator are both on the channel now. I agree about the soundtracks! I haven't seen any of the other movies you mentioned. I also like The Abyss and Back to the Future soundtracks.

@@okchristina No, you don't annoy me at all. I found you to be insightful, thoughtful, and very intelligent. Conversation. If you ever need any suggestions, let's just say I've watched a lot of movies and television. I look forward to watching some more of your reactions, I've just been watching a lot of basketball lately. Hoping to start writing again. You're definitely right, sneakers is one of those movies that almost no one seems to know about, but it's an all-star cast. It's like if no one knew about oceans 11 or something. Anyway, have a wonderful evening and thank you.

@@okchristina oh, and you're right about the abyss. Great soundtrack extraordinary film. The part that always gets me the most is when she has to drown for him to get her back to the base. But also the scene where his ring saves his life. It's personal to me because of my divorce.

This is a great, underrated movie, with an all-star cast that, as far as I'm concerned, is every bit as good as Ocean's Eleven. The scene with Whistler driver is classic! The first Ben Kingsley movie I ever saw was Gandhi (1982), which is now one of my favorite movies. I've never seen any reactors do a reaction to it, but I'd love to see one some day. For another good heist movie, check out Tower Heist (2011), with Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, and Matthew Broderick.

Bravissimo!!! That was a FABULOUS recording all the way to the very last note. String quartet playing is a big part of my musical career so seeing it up close like this was very gripping. I could listen to that violist for days. I was not familiar with this piece until I saw this movie. It is very similar to the Dvorak American quartet, which is one of my faves also. Thanks for the link!

If you are getting out of your car on the interstate looking for some plants to eat then you deserve to die from eating a poisonous flower. The world doesnt need those kinds of people. To answer one of some of your questions. Yes the some stuff you see is real tech. I don't know if you have heard of a show called 'Myth Busters' but they take urban myths and scenes from movies and test them to see if it's really possible to do. In one episode they tested some of security stuff. I think they showed that it was possible to make it hot to beat the heat sensors, they showed that you could beat fingerprint sensors, and I think the showed you could beat voice locks. I'm not sure. I know they tested a lot of movie devices and see if they could override them like in those movies. Some of the stuff was even easier to beat than movie version. For example a person just holding up a a fluffy quilt would let you walk past a motion and heat sensor. Haha.

LOLOLOL Stopping and looking at plants along the interstate!! Too funny. I can promise I did not do that LOLOL But for reals (nerd alert) Oleander is not just poisonous, it's deadly. And not just the flowers, the leaves and stems. Like it only takes 2-3 leaves eaten to kill a large animal like a small horse. It's even toxic to burn it. And it's planted as a giant hedge as a divider between the lanes of the interstates!!! For miles!!! I will have to look for the Myth Busters associated with this movie! Thanks!!
