This game, when it was released to the market, the specialized media of the moment praised the soundtrack and the sound effects comparing it with a NEO GEO game. The quality of this Tournament fighters was overwhelming.
+John V Actually there was a was to make it TMNT Tournament Fighters :Turbo Edition. There was a code to unlock 2 new turbo speed levels and both end bosses as playable characters.
+thecowboy2 there's an easy trick i've learned a while ago to unlock everything easily. Turn the console on with the game inserted, reset it, turn it off again, and turn it on again and everything should be unlocked.
Underrated game hurt by the fact it only was available for SNES (no arcade) and the TMNT were at the end of their popularity, it truly deserves to be considered alongside the best fighting games of the era.
My family rented this once when I was a kid. Having watched Longplays of the NES & Genesis versions beforehand, I can now truly appreciate this version as the best of the three.
You mean the Konami that now releases games that are two thirds complete and won't allow their powerhouse creators finish an awesome project? I mean, I thought that was the dream of all AAA production companies :p
I wish I had this game back in the day. It features a lot of the characters and design concepts from the Archie comics TMNT Adventures book, which was pretty much my favorite version of the Turtles ever. They should have had Cryin' Hound in this this!
I remember getting so pissed at this game that I legit threw it out of the window and let it sit for a few weeks. Still worked after that too cause back then Nintendo made quality products.
There's been lots of experiments on RU-vid where people left out NES and Gameboy cartridges in the show for days, and ever ran over them with a car, and they still worked, so there's truth in that statement.
This game features original 4 turtles from the previous games, as well as other fighters. It is based on the 1987 TMNT animated series, being released as the show's 7th season. The game is very much in the tradition of the Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter series, pitting you against opponents one at a time. Some fighters (besides the turtles) will be familiar, such as the Rat King, or even Shredder (now called "Cyber-Shredder" here), these 10 characters are also available: War - A monstrous purple creature with big claws, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures comics published by Archie. The game version of the character is said to be an alien in the game's Tournament mode as well as a mutant by the Turtles in the game's story mode. Aska - A ninja girl seeking to open her own dojo. Aska is an original character (created by Takemasa Miyoshi) who makes her first and only appearance in the franchise. She is inspired by Mitsu from the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, and was originally intended to be Mitsu, but her character was renamed after the film's poor reception. Wingnut - A humanoid, alien bat who appeared in several issues of the Archie Comics series, as well as in an episode of the animated series. Chrome Dome - An android from the animated series, he was initially created by Shredder to destroy the Turtles. Armaggon - A mutant shark from the future. Also from the Archie Comics series. The bosses are: Rat King - A deranged man who cast away his humanity and considers himself a rat even though he has not been mutated. Karai - The leader of the Foot Clan in Japan. She only appeared in the original comics by Mirage Studios at the time of the game's release. Though even people familiar with the turtles will see differences in them. They can now, for example, do moves involving projectiles, such as "fireballs". The game's modes include a story mode, where you can only pick one of the turtles and go on fighting opponents in order to rescue April and Splinter, and a tournament mode, where you fight only for the fame and money.
I was visiting with my family in Nebraska in 1995 and my cousin had this game. I sat down to play it and made it all the way to Karai. I tried what I could, but I just couldn't beat her. 25 years have passed since then and I never made it that far again. This game still remains one of the toughest fighting games that I have ever played.
I remembered playing this for the first time back in 2005 on PC at home being 18 years old. I never knew this existed for snes until I played it. Great times and yes it does fly by quickly. Enjoy life 🙂
Classic memories from this game I remember rented this from blockbuster back in 1994 or 1995 and my mom ended up getting this for me still owned it by this very day CLASSIC SNES GAME
I was listening to the ost and felt like something was missing, came here because I needed the sounds of the actual fight gameplay with the music. This scratched a very specific itch, thank you long plays and players
5yr old me could never beat my dad at this game but I loved it to death. The most I’ve ever bonded with my dad when I was a kid was when I was getting destroyed by him.
+Tetsu Seishen i did if i recall when i first rented the game from blockbuster back in 1994 when i was 8 years old now im 30 years i used to think karai was a guy and had no idea who karai was and didnt know that karai actully comes from the original tmnt 80s comics at the time when i first played the game back then
@Roderick Brown: I knew she was a chick, albeit a very manly-looking one, when I first encountered her. In the Genesis/Mega Drive version of the game, she looks WAY more feminine, dainty, and petite in contrast to the masculine Amazon in the Super NES version.
This was one of the games during Blockbuster Video's video game competition (early 1990's). I remember practicing on this, and I discovered there were three different tracks the game could put you on. Two of them were relatively easy, but the third one was tough as nails. I got the hard track during the competition, and needless to say I didn't do well.
So I guess we'll never play that Julius Belmont arc or that game Wingnut was playing from his time.... Guess Marty MCFly's adventure had more severe consequences than we thought! XD Seriously,though....Game's excellent.Great graphics, music and playablilty.
The game was great awesome controls and not too hard to master either. I just wish they added Rocksteady,Beepop, and Krang into the mix of people you could fight.
I spent so much money renting this that I should've bought it. I was pretty good with Armageddon and Donatello. If they remaster this, I am so buying it as a grown-ass man!
I own both SNES and GEN versions because of being able to play as and fight against all the different non-Turtle characters. Weird storyline in the SNES version, but even though I grew up mostly playing GEN, I’d give the edge to the SNES version.
I bought a gamebox 128gb with all these multi-plat roms (Atari, master system, Sega, snes, nes, neo geo, pce etc) for the ps classic. I sure hope this game is on it, very underrated.
if street fighter had a crossover with this, maybe they would have invented the Jiant sphyco crusher then.Even other slew of super moves,sf stayed with mostly the same template before changing sprites for some time.
Vastly superior to the Genesis version, and it’s obvious almost immediately. It’s interesting to note, however, that both versions feature a very different roster of characters, enticing fans to buy both games.
Dont forget about the nes version. There were 3 versions of this game. Each with different extra characters. While I'd say this game takes the story and presentation categories, Genesis version wins the better soundtrack. Though I personally think the genesis voice clips would have fit better in this version. Especially the announcer.
The "Noh Stage" looks like something out of a snk fighting game, like kof or Fatal Fury . The stage where you fought that big guy is a little reminiscent of the stage show from xmen vs street fighter.
I am a little upset. Splinter told me to continue my training and for years I have been. Since the 6th grade when I played this. When are the new TMNT games coming?
