Snow damage!! Don’t make this mistake… 

I'm also in North Idaho. I saw this video with the screen grab of the damaged hay shelter and went down to check on my DIY structures; a hay feeder shelter and a closed-in pen for our goats. One cattle panel bent over in a hoop held in place by t-posts and covered with a heavy duty tarp serves for the hay feeder. The buckling shelter pen is two pasture panels (like you have on yours) on the sides held in place by t-posts, osb walls over those to keep goats from trying to climb and osb on the back for a hard wall. Cattle panels bent over and secured in place for the arch roof then covered by two heavy duty tarps. Cattle panel gate in front to get into the bucklings' pen. Both structures cost me under $250, and weathered very well through our recent weather.

Yup. Life up in Idaho. the fun never ends. I’m not up at my cabin for a good part of the Winter so I had to hire folks to keep the snow cleared off my roof.

You want single bale hay structures for the pasture ? Try A-frames.

In 1996 and I think it was 2008 too , we got just got dumped with snow . In 96 the main supporting beam broke on our house broke because we just couldn’t keep the snow off of the roof, it was coming so fast . Best of Luck .

This snow storm is a pretty good size one. Looks like we will get over a foot.

I feel ya man Im working on my off-grid getaway in northern Quebec and believe me the snow is mad and often between -30 to - 50 Celsius the cold is what gets to me.... Just started a a channel to share my journey... Spring is on the way.

Extreme Central N Ga Mtns is -15°... That s extreme for us but we were ready! Hoping our Power stays on but I have a Wood Heater to heat with! I worry about my Great Grandbabies! I got tired of buying tarps to cover my hay, the sun would just destroy them, and by winter they were full of holes. not even one season. I started buying 6 mil greenhouse film from amazon. Just about the same cost as a tarp, and i am going on 3 seasons now with very little sign of deterioration. If i dont need it for hay, i can use it for a hoophouse to grow tomatoes in these short north idaho summers.

This is turning into 2016 winter for us in idaho
