Another helpful hint. You don't try to get out of heavy snow when the sun is out and it is soft and melting, you go when it is dark late at night when it gets cold again and the snow is hard and packs good.. If the snow is deep and wet and mushy you will slide and get stuck.. That is what I have learned from 10 years of living in snow country. So just get out of there late at night and get closer to the main road and hunker down there till morning..

I wrote a poem a long time ago and I called it The Calling... and a couple of lines in it go: The sound of snow softens in my ears... and the Purity of Life becomes my Life Fountain... It embraces and engulfs me... I become it's willing captive ... and, I'm free.... Don't be so anxious about nothing... because you are being blessed to be able to be there and not in the middle of some of the chaos that others are finding themselves in... these days... allow yourself to be blessed ... and you are a blessing to many, by just being there... There's no better feeling than listening to the wind blow all night whilst warm and comfortable and waking up to a foot or so of snow on the van in the morning.

Hi Brian, down the road on 260 is another grocery store. It's called Mogollon Market, the owners are pretty nice. I usually go there for groceries when I'm at our cabin in Overgaard. Thank you for showing everyone the beauty of the Rim Country. Blessings to you and Kelly.

I lived in Flagstaff for 6 years and always enjoyed the time after a storm. The good news is that it will dissipate quickly in the dry climate, so don’t work too hard trying to make it go away. Maybe a bigger tank for the diesel heater should be in the cards... Great video! Stay warm.

Ah yes, the fine line between freaking out and enjoying the surroundings. I have felt that feeling many times on the road in my van. It is a good feeling to exercise while on the road. Hi Brain. The old guy here, showed you my wood cravings in Quartzsite. I use a telescope leader to clean our solar panels on my van and Lynn's Toyota rv. It's easy to store and a lot safer thin climbing up on your track like you did. I thought o - no. Anyway have fun my friend playing in the snow.

Brian, if I had your "home" I would put a rack on the cab of the van to keep extra survival gear. Things like a can or two of extra diesel for the heater, snow chains and maybe one of those expanding ladders. Just something to think about.

I just came in from shoveling snow off the driveway to watch this. Snow is not bad if you don't have to drive in it. Sounds like you learned how to deal with it, snow chains, extra heater fuel, extra food. As long as you have a warm quilt and a source of unfrozen water you can last a long time.

Wonderful video Easy climbing on the roof so slippery and a long way from medical I broke an ankle in 2007 on a icy trail just like that by my self made a crutch and luckily a snowmobiler came by and rescued me. all the way to a surgery table. Love those small pine tree towns Be well

Really enjoyed this video, Brian. One thing is PLEASE PLEASE be careful. You scared me to death on top of your van when you said it was slippery. I've been living in Mo where we get snow for about 21 years now. A few years back I slipped on ice and it happened SO FAST you don't even know it's happening. My feet went up in the air and I landed on the back of my head first, then my back. I could NOT get up. I just layed there freezing. Luckily a man in a truck drove by and saw me laying on the ice and helped me up. I had been screaming for my daughter inside but she could not hear me. If you fall, and can't get up, it could be death so please be careful, and even then, things can happen. Do you have your phone on you when you do that so you could call for help? Or get one of those things old people have where it notifies someone in an emergency. Where you were at looked absolutely beautiful!!! All the best to you.

Your remind me of the Donner Party at Donner Lake. They weren't stuck either because the couldn't move through the snow. I would have just hunkered down an boondocked in Heber until the storm was over. I love your curry cooking. An other great video.

Cool video! Must be a double-edged sword having the little camper to cozy up in... but a little intimidating being so isolated with the unknown! At least nobody can say your life is boring.

Brian, if you had continued east on 260 through Heber, you would come into Overgaard, AZ. There is a larger Post Office with better hours and more stores. Heber and Overgaard are very close together. We have a cabin just over the hill from the Heber Market.

You have to shovel your driveway walkways and more if you own a home. Brian time to can that tank for the heater and step up to an underbody 10gal tank.

Amazing views of the snow. I’d be a lil concerned too but I know you are going to make it! Just be careful on that roof. Maybe come up with a way to raise one side to help? Sure don’t want to fall out there. I really enjoyed the video Brian!

Another refreshing video. Two suggestions: 1) Using a standard store milk-carton/egg crate (not flimsy from walmart) as your footstool at rear of van. Doubles as grocery or firewood carrier. 2) Get large, thoroughly DRY, 8"-10" rocks. Heat them on or near your evening fire. Use a metal pail to place on top of your stove at night to radiate heat all night. Also, wrap a smaller stone in a towel and place inside your sleeping bag.

Great job in the snow but even more impressive for a San Diego guy!! I am sure you have thought of this but I keep a 2.5 gallon gas can with diesel and another one with gas for my generators. I wrote "D's" all over one so I don't get them mixed up. I then keep them in a tote with a latching lid and I have never had any smells at all. Also what a great video. Thanks again for sharing.

Now 68 thinking as I watched you of a lesson learned when I was about 16-17. My best friend and I were in his uncle's VW Dune buggy broke down in the middle of the desert. I was concerned about our ability to get back to his uncle's as the heat of the day was increasing. My friend says let's take a walk look around. I thought he was crazy after all we were stuck. We took our walk and when we returned he was able to get the buggy running all was well. Over they years that example has helped me by stepping away from the problem and coming back to it with a clear mind and often an easy answer. I think you did well with your approach of concern yet enjoying yourself and the beauty surrounding you. Anxiety is real but so is often the ability to manage it. Thanks for the nice video and a reminder to cease the day.

The great thing this time of year is that the sun has so much warmth to it it melts the snow better then in the cold dark of winter! I always carry a week or two of freeze dried meals in case I get stuck.

So glad you are enjoying Arizona. We have lived here for almost 30 years. No other place I'd rather be. We are near Prescott. We got about four inches at our place. Don't clear the snow, it will be gone by the end of the weekend.

Thanks for the video Brian! I’m in northern Minnesota right now. It was -32° this morning and -36° yesterday. It did warm up to +6° in the afternoon. I spend two weeks every winter here. The solitude at the island cabin is precious! I am prepared for the weather and have multiple backup heat options.Don’t stress, you are a capable guy. You can adapt the the challenges. Enjoy the peace.
