🥶Our plans to get into Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park are not starting off too well. After a few days of mud and snow in Wyoming, we finally set off for Jackson Hole Wyoming.
We share A Day in the Life of Full-Time Truck Camping. The chores, the challenges, and the UNEXPECTED. Before leaving, we do some basic repairs and resupply with food, propane, and water. The weather cleared, or so we thought. We drive right into a snowstorm at 10,000 feet on a mountain pass. We decided to turn back and find a place to camp while the storm passed. The temperatures fell to 14F degrees, but we stayed nice and warm in our little home on wheels!
Many of you have asked us to share more of our normal daily life, this video gives a good idea of what our typical travel days look like. However, this time, it's a little colder and snowier.

Love your video! We love camping in the winter. We use the Little Buddy heater to get the temperature up so that we do not use as much propane on our Aldi. It only takes about ten minutes to warm our Cirrus up. It worked for us at minus eleven in Yellowstone and it’s safe for indoor use with the kitchen window cracked open. Once everything is up to temperature we shut it off. Safe travels and hope you can make it to the Truck Camper Rally.
@Stonyboot
@Stonyboot 2 года назад
Our Alde holds temperatures very well, once its warmed up. We use a hair dryer for that initial warm up, works well and has no fumes to worry about. Sasha likes to also warm her feet up with it... I do too sometimes :) We have the TC Rally on our list, but this year is going to be really complicated and we don't yet know if we will make it. But, we really want to, last year was a blast!

Going into freezing territory, carwash those wheels, water near walmart and at propane store. You are buying propane so just ask...Can I get water. DRAIN that supply hose. Cover windshield to hold in heated cab. Passthrough window to heat cab or just start dinner. Get better bolts at Wal-Mart or auto zone. Hope all that water doesn't freeze since it is so cold out. Best of luck!

Hey Scott I read that you won the truck camper magazine calendar contest. That’s great. I will definitely be buying a copy when it comes out. It’s so nice watching you folks so we can learn from your experience in your truck and camper. If you’re travelling much in the cold put some quality diesel fuel conditioner in your tank. Diesel fuel can gel in the cold and the conditioner takes care of any water freezing in your lines. Today we put an order in for a 2022 Lance 1172 truck camper, largest model Lance makes. We picked out our options and colours paid the deposit. We traded our Lance 992 in on it. The camper will be ready sometime in late March next year. Looking forward to it. Safe travels my friends.

We were very excited to hear that we got a spot in the calendar! Thanks for following our adventures, it's pretty fun sharing it here on RU-vid 😎 Thanks for the tips, we haven't spent much time in the cold with our truck. I do use treatments from time to time, but I'll be looking at anti-gel treatments. I haven't had a problem, but I'm very familiar with what can happen. We are in a warmer location now, and plan to steer clear of the harsh cold if we can. Congrats on your camper purchase! Sometimes I dream of a nice big camper, but there are always tradeoffs. Those 1172s are impressive! Safe travels to you too!

Our winters can be brutal for sure, but we actually get less snow than you'd think. We tend to have 3-4 major storms over winter, essentially getting it all in one lump sum. The worst of it is the WIND. It's nothing to see 50-70 mph winds for days at a time. Gets really aggravating and can making driving really difficult. Semi trucks get blown over all the time.

Great video. One idea: Get one of those 1/2 gal pump sprayers from nearly most box stores to use for many purposes. ($6-12) We use outside hand wash, clean muddy tires, fire pit extinguisher, even wash back steps/door. Has an adjustable spray tip to direct fog or straight stream as desired. Bonus idea: Bought propane sensor at Ace to watch out level. (Mopeka $35) monitoring by Bluetooth. Went to bed at 11% with lows at 35° and now at 1% on day 3. Ready to switch tanks soon as it empties or at bedtime. Safe journey!

Thats how I do my cords, but never thought to change the coil pattern with the hose. I'll give it a try when it gets warmer. You were fortunate the snowfall was negligible. For me, two details that were enjoyed: Sasha, that's a nice sweatshirt with a great message. And somehow, I missed your license plate in the past. Yea at times depending on where I'm at there's no free camping. And in the winters most campgrounds are closed . I'm in Tahoe and lots of snow ❄️ piled up still from last snow storm . A good thing here is they have the snow park passes $25 for the whole winter season . With that you can park legally in parking lots really close to skiing resorts and right on the lake . Works for me and my ski bum career .... Have fun at the beach ⛱️....I'm heading to Santa Cruz next week myself .....Happy trails 🌞⛱️🚚🍺

Great video! You should get a directional antenna for the cell reception. It's more work to set up but it works MUCH MUCH better since it can amplify much more (both receive and transmit) and it less impacted by noise (if any). Can't wait for StarLink to get approved for mobile use (stuck with FCC...)
@Stonyboot
@Stonyboot 2 года назад
I have one in my shopping cart, but just never pulled the trigger. Sometimes the Omni antenna is nice because its quick and simple. A directional takes a little more time to setup. I'd love to have a switch, so I can flip between them when needed. I don't want to leave the connectors open and I haven't figured out how to solve that. Do they make a coax switch, I guess I should google it 😂
@ranig2848
@ranig2848 2 года назад
@@Stonyboot I’d just get the directional one, mount it next to Omni one and when you get to a spot where cell doesn’t work or you get 20mbps, like even >50mbps even in tough spots.
@someoneelse7629
@someoneelse7629 2 года назад
@@Stonyboot Yeah they make switches, but just pull 2 cables inside and switch manually, there is always losses in switches, but I would just go with the directional, it't not rocketscience to turn it roughly to the direction that gives better reception then the omnidirectional

@Stonyboot
@Stonyboot 2 года назад
You are so right! The weather is bizarre. We found that there arne't too many options for free camping on the eastern roads leading to Grand Teton, so a nice big casino parking lot was a welcomed site!
@DenaInWyo
@DenaInWyo Год назад
Just never go IN that casino. We drove up there once for kicks. We'd have been better off to have mailed them a check and saved the drive. And yes, our weather can be so crazy. Spring storms are usually the heaviest snow, and that can happen all the way through the end of May, even early June sometimes. That wind is what makes it terrible though, with the drifting snow and the difficulty driving high profile vehicles. Never hurts to slow down! Our interstate speed limits are 80 mph, and in 50 mph wind with 70+ mph gusts, that's just too fast. A very common sight to see semis on their side taking a little nap by the road. Wheatland to Chugwater is a particularly bad stretch for wind (I-25).

If you get mud in the tires often and it causes road vibration, always carry along some windshield washer fluid and some of those silicone rubber spatulas from the kitchen. Gets into the cured channels of the rim and won’t scratch (if you don’t scrape really hard pressing the rocks in the mud into the finish). You only need a small amount of the WW fluid for it to release when frozen. 😎

Have you thought of nut-locking, or just holding the inner nut with a spanner, then use another spanner to turn the outer nut hard against the inner nut, or using Lock-Tite?
@Stonyboot

I'll just use locktite when I get around to it. The first time it came off, I assumed that I just forgot to tighten it. But the second time, I knew that I needed a new plan. The parking lot of the grocery store was not the right time. I have a list of repairs to make when I get the time. I'll get the correct bolt and put a dab of loctite on the threads. If I had a long enough bolt, a jam nut would be great too!!

We spent a lot of time there staying at Dinosaur Valley RV Park (great place!) We do work well together, but like everyone, we have our days! I grew up driving in the snow of New Hampshire, and I love it! You can have a lot of fun driving in the snow, but, you're right, it can be hazardous! With our house on wheels, I like to keep the risk to a minimum, but sometimes miss out on the fun I COULD have. Someday, I'll have another disposable truck to bomb around in snow storms!
