hey everyone in this video we attach the expansion chamber back on the motorcycle and see how well she performs. I really like this snowmobile motorcycle and It's one of the craziest builds I've done yet! if you want to see more, be sure to check out the channel for other builds such as mini bikes, go karts, gas scooters, motorcycles, and motorized bikes!

Yes. It needs to be determined if it is the ignition coils or the pickup coil, under the flywheel. If your ignition coils are near anything hot, try to isolate or protect them from heat. If that doesn't work, try hooking an aux. 6 volt supply (lantern battery) to the ignition and see if that helps it run longer. (Make sure you unplug the wire from the pick up coil) I am assuming this is from an old snowmobile, so the coils (ignition) could be equally shorting hence you lose both cylinders. Usually, (from my exp.), when the pickup coil(s) go, you lose everything. No six volts. Try isolating the ignition coils from heat, first. I hope I am right and it helps. It has been decades sine I worked on these engines. Show us when you nailed the problem. :-)
@texastwostroke9638

What these guys said. I had an old sled that did the exact same thing. Coils got hot, and no spark. Waited til they cooled off and she fired right back up. Next time it shuts off on you, check for spark. Deleting the oil injection is safer. You don’t exactly know what ratio the pump is working at. Read the spark plugs and jet accordingly. Lastly, if you have the air box, try to use it. Two strokes are tuned for the air box (almost as much) as the expansion chamber. They are not 4 strokes! Been there, done that. :)

The stock jetting on that carb is meant for a ambient temperature of 5 degrees celcius down to like -20. Aka it's probably putting out a lot more fuel than youd need on a 25 degree day. You COULD put a smaller main jet and raise the c clip on the needle inside the carb slide by one clip position and it would probably pick up a good 5-8hp. Just dont go too lean or you could melt or hole your piston :D Edit: losing power as it gets warm could be a ignition coil going bad. On some old sleds I've owned they only start to act up when they get hot. Good luck!

Dude, your fab skills are improving considerably. I would love see what you could do if you actually tried to make something nice. I really think it would do and your channel a ton of good if your next project is an original %100 custom bike frame made from new steel tubing. A nice looking 50hp or ⬆ engine and new/restored/repurposed, you know, nice looking rims. With custom fenders, seat and so on... I absolutely believe that you can put together something amazing if you try. It'd totally be worth the attempt. You could even still do small side projects while making it if you feel like you wanna pump out a different video. However, a good long form project would really help out your channels analytics and give people a reason to wanna watch your next vid to see whats been done. Just a thought man... I have a 1972 suzuki tc125 trail bike (2 stroke) it was having oil pump problems, I was going to simply premix the fuel and oil, but was advised against because the oil is injected into the intake port and also a certain crank bearing. The crank bearing wouldn't be lubricated with just premix fuel. Dunno if it's the same with yours but just something to watch out for.
@el34superlead

I would check into the claim of the crank bearing thing. Premix should have no problem keeping the bearings lubed.

interesting, I've been looking around a little and a lot of folks say that the only issue is with water cooled engines, because the premix lubes the bushing in the water pump. But this engine is fan cooled.

Actually snowmobiles have better cooling than typical two stroke bikes since they are fan cooled engines doing harder work than bike engines. It's ALOT heavier to haul an snowmobile than a bike. Petrol oil mixing is always safer than relying on the pump. The majority of 2 stroke motorcycles have wrecked their engines because the oil pump has stopped working. You can trust an oil pump on a 2 stroke as much as you can trust a woman. Also you cannot use engine braking on a oil pump 2 stroke, only safe on petrol oil missed 2 strokes to do this (provided they aren't run recklessly weak!!). 35:1 is a higher oil ratio than 40:1. 40:1 is on the edge of poor lubrication and 50:1 is right in the middle of it. The best rule of thumb safe ratio is 33:1, speaking from 39 years of riding 2 stroke motorcycles everyday on roads. Try separating the exhaust system into separate pipes. Fabricating a basic 2 stroke expansion pipe and silencers isn't rocket science or bodging up a system using old 1970's 2 stroke pipes isn't either.

best power on 2 stroke is with a mix ratio from 18:1 to 28:1 I use 25:1. but with good oil 32:1 is ok. use air cooled 2 stroke snow mobile oil. or motor bike 2 stroke oil air cooled type. thare are 2 types of 2 stroke oil air and water cooled type have to use air cooled type oil as it is a air cooled engine. i like the bike with no expansions camber as it to big and he has plenty of power with out it.

Since this was 4 years ago you must have figured out it was either coils over heating or vapor lock in the fuel system. Engines built for cold weather operation do not do well in the summer. If you still had spark, it was vapor lock. I used a 2 stroke snow blower engine on a push scooter and it would vapor lock after a minute or two. Went loke a bat out of hell for a minute or two before it would lose fuel.

The carb is jetted for straight gas which has a lower viscosity when it has an oil injection, you need to rejet the carb when switching to premix. Its probably leaning out and causing excess heat which can effect the stator and lose spark. Look up an instructional on jetting. When your jetting is spot-on, power will be boosted dramatically

alright here is what Ik about snowmobiles and things that can help you first unless you changed your jetting its now to rich since the engine is always warm since you are driving it is the summer and no longer in winter so u could be flooding the engine the flip side has already been said about the short fuel line where the bowl is emptying before it can fill and these could be going hand in hand also the reason you need the expansion chamber is it creates presser zones that give the engine more power with the right jetting and clutching in changing anyone of those things you might or have to change the other 2 for the engine to work properly neat build (i would have gone with a liquid cooled tho) getting it licensed might be hard tho since im gonna guess it has no title but best of luck

On snowmobile engines deleting the oil injection pump is usually a bad idea leave em hooked up, but change that jetting if its still has the stock jets in it,

You should curve the exhaust over to the right side instead since you have all the clutch on the left lol thats one of the reasons brand made bikes have it on the right also :P
