Decisive Strike is apparently getting a sizeable buff in the next PTB! In this video I provide some context about this change and explain why I'm afraid that it might end up hurting the game in the long term.

Update: We tried the new DS on the PTB and it's laughable. With the weird new animation, Survivors only get about 0.5 extra seconds instead of the promised 2 extra seconds.

He really fell off though, he has pretty bad takes some times. Beginners don't need DS because beginner killers... get this, are beginners and don't tunnel because they either don't tunnel or play for fun. If a beginner killer tunnels, then guess what? Their mmr inflates and goes way up, so beginner survivors won't have to deal with tunneling killers.

@deadbydaylightdaily5455 Possibly but they should add more in general benefits for killers to just not tunnel like BP benefits they had for stuff like bbq, sure a killer could tunnel but if given encouragement away from the playstyle more survivors would be able to see the light of day overall. Nothings an end all be all though, killers will always tunnel at the end of the day, DS just doesn't help the way they think it would

The point is that it incentivized people not to tunnel. Not that it completely prevents it. You’re way less likely to get all 4 stacks if you tunnel than if you try to hook everyone individually to get the 4 stacks

So, DS was 5s. Then it was 4s. Then it was 3s, and changed to an anti-tunneling perk. Then it was 5s again. Then it was 5s but conditional (conspicuous action stipulation). Then it was a 3s conditional anti tunneling perk. Now it's 5s again. BHVR, do you need to talk to somebody about this? They change this perk more than a paranoid shut-in changes their locks.

@mistersnuggles2546 you're hilarious. They nerfed adrenaline while you still have multiple problem perks. Coming from someone who plays 50/50, behavior makes bad decisions for both sides, and its definitely not survivor sided. We get slugged and tunneled more than ever and we shouldn't have to have an entire build to make it so you don't camp and slug.

As a Killer main, i think the bonus effect for Decisive Strike could be that a killers power is disabled for, say just, for example, 5 seconds after the stun duration ends. This means killers who can normally counter the distance generated by D.S. like Blight, huntress, Billy, and Nurse would be held back more by D.S. but non hyper mobility killers like Trapper, Hag, Pig, etc, would not be effected as much as the high mobility ones.

While not being able to use your power for a small time does solve the issues with high mobility killers and ranged killers, what about Myers and Ghosface who don't have anything special other than stalking and instant downs? Realistically this would solve the issue with high mobility and ranged killers but it would affect killers who don't use traps/mobility/range badly and unfairly in a unique way only to them.

The build I run all the time consists of Deadhard, Decisive, Off the Record and Windows. When I get tunneled this is usually what happens, I take endurance hit from off the record (I try to prolong chase to waste killers time) and when I go down I use ds and reset mend. Then I use dead hard to prolong chase further. By the time I'm down again, my team has normally done at least 3 gens. Even though dead hard isnt as good as it was, I still get crazy value from it.

While I initially rejoiced over the change, there's no denying that you are right. They could have easily changed the stun to affect the killers to allow us to get more distance, or changed around a throw away perk no one uses. Maybe one day bhvr will listen to you, I think this is a very fair take (and I hate being tunneled back to back to back in every match, if it happened every once in a while I'm all for it)

Tbh, as someone who’s brand new to the game, the first thing I did was buy the movie licenses because they were the ones I know. I think you’d find a decent amount of those movie characters being used even in new players because most people usually get into the game because of a license, not because of the game.

I always wondered why bhvr doesn't make more free common perks? Or just remake the shrine of secrets to have all the perks instead of daily rotations, but to balance it out they can have the license perks be more expensive than the non ones.

I think the best changes are the ones that creates or buffs strategies against a meta over flat value nerfs and buffs. I would love another perk that works with protection hits aside from Mettle. "When you take a protection hit, the protected survivor gains the following effects: 1) 150% movespeed for 3 seconds. 2) Pools of blood and scratch marks are suppressed." 3) Exhaustion for 40 secs This perk works for the protected survivor if they already have exhaustion."

I feel like the issue with balancing or introducing new anti-tunnel perks could be partially fixed by tying their activation conditions into a single mechanics that would prevent survivors from excessive use. It could fill the same role that Exhaustion mechanics now fills for "distance" perks. The Exhaustion allows devs to introduce those perks for survivors without being concerned about perk combinations or repetitive use of such perks in a single chase. For example, anti-tunnel perks may require hook stages as charges for activation - a single survivor can have only 2 of them, so they get only 2 uses for the whole group of perks. If some of those perks end up much stronger than the others, they can be balanced by making them cost both charges, further restricting the survivor if they choose to use it. It also leaves a room for more perks that can support or counter this particular mechanic - like Vigil or Fearmongerer for the Exhaustion mechanics. We already have some example of this idea in the form of the Dead Hard - just without any effect on other anti-tunnel perks. This idea does not cover the issue of uneven effect for the different killers that Otz mentioned, but I think that his idea about making certain killers suffer additional effects from the Decisive is a good approach. Perhaps, it could also be tied to some new or existing mechanics. Again, there is a good example that already in the game - Basic Attacks and Special Attacks, which allows to prevent Nurse and Blight from using insta-down perks such as Starstruck with their power without affecting many other killers.

I can't lie; as a survivor main I was happy that DS is getting buffed. However, you are correct in that this is not good for the long-term health of the game. It really would be nice to see them rework those unused perks like you mentioned; I've only ever used Premonition when I had to for a challenge.

This. It's necessary to have good antitunnel, but the reason there's tunneling IS that so many Killer styles are being gutted. It's shitty. This isn't really the fix this perk needed. What is needed is a rework of this perk that does something else more fair. But Survivor only mains don't see that. They're not going to like the slug meta this promotes. And when you try and tell them this, they just laugh and go "lol don't tunnel, git gud noob." They don't understand and won't.

My only problem is that half a year ago they announced a change to DS and it seemed that they would do a rework or some different modification, and the only thing they did was... return the perk to how it was originally... 😐😐😐 I genuinely thought that They would give it a rework or an extra effect, such as: in addition to the 5 seconds of stunt, it should also deactivate the killer's power for 3 seconds, so killers like blight or nurse would be equally punished as an M1 killer.

The perk isn’t how it was originally what crack are you smoking. The perk now works only if you’re being tunneled instead of being a free get out of jail card. If you touch a gen or gates are powered it’s gone. It’s only truly meant to stop tunnelling and that’s how it should work. If you aren’t touching a gen you’re wasting time, and if you are, you won’t get this perk activated. Decisive was bad in the past because no matter what you had 60 seconds of a free stun so you could work on a gen uninterrupted for 60 seconds.

They should've genuinely reworked the perk like people were suggesting some time ago, only doing a 3 second stun AND depleting the killer's power, to counter Nurse and Blights, giving you a chance to escape them, rather than punish M1 killers even more while the top killers don't care at all about the stun like now and like they will soon...

@@Siter Obviously not intended for Oni, he can be immune to the loss like Leatherface for instance, it would be overkill for those 2 getting depleted obviously, because their powers don't work like Nurse and Blight (whose power automatically charges in an instant)...

The issue does not lie with the anti-tunneling buff itself, but rather with the potential for Survivors to abuse it offensively, similar to how some players utilize the Off the Record perk for taking a hit for a survivor who hasn't been hooked yet, thereby denying the benefit to the intended recipient of the perk, which is designed to counter tunneling.

I've used endurance offensively a lot, what do you think people will do with multiple endurance states and DS like this? What about FTP+BU and DS forcing Killers to simply lose chases that they just won? It's not ENOUGH of a buff for what matters and really just a buff to slugging, already problematic Survivor play styles, and another nerf to weaker M1s who don't need more nerfs. This will cause more problems and not even solve what it set out to do. It just isn't enough.

@@ThePhantomSafetyPin if you think that a killer downing a survivor not even 60 seconds after they get off the hook qualifies for a “chase” then you’re mistaken. what it actually does is it’s an assurance you won’t be hooked immediately after endurance is up and the only offensive capabilities it may have is taking an extra hit for a survivor who just rescued you but even then the killer can just wait until ds is gone and then hook you but i do understand this perk does not help the game long term

Easy solution. They make a new status effect called discombobulated (or something else) for killers. this status effect will disable a killers ability. Then keep the 3 second stun for DS and add a 5 or 6 second discombobulate effect with that so after the killer is unstuned they are unable to use their power for 3 extra seconds. Thoughts?

I can't believe we both thought the same idea, I honestly stand by all things you said, except, losing tokens specifically for some killers might sound healthier but it's unavoidably makes the game more complicated, and as far as we can see they remove bunch of unique power interactions like using flashlights to destroy Hag's traps, burn Nurse etc. It's pretty clear to see they want to keep things streamlines as possible. So, I though... incapacitated status effect - but for killers. When deceive strike applied, killers get stunned by the default stun duration of 2 seconds, but now it also applies a incapacitated status effect that blocks their M2 power for few seconds, let's say 8 seconds based on the clip you showed at 8:00, a killer without a traversal ability or projectile attack, it takes them 8 seconds to catch up to survivor, so a killer with M2 power, like Spirit, Deathslinger, Nurse, Blight, you name it, now have to catch up at same time as the others do with just playing the game as a M1 killer for few seconds. Hypothetically, it just removes the ability to press M2, not stops the power itself to gain tokens/charges/percentages so after the 8 seconds passed killer can use it to catch up distance again, but at same time M1 killers can also catch up by just playing normally. I think it's a better solution. I know it's hard to see my comment in 800 other comments, but I hope this founds you, and you consider this idea and maybe even test it since basically you need to just wait 8 seconds before you use power in a custom game, without in-game implementation. I think i agree in some statements like they could do something about the time on basekit bt that would last like 12 or 14 seconds instead of 10 or maybe make the survivor dont receive any damage (like the immunity of the old dead hard) for 3 seconds before having the bt for killers that hits the survivor right away from the hook (and also he cant take a hit for the savior) would be awesome for the both sides

After reading your discord post im suprised I have not seen more ideas like it. Having Decisive silence the killers power sounds like an cool idea to punish the stronger power killers. On top of that its a cool mechanic that hasn't been touched I really wish bvhr could test with an idea of silences but I guess I'll take the 5 second stun I wish there was a cooler solution than just buffing numbers.

That's a dangerous mechanic, perks that could disable the killer's power. Even for just tunneling I would just think that would encourage slugging like how when Decisive Strike was so strong every pickup on non obsession that had a 33% wiggle so you had to drop. I just think the Killer meta in reaction to sort of optimize around a strong survivor perk that shuts you out of power is just to slug and wait out the timer.

I just don't see them ever doing the "remove power" when stunned by DS because they moved away from perks affecting specific killers. And some killers have powers that don't take very long to recover anyway, while others take extremely long to return. So what if nurse takes 5 seconds to get 2 blinks back? She can still blink quickly and down. Imagine OnI losing all his blood build up or something

My first DLC was Ghostface and THEN Halloween, because I like slasher films and wanted to play these characters the most of all the Killers/Survivors in the game. That's what got me hardcore into DBD actually, being able to BE these iconic film characters, and all three are still in my roster today. I had DS about three months after I began playing.

The worst thing about it too is that its not even guaranteed, esp for new players who may miss the skill check. At least if they buffed the stun and made it like "if you miss its only 3 seconds stunned" at least it'd be fail proof. They should also add some endurance or something to prevent the whole nurse/death-slinger/huntress thing with hitting them again, or if they were downed by no safe spaces.

they should just make a perk where if you are in the terror radius of the killer while on hook and if being chased for 10/20/30 seconds after other survivors gain slight haste 1%/2%/3% and gives the killer hindered 2%/4%/6% and if you get deepwound during this time gives more hindered 3%/5%/7% and gets rid of your scratches, grunts and blood aswell as making you move 2%/4%/6% quicker until mended (slightly quicker than bloodlust 3 making it good for new players to make distance while being undetectable and experienced players harder to catch because a good killer will still track their foot steps) call it like sense of security or something and make it common so anyone can get it and or run it new or seasoned. its not anything crazy but it could help make it less valuable to target one person.

I'm honestly pretty happy with the bandaid solution even after agreeing with all the other points you made. BHVR makes changes very slowly compared the 2 week patch cycles of other big games, so if they want more time to (hopefully try to) come up with a better solution, this is the easiest way to do that. Bit of hopium since they haven't mentioned any plans like that, but like I said, they work slow and their changes have been mostly good in the last year or two. The nurse and blight losing tokens after a stun is GENIUS btw. It's so rare that the nurse esp gets stunned anyway, so amazing idea

back when DS still had its 5 seconds stun and lasted 1 minute on unhook, i had multiple matches of survivors getting unhook and then B-lining for me (the killer) to bodyblock for a completely different survivor i was chasing, even if i was on the other side of the map. Edit: i know it's technically better for me since it means 2 less survivor doing gens since 1 is down and another one has to come and pick them up. my problem is that it's incredibly exhausting to see survivors get so pissed off that i'm not tunneling them that they feel obligated to B-line straight for me just to get value out of 1 perk. either that or they cannot fathom the idea of someone else having fun and they HAVE to stun the killer to feel a bit of joy in their lives. my main problem with the change is that it will encourage more survivors to equip DS, and therefore more survivors will act this way.

It has the conspicuous action stipulation, and in its current form, you can't utilize other tunneling perks without forcing Decisive, also punishing long chases as well. But keeping 3 second stun and your Nurse/Blight idea would even the playing field for all killers much more fairly.

I did think of this as a good change, but I do hear you on how the result might not be what Behaviour intended. Thinking over a perk idea, perhaps you could try an Endurance status effect for a short duration, or even something like Mettle of Man where it just denies the hit without deep wound that stays until the chase ends and the Killer leaves them, after getting off the Killer's shoulder. It's hard to come up with an anti-tunnel perk that would be on par with the perks that already exist, mind you, but perhaps that might be a 'This Is Not Happening' rework to at least give a chance. That idea of denying the Killer's power in Decisive would make it unrivalled in anti-tunnel, but it should at least be an effect it would have to really punish stronger Killers with either high mobility or a ranged ability, capable of downing in seconds. Here's what I thought of for This Is Not Happening. It won't be immediately useful like Decisive, but I'm hoping it would at least reward altruistic plays from flashlights and pallets so that newer players have a better chance. I just can't think of a different idea that would be useful like Decisive, without making it a Decisive clone This Is Not Happening When the Killer gives you special attention, you know how to give them a run for their money This perk activates after getting off the Killer's shoulder by any means when you have at least 1 Hook Stage Gain the Endurance status effect for 10/12/14 seconds OR Deny the next hit that would put you in the dying state, which deactivates when the Killer ends the chase and moves outside of a 28m/32m/36m radius (as an example) This perk stays deactivated until you are hooked again, and permanently deactivates once the Exit gates are powered 'No. I won't allow this to happen, even if this is the last thing I do!' - Nikki, the Lost Tapes With this idea in mind, I also altered the flavour text associated with the perk because performing your best under extreme stress might not be the most suitable tagline for the different effect ideas I thought of. I think the radius effect isn't necessary but it's actually perfect otherwise. Instead, the endurance lasts for an additional 3/5/8 seconds? That's more than enough time for the Killer to go away and the Survivor to leave chase. Otherwise it STILL punishes low mobility Killers for not being fast enough.

i HIGHLY agree that a lot of the main meta perks that belong to licenses should be reworked into the common pool so there's less of a wall between new players and the expeerience. my friend group recently brought someone new into our SWF games and it feels like we're busting out the red yarn and thumbtacks to figure out the most optimal way for her to enjoy the game as fast as possible with her spending the least amount of money. definitely would like to see the unlicensed perks get like a store page where you can buy specific perks with iri shards rather than being forced to wait for the shrine, especially with how many perks there are now. can't say i won't be using the buff heavily but wish it was implemented a little different. thanks for your thoughts Otz!

The idea to make certain killers have their tokens get reset after being stunned would be a great idea even if it was for just for DS stuns. I could even see DS disabling all killer powers for maybe 7 to 10 seconds being fair so it's universal making it easier to implement. The M1 killers would have little to no change with their powers disabled while the high tier killers that can normally counter it with their powers would struggle more. Either way this change really missed the mark and is just a bandaid fix that avoids the core issue of tunneling. Maybe some day they will try to do less "safe" changes to try and make an actual impact on the game's health

Would likely have been better for them to just make it so all killer powers can't be activated for 2-4 seconds after recovering from the stun. Hits the already powerful killers harder while giving all killers closer to the same recovery distance to catch back up. Also something that effects every killer would be simpler to implement than needing to modify how to functions for only certain killers. If effective could then tweak some killers to have harsher negatives if needed.

I feel like adding an effect like the old BBQ & Chilli Basekit for all killers but with some added conditions would greatly help the problem. Make it so killers get bonus bloodpoints for each first hook on a survivor(except the first survivor) that happens BEFORE any survivors are sacrificed. This gives killers an incentive to switch targets and even if it does not nerf tunneling directly in a gameplay department, just reducing the number of times tunneling happens will make an overall more positive experience for everyone

This would help me. I was happy with the Grim buff because I like to spread hooks out, and I play mid tier M1s mostly. So, i would love more bonuses for not tunnelling. I only even do it if desperate. But it's a problem when one perk hurts the weakest more than others.

I feel this buff is more of a quality of life change since without the speed survivors usually get kullers no matter how little tge power will catch up relatively quickly, it's the same reason why Save the best for last (rest in peace 😢) was so strong.

You missed the point of the video The problem isn't the buff itself But how you need to buy a character for real money to have a strong anti tunnelling perk And how it got buffed and it will pretty much only apply to the already weak killers that don't have much of mobility

I think the devs should focus themselves more on rewarding the killer that goes for the unhooker, rather than the unhooked person. Cuz tunneling in high mmr is an aspect that is almost a must sometimes. If Bhvr could just focus on rewarding the killer for starting a chase with the unhooker - like giving the killer haste, bp, exposed or some sort of a pressure reward, then it would make the game much more enjoyable for both sides

Exposed and haste is dumb, since Make your choice exists and its a toxic perk as it is, BP would be the best reward but most killers will kill you as fast as possible so BP consideration hardly matters anymore especially when they are P100s

@@gabeanderson1163 make your choice is a mid perk - B tier at best. It has a big requirement and even advices to not camp. The perk literally promotes a play style, where the killer needs to leave the survivor alone on the hook - just like devour hope, meaning that it advocates for a non-camping gameplay. It is nowhere near a toxic perk, I have no idea how you came up with that. And more importantly, not everyone is competitive in this game. Some people will want to just grind bp and have fun, which could eliminate a certain amount of players to make tunneling less common on a daily basis. It doesn’t have to be haste, exposed or any real effect. But my point is, that rewarding the killer to go for the unhooker, makes the game much more enjoyable and eliminates the problem with tunneling. The game rewards tunneling too severely - which is pretty unhealthy and bad. So if the game could somehow switch it up by allowing the exact opposite, it might as well just make the game more fun

@@reksustv Lets see: Hag, Demogorgon, Blight, Nurse, Unknown, Dredge, Alien, etc- Teleport/high speed movement killers that negate the distance and insta down the unhooker- particularly if it was a basement placement. One of the *only* reasons this perk gets used at all is for this exact strat- which is toxic BTW they already have a BP incentive to not tunnel. Its part of the emblem system in the game: You naturally get more bp for drawn out games were you max out injuries and gen kicking and doing various actions. Tunneling unironically lessens how much BP you make as is, same with camping.

@@gabeanderson1163 nurse cannot down the survivor since an m1 after a blink is considered using her power, and the same goes for blight. Hag can’t teleport from such a range, unless she uses her add on and doesn’t pressure survivors repairing gens. Xenomorph gets slowed down when using his tunnels to get to the unhooked survivor and not every tunnel is exactly next to the hook. Dredge has the lockers blocked for a few seconds after the survivor was unhooked and the time it takes to teleport to them from such a range is very long. And most importantly of all, the unhooked survivor can use base kit borrowed time, off the record, dead hard etc. for protecting for the exposed survivor. And if they don’t, then that’s a solo Q problem, which in other words is a skill issue. So this didn’t really prove anything. I can use certain survivor perks to bully the killer, but does that mean I’m toxic? Or I’m just playing the game, not the usual way?

Adrenaline not working off hook is still ridiculous. The perk will already do nothing for you if you die before endgame/don't get unhooked in endgame, now it has the potential to do absolutely NOTHING for you in endgame once you are able to control your character again?

Thissss. Swf will still get value but solo players are not gonna use this well. Those who have it will either just not get value or they hide trying to avoid the last minute chase, and refuse to repair the generator in fear of being found. I've already deen people say "I just hide and get value anyways". Well nice, who the hell is repairing the gen if people hide? Solo is already a pain in the ass, why make it worse every time ffs

8:47, I agree with you about the unique concept of punishing high-mobility killers like the Nurse and the Blight by causing them to lose power tokens after being stunned. This makes sense because stunning them often results in fewer benefits or no benefit at all for survivors.

the fact that stronger perks are not avaiable right away for new players is great, remember this is a horror game at first and a competitive game second, feeling week and not having the best survivor perks might stretch that feeling of being chased by monsters before they become the sweaty survivors we all are and hate aswell

I completely disagree. This will greatly affect strong players as well. Just remember the build of people who broke Momo's Blight 1900+ winstreak. They had 4 unbuffed Decisive Strikes. Now the team can take 4 DC 4 OTR and weak killers simply will not be able to win. It is clear that there will be no problems for the Nurse, etc.

Only thing that bothers me is feel like people may use this for more protection hits after an unhook. Since you can't risk picking them up again you have to slug them, which survivors hate, is also really unreliable for the killer to capitalize on.
