The song is called "Nobody Loves You When You're Down" and it is remarkable. I believe he was 16 yrs old when he did it and you'll swear it's a young Ray Charles!
Gimme Some Lovin is one of the best rock songs from the late sixties! Stevie Winwood was a teenager and is still rocking them today! He plays piano and organ and is so gifted.
Oldie but, still a goodie! Written by Steve Winwood and sung by him as a member of The Spencer Davis Group. Me, being a huge fan of The group Chicago, love Chicago’s version of this as well 👍
Although he co wrote this amazing track, and performed it on the record, Steve Winwood was just 15 years old at the time. A true prodigy. The Spencer Davies Group were a long ways ahead of their times and an inspiration to many that came after. ✌️
Stevie Winwood as a teenager, tearing it up! They also do Gimme Some Loving, that you need to hit as well. Amber, the way you groove, you are not only in the wrong decade but the wrong century! My dear, you would have just loved the late 60s and seventies for music and the vibe of the hippie community. Steve Winwood is a freaking treasure, try him when you can with the Blind Faith classic, Had to Cry Today, Eric Clapton has one of his very best solos in that tune, they were on a mission from God! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
OMG! Enjoy. Stevie Winwood on organ and vocal, yep. This is the first big group. Lol! That's right, Jay. Vive La Difference. Stevie's a real young man here. Yep, the talent was just oozing right on out. Chicago does "I'm A Man" too, live version. Thanks!
@@kevinsacks3185absolutely!!! That live version is freaking amazing. The vocals and Kath’s lead are both top notch. Jay and Amber you really need to do the Chicago version live from Tanglewood.
I generally prefer studio versions of most songs to live performances, as the live versions often don't capture all the subtleties of a studio mix, and most live versions have a lot of improvisation that for me, is too different from the original. However, Chicago's Tanglewood performance is excellent, and very faithful to the studio version.
When you do their version of Gimme Some Lovin' please do a video version of it. You'll be amazed by how young Steve Winwood looks, but at the same time how much mature his voice is. I believe he was 17 when they did that song.
Christine McVie was Spencer's girlfriend and was the original lead singer of the Group before 15-year-old Stevie Winwood joined on Vox organ and slowly took upon singing duties. Another Spencer Davis song that was covered by The Blues Brothers was Gimme Some Lovin'.
Not really. McVie was Spencer Davis' girlfriend for a while and she sang with him a few times when he was a solo artist, but that was not the Spencer Davis Group. The group formed in 1963 with 14 year old Steve Winwood and his brother Muff Winwood along with Pete York as founding members.
Back in the old ages this song came on and everyone is grooving’, never get tired of listening to this and a few others they did during their short tenure.😎🍺 Spencer Davis Group rocks.
Steve Winwood has literally been doing this his entire life. He was only 14 years old when he joins Spencer Davis Group, and was only a few years older when this song hit the charts. He's been playing in clubs and touring and recording since he was a teenager.
When Spencer Davis Group comes to mind, I always think of 2 things: Steve Winwood, and THIS Song! Always so great to hear it every so often, and it Never Gets Old! Great Reaction, You Guys! :)
After the two Winwood Bros left the group, it reformed and had a hit with 'Don't Want You No More'. The Allman Bros covered it and had a hit with it also.
You need to hear the Chicago version from their first album. It has Terry Kath, Peter Cetera and Robert Lamm on lead vocals. They didn't have the lyrics, so they guessed what the lyrics were and turned out pretty good. It has everything you love about Chicago, so make sure you listen to the Chicago Transit Authority version which is over 6 minutes long.
Another one from the great 60’s👍 Another great song from the 60’s by The Buckinghams…Kind Of Drag! “ they had more hits also. You can’t go wrong with this band. Thank you! 🩵🩵
I second that! “Kind of a Drag” was anther 60s classic that isn’t played or remembered enough these days. Probably I haven’t heard it in decades, but it’s still sitting there in my memory, clear as day. Thanks, great idea! 😀
In fact Chicago took it to a whole new level with the advance in production in just a few years between them. Their cover is KILLER !!! If you are going to sample it, make sure you do the Live at Tanglewood version.
Fun fact, the group took the name of their member Spencer Davis simply because he was the only one willing to get up early in the morning for radio interviews.
Have you guys ever thought about reacting to cover versions of songs you've already done? Chicago does a great version of this song and the Ska band Reel Big Fish has some great covers of the Poison songs 'Nothin but a Good Time' and 'Talk Dirty to Me'. Those are just two examples and there are so many great cover versions of classic rock songs out there.
That song rocked when I was pizza cook in a place with a band eery weekend in 1966-1967. They all covered this song back then and has always remained a favorite.
Stevie Winwood was 16 17 years old hear!!! The next one should be Gimme some Lovin LIVE. It’s the best! It’s the live one that 5:03 minutes. Subscribed from (Alcast 3) They were apart of the British Invasion
Now go watch the video of this with them in pajamas. Steve Winwood is 15 in it I think. He started out wanting to sound like Ray Charles and you can tell he came closer than you'd think any 15 year old could. Also, Chicago did a fantastic job with this and I think it was out only 1 year after t;his cut.
You missed a bet by not starting with their most memorable hit, "Gimme Some Lovin'." (But when you do, use the studio recording. It's better than any live version on RU-vid.)
Fusion band Blood, Sweat & Tears made a cover on this. This turned out to be Spencer Davis Group's last hit with Steve Winwood in it as he moved on to Traffic. You should check out Blind Faith song "In The Presence Of The Lord", composed by Eric Clapton and sung by Winwood.
In your spare time check out the live version of Steve Winwood and The Spencer Daveis Group doin it LIVE! Heres the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jLaPO79hrM0.html
This is one of Steve Winwood’s early successes as a songwriter. He joined The Spencer Davis Group in 1963 when he was still just 14. At the time of recording this song he was still just 18 and his lead vocal and Hammond playing are mature way beyond his years.
Steve Winwood helped write' Gimme Some Lovin" by Spencer davis Group when he was sixteen and that is him on organ, fantastic!. React to "Gimme Some Lovin " same period please.
Finally! I have waited a long time for one of their songs. I hope you also react to "Keep On Running". it's my favourite among their songs. And I still prefer their original version of "Gimme Some Lovin'" over the Blues Brothers cover.
Jordan, your man Barry Gibb is getting a Kennedy Center Honor. That's the same honor Led Zeppelin was getting when you reacted to Ann Wilson singing (killing) Stairway to Heaven. It will be broadcast on Dec 27th at 9 PM on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. {Sorry for usurping the I'm A Man comments, but I don't know how to get a reaction independent comment to you.)
Very nice. Good to see you two reacting to this song. Classic song! You mention next song to react to? Definitely "Gimme Some Loving" I'm sure you will love it! While I'm at it, there is another song Stevie Winwood wrote, "Dear Mr. Fantasy". Have you done a reaction to it? Actually my suggestion is Stephen Stills and Graham Nash cover of that song. Stephen literally shreds his guitar in it. They did Dear Mr. Fantasy justice the way they performed it. I bet my bottom dollar you will most certainly love their version of it. Happy Holidays
Hey guys trying to get thru to you once again, I know you like a good falsetto, please listen to hey there lonely girl by George Harmon not sure on his Las name but it's a great sung ,I'll bet you both are going to love it
Still a fantastic groove after 60 years. Stevie Winwood a child prodigy a soulful genius. From Spence Davis, to Traffic, Blind Faith, and his solo career, he is 75 years young and still singing
So glad you did this banger of a song. Great reaction! You should also check out this song by Chicago. They make it almost 8 minutes long. For more The Spencer Davis Group: "Gimme Some Lovin". There is a nice live video of it but then you will miss some background sounds and vocals. I always listen to the remastered studio version. I hope you also give "Keep On Running" and "Somebody Help Me" a chance.
Please guys, more Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa already! Btw, the reason Stevie Winwood's voice sounds so different here it's because he was like 16 or 17 years old when he recorded this. He joined the Spencer Davis Group when he was 14....😮talk about a long career!
The genius Stevie Winwood he's 15 or 16 when he wrote the songs that were big hits with the Spencer Davis Group before he went to star in the band Traffic
I dunno if Stevie was a full-grown man when the S.D.G. recorded this..But he sure sounded like it!! Powerful vocalist--always loved that about him. I chuckle at those lyrics..Dude would come up to some chick singing them lines with a voice like that and bag her 9 times outta 10!
Besides Gimme Some Lovin', you also will want to check out Keep On Running, When I Come Home, Somebody Help Me, High Time Baby and their cover of The Coasters' 1957 hit Searchin'.
As a nineteen year old girl in the mid nineties, this was my favourite getting ready to go out on a Saturday night song. I honestly think it might be impossible to hear this song and not want to at least bop along, if not full on dancing.
