I miss Olivia so much. She was my earliest childhood crush. I loved her from the first moment I heard her singing, and still love her to this day, nearly fifty years later.
Just listen to those lyrics : " Trap in the spell of your eyes in the warm of your arms and the web of your lies " undisputed the Best artist Australia has had ever tons of talent in her actress , singer and very humanitarian person she was .
The backup singers wasn't recorded on this song. It was all Olivia's voice every bit of it. Her backup singers were only there to be a part of the video.
I have to be honest this is my favorite artist of all time! God blessed Olivia Newton-John, with one of the best voices ever! This album came out in 1978 right after the movie grease and on the cover of the album, she is sporting those tight black pants that she wore in the movie. This album is titled Totally Hot. It was a crossover album, bringing her out of the country genre that she was in and beginning her rise into pop rock music. She is the best!
I am 45 and fall in love with her at the age of 2. Before, I was old enough to see Grease. You should listen to Silvery rain and Promise. I believe your childern would love the song promise. And the meaning behind it is so touching and you can feel her love in the song and one of the many many things she used her fame to bring light too. Both songs are so so underrated. Slivery rain was a warning about the poison being sprayed and the damage it would cause on earth.
5:27 I have always loved this song from her "Totally Hot" LP. I've had it since 1978 when it first debut and still in mint condition. Thank you for sharing and a new generation of fans.
i remember when this first came out and the thing about this tune is that we all know how pretty her voice always was but with this tune she put some straight up STANK on this tune ! and big ups to the band also .
A very underrated icon. She is seldom mentioned among the divas of the late 70s and 80s, but she deserves to be. She added a sensuality and sexiness to her music that was, nonetheless, quite wholesome.
It bothers me when people don't mention her when they talk about the main female singers of that time. Especially when she was the top female artist for many years.
Olivia Newton John songs to check out: 1. Suddenly - with Cliff Richard 2. If You Love Me Let Me Know 3. Let Me Be There 4. Take Me Home Country Roads 5. Have You Never Been Mellow 6. Twist of Fate 7. Banks of the Ohio 8. Make a Move on Me
Olivia was one of the first artists to sing her own backing vocals along with the lead track. Amber, I think you would love Sam for it’s beautifully tender vocal while Jay might appreciate Twist of Fate for it’s 80’s synth pop/rock production. She has such a varied catalogue from her 70’s country hits & contemporary ballads before Grease, to her pop/rock/new wave hits after Grease.
Olivia did all the vocals. That's why it all sounds like her, even the backing vocals. Steve Lukather (Toto) was the guitar player and David Hungate (Toto) was the bass player.
Yeah, I screamed when they gave the credit to "backup singers" for Olivia's vocals. Ugh! Let's face it, they shouldn't have used this video in the first place when there was a legitimate promo video made for the song. This was a video created years later for a home video release. None of the people in this video except for Olivia were part of the original recording. The youngsters need music consultants like myself to assist them.
Growing up Olivia was everywhere on the radio. I was able to experience her country music in the 70s and then her pop music in the 80s. The Physical album songs were always on the radio. I am happy that I had the privilege to hear her music when it first was released. Today it still sounds awesome. May she RIP.
That s my childhood right there.. sunday barbecue with family with this song on on a sunny day..loved this reaction..so much nostalgia..thank thank you so much..
Loved Olivia. She was one of my early crushes when I was a kid. Love this song. She was beautiful, sultry & sexy without ever being over done. She didn't need to promote herself as anything other than a genuine person. But her style in this video is steeped in early 80's - shoulder pads, headbands, long earrings, short stylish hair was all the rage for so many female (and some male artists). RIP Olivia...we miss you!
There has never been anyone who has ever said a bad word about her. People have come forward from her entire life, and they ALL loved her. RIP Miss Olivia Newton John. You were beautiful inside and out!!! Hopelessly Devoted to You, is another great one if you've not checked it out yet.
She had great back-up singers, but this was the original track and in it, she also recorded backing vocals; it was also her hitting that note. Trust me. She did those a lot.
I was a 12 yo boy when I first heard this song. Then I saw the promo video for it. It made me feel...things... She was mostly definitely my first celebrity crush. That never really changed over the years.
My very first concert was from Olivia back in november 1978, as a teenager of 13 years old it blew my mind. She sang this song for the first time , it was on her next album. Brings back so many memories.
Love Olivia so much! This song was such a hit when it came out. May she RIP. And now Matthew Perry passed away yesterday. So sad. :( Maybe you could react to his comedy movie The Whole Nine Yards on Friday as a tribute to him. May he RIP also.
