Sohyang is my favorite singer!! She was either 39 or 40 for that performance. She caught Cervical cancer when she was 20 and had to have an operation. This was just before she got married. She'd been cancer free ever since but she can not have any children. So she decided to use her voice to bring comfort and healing to others. She is a very serious Christian. I so look forward to more of your reactions to Kim Sohyang!!!

Sohyang has quite a background story. A cancer survivor, a devout Christian that practically gave her life to the church, fighting with pneumonia, cartoonist, novelist, etc. She is married and her father in law is her manager. Humble and sweetest person ever. We are blessed that she sang songs from most genre. In most concerts, her cover songs are the same as the original. During competition, she will rearrange the songs, and that is where all her gems come from. And of course she chose different genre to perform - even a rap song Day Day. She participated in I Am A Singer 2, Immortal Song 2 and King of Mask Singer. All her live performances in these competitions will blew you away. Although I do not understand Korean, I prefer her Korean songs to her English songs, strange as it might seem since all her English songs are super good. Do note that if you react to her songs from King Of Mask Singer, do not use RU-vid. They truncate her performances to half a song. React from vimeo with Eng Subtitles. The same goes for her song "Where Are You" from I Am A Singer 2. I remember recommending Sohyang to you many months back, and I honestly did not think you will react to her anymore. Yes, I had the same inertia as you before I watch Sohyang for the first time. I had expected a roundish woman who will sing traditional operatic Korean song and I will fall asleep listening to that lolz. Now I am a huge fan of Sohyang. PS: Don't mind the dislikes. There are haters of Sohyang out there who believes that their country singer/s are much better than Sohyang.

The guy mentioned as a pastor was in fact a famous radio DJ in Korea during 70s~80s who frequently introduced great western musics to Korean listeners. He was invited to this show as a guest. This was one of the performances in the KBS (Korean Broadcasting System) competition show among "good" Korean singers singing songs that have been loved by Koreans. Which show may be translated as "Immortal Songs". So Hyang was almost unknown to the general public before this show and became so famous afterwards. She has been a famous gospel singer only served for God and rejected to work with a "commercial" labels who found her absolute gift as a singer.
