Older trucks/cars are a LOT simpler than today's trucks, not a whole lot of computer diagnostics or nannies, so it'll also get you in trouble because there's no nannies that you're use to. But don't go to crazy (motor wise) you'll be absolutely fine.
@@biggchase69 not really at least in my first gen. When I had issues it was mostly mechanical and electrical issues are usually a lot easier to diagnose.
That comment you made about weather making people forget how to drive, I can relate I am from Canada and when the snow goes away so do people's common sense
Like that in michigan also. Snows and they ether drive to damn slow or way to fast. Accidents like crazy. They need to go to Florida if they dont know how to handle it.
I just bought a first gen 4x4 as my first truck about 2 months ago off of a farm with the clutch out of it. The wait to start light is on the dash above the radio in the second white box from the bottom. To make the steering way better get a borgeson steering shaft and rag joint and ged a redhead steering box. That should help a lot and you could also do crossover steering which a lot of companies make that but I would get it from farfromstock. Farfromstock also has an airbag kit with I think 14 inches of travel but you have to switch axles to a 3rd gen.
I had a 1990 D-350 dually, that thing was a cream puff! Drove hard when under no load, but hook up a trailer with some weight on it, she rode like a Cadillac. Easy to work on, added some bells and whistles to it without any problems, traded it in in 1994 when Dodge came out with the first new RAM models. Miss my old D-350.
Paint the first Gen a plum crazy purple and black it out awe that would be a beast! Nothing better than a 1st generation 12 valve Cummins. Can't wait to see this build
I have enjoyed watching you build all of these trucks. I have learned a ton of things and been inspired by you greatly. I am in my 40's and being inspired by you is a little backward I think, lol! I should be inspiring you. The only difference between new vehicles and old vehicles is electronics. The new ones you have to acct for all the sensors and junk that they out on them. The older vehicles is pretty much grab a wrench and get to work. Another difference is, to work the new ones you better have metric tools as I have found out on 2016 ecodiesel Build. I was running to harbor freight everyday when I did my 6 inch lift, lol! Keep it up, man, can't wait to see where this 1st gen goes!
I don't know if you are having this issue or not but since you have to keep jumping it I figured I tell you that those trucks have common charging problem. They have a computer, it doesn't control much but it does keep it from charging. I had to take mine and get it rebuilt and it took care of the problem. Excited to see what you do with it. I love the videos, keep up the good work!
It definitely needs a manual swap. Ditch the stack. There's something about a clean mint restored 1st gen. Small lift, 35" tires, HD bumpers with decent grill guard. Clean and simple
Ryan whatever color you decide to paint it, i think you should do a diy in your own shop how to paint a truck. it would be awesome to see for those of us who cant take it to a paint shop and pay 10k for a paint shop and wana do it ourselves in our garages. and maybe wetsanding/buffing steps aswell? idk maybe im the only one would would enjoy that
Since that 1st gen is a vintage truck I think you should use a vintage color, I believe Mopar had a great looking blue back in the day EB5 paint code with maybe a flat black hood. Low and wide, twin turbo, and maybe a hood stack.
Love the new build!!! Make it wide and modernize the suspension air ride or king coil-overs preferred! Make it candy green or a sage color! Then run (Aaron crown series triumphs) 22 x 14 -81. I’d try to get them in chrome btw. P.s. you could run the same set up wheel tire and suspension and do something patina for the paint job! 💯 That is my thought! Killer build though, super stoked. Let’s go!!
I fuck with it, 3M has some cool 2080 series vinyl wraps, you should check out Matte Brown Metallic, Matte Indigo, Matte Charcoal Metallic and Matte Slate Blue Metallic. Those are the colors I like for this truck. One of those or if you must paint it, go for a deep Navy color, I’m sure there’s a candy midnight navy color or something. I’m stoked for this build actually, it’s something different.
I would do a tow rig with it Twin turbos dually swap the rear end and I would swap a manual into it and do a dope ass two tone paint job (black and orange) on it definitely keep the mirrors as is
Hey my guy! If you can the diesel king, specifically for 12v’s is “V-belt and son” this guy will set you straight! Definitely take care of the killer Dow pin, there should be a gear under the dash for your indicator to move the needle where you want it.
I have a 1990 d250, you wait for the fuel pump too stop humming and you can start. I also don’t think there’s a two battery option. And make sure too get the killer dowel pin done! If you don’t you will blow that motor with twin turbos or triple!
Green with the lime, lemon with the banana ram, orange with the copper...gotta get that grapefruit my man and round out the citrus grove and go with a pink! Pink with green accents is always a solid combo 😍
This is perfect i just got a 1990 single cab 3500 gmc that i need to fix most of the stuff your going to fix on that cummins cant wait for this build to begin
Great choice for a new build...what about a nice pearl titanium gray color blend with chrome wheels?🤔...I think a grey tone would be a bad ass addition to your Ram family...
Alright. So Ryan, hear me out! 1 ton dually conversion slammed on bags with baby blue paint!!! 🥵🥵🔥 No matter what you decide to do with it, I’m sure it will have the signature Ryan Mayer “let’s do something nobody has seen before and absolutely kill it!!!!” I can’t wait to see what you have planned for this truck!
I think the candy green would look nice on the truck but how about like a deep metallic blue with the blacked out chrome or even with chrome would be clean
Do a flatbed and put the stack that is on there on the flatbed, dually swap it, make it the tow rig, then a big ole trailer and tow both those show trucks
you should restore/ build out a bad ass version of each generation of every cummins ram they made! id be super stoked to see what you could do to a nice Gen 2/3
Never to many rams. I work on them daily. Did the similar thing to my 4th gen 1500 that you did with the yellow interior upgraded from tradesman to a big horn and traded it in for my 5th gen big horn 1500. All of yours looking good
No we are talking!! Decent garage RU-vid channel has a lot of good info on fixes for these old trucks. And check out farfromstock for some good aftermarket products.
Two tone. Bottom half 1 color top half another color. Candy blue and metallic silerish blue. Order a metallic silverfish green and a dark candy forest green. Or that classic candy reddish-brown and tan
Call up Power Driven Diesel...they’re the go to on 12v knowledge. Gonna have to get rid of the VE and swap in a Ppump and some new injectors. And they only need 1 battery because almost everything on the truck is mechanical...dash and lights are the only things using the battery
I’ve never truly been a mopar guy BUT!!! Lol Man you make them look good not to mention I alrdy like the Cummins and these new 2500s are just o so sexy
I know you like bright colors but the challenger destroyer grey with a bright powdered suspension would look awesome... or a root beer candy would look good as well...
Ryan remember the purple Chevy truck bed brother??? We all know you can do a body panel. Just get a new bed and save the time and headache. Better do something with the Cobra soon.
