The release of this video just happens to coincide perfectly with the release date of Half-Life: Blueshift, 18 years pretty much to the date. So happy birthday blueshift. Also while I have your attention, just a couple of things that I'm sure will be mentioned in the comments: 1. I was playing on hard. That's why I was perpetually low on ammo. 2. I know Gordon wasn't running a "Resonance cascade" test the resonance cascade was a side effect of the test. I just wasn't sure what else to call it. 3. The donations from Cave were 2 or 3 donations I just cut them all together and put J.K Simmons Portal 2 lines over the top for the sake of brevity. Edit: since people keep asking no I did not somehow get J.K Simmons to do voice acting for me. The voice lines are all from portal 2 custom test chambers. There are about 60 unique lines of dialog that are never used in the main story line. 4. Yes I know I misspelt lighting and there's a second a at 20:05 and at 20:15 the text over the scientists head reverts to "scientist" because I forgot to change the text somehow. 5. Yes the photo of Picasso without his shirt on was the best photo of him I could find. No that will not get the video demonetized.
Imagine Gordon Freedom crawling through the vents when he hears the echoy cries of a broken man *why did I draw the smiley face with all my handgun ammo? why did I draw the smiley face with all my handgun ammo?*
@Latvian Dragon It's easily the worst of the "official" Half-Life 1 expansions. The base game and Opposing Force are both great, Blue Shift is mediocre by comparison.
Matthew Gagnon Opposing Force: Play as a marine, with a bunch of new weapons, enemies, and gameplay mechanics. Decay: Two player co-op; play with a friend and solve puzzles and fight enemies together. Comes with the ps2 game, so it is essentially free. Blue Shift: Uh... High Definition models?
Blue Shift was more of just an addition to perspectives on the Resonance Cascade. The reason why Blue Shift is so small and doesn't have anything from Opposing Force or something new is that people thought Opposing Force made absolutely no sense since there were too many aliens and guns that Gordon never discovered, as well as a whole group of Black Operatives and so on. Gearbox felt the pressure and their next Half-Life expansion became what we see today. At least that's how I remember the story. (Basically Blue Shift is Blue Shift because Opposing Force broke a lot of what the canon Half-Life did.)
That is indeed an important point: Blue Shift fits perfectly into to canon while one must explain many OP stuff, especially Race X. In my opinion there is too much unfair BS bashing.
I've always loved how the bit at 6:25 was created just with random pieces of dialogue recycled from Half-Life 1 that were never meant to go together. Thank you, Gearbox.
@@elizabethdespair I think I learned how to do something similar in college in After Effects. I cannot remember for the life of me how to do it and really wish I studied After Effects further, I'd be up for making some video content.
Awesome, but you missed Gordon Freeman passing in the train behind you when you were stuck outside the door - matching exactly the opening sequence of Half Life.
He's not, the people who made blue shift confirmed that Barney was at the door, they pointed out the guy at the door and said they would make a game about him, and we've already addressed he has like 100 brothers
@@MiNameisJager Not many people know this, but Barney is actually an intergalactic being of greater strength than even Gman is himself. He's just cronically indifferent to his own abilities, aside from swift teleportation and being able to exist in multiple different places at once.
HECU soldier: "Just because Shepard's team didn't make it-" Shepard: "Listen here you little shit, I went through hell while you were throwing bodies in water and crying about it."
That whole lift sequence was just "be careful what you wish for." "It's not like we're exploding" [LARGE EXPLOSIONS] "I wish this lift was going faster" [LIFT BEGINS TO FALL]
I like how in Black Mesa, the guards and the scientists are basically on the same level of intelligence (which is pretty low ngl) and that they all just sit around doing repair work or “science” together
"If all the security guards were just clones of Barney." That would make the rest of the series interesting. "Hey Gordon! Its me! Ya know, Barney!" And im here too Gordon, remember me? Its me, Barney! Don't forget about ol Barney! *comes in for a high five
You need to creat a full-stream channel, like Vinesauce's Fullsauce channel. Like a place to upload your raw stream footage without the subtitles, I need more of your narration in my life
@@Ribbons0121R121 How is it "kinky", what, are you guys sick in the head or something?.. I don't get it, like, we're not talking about girls here *OR, SOMETHING (because, what else would it be a reference to.)
The effort you go through to make your videos, tracking the text on the NPCs is entirely unnecessary but you do it and I love it.. You deserve way more subs.
It's literally J.K simmons. Like I ripped the voice lines from portal 2... There are a shit ton of portal 2 voice lines reserved for custom test chambers. For example: i1.theportalwiki.net/img/a/a7/Cave_Johnson_dlc2_0410_altcave_mating_ritual01.wav
I like how Jolly wound up playing Blue Shift for the first time because a mod was a sequel to a mod which was a sequel to Blue Shift, so he felt obligated to play it first.
Barney: Hey! My name is Barney! And this is my friend Barney Barney: Hey! My name is Barney! And this is my friend Barney! Barney: Hey! My name is Barney! And this is my friend Barney 3:25 Hi... I'm Bob
I'm legit scrolling through the comments seeing if anyone pointed out who voiced those lines. Cause it seriously sounded like the legit voice actor from portal 2 lmao.
Let's see, there's Gina and Colette, there's Alyx who's still a baby, I think Judith could've worked in BM but she wasn't accepted because of Gordon, and there's the unnamed female scientist in the Anamalous Materials lab picture That's also in a photo with the Borealis.
Alyx, not Alex. But yeah, only females appearing in the Half-Life franchise and being related to Black Mesa are Alyx, Gina, Colette, Judith and the unknown female scientist from the picture in Kleiner's laboratory.
He spent centries learning the art of the editor and then ascended to immortal status, all the while time travelling 20 Million years into the future to teach the secret past to all the humanoid aliens that reside in earth. To put it short he spent around 3 minutes while high on cocaine...
For those who are wondering how he did those text animations here's the answer: jolly has the vortigaunts as his video editors Proof: 9:39 he knows how friendly they are
ahh, the copy of a copy. The original Barney was decently smart, but they were only allowed to take one set of samples and had to clone from clones from clones to keep the stock rolling. That explains why all the other guards die while Barney survives to see Half Life 2
@@garrettoliva5154 I did say Helmet too! The Adrian in the cover has a helmet and a single one in Opposing Force and well, in both games their face is covered so it makes more sense.
@@Lucios1995 they wear helmets in HL1. I guess you didn't realize that because their helmet is the same color as their uniform. There's also the fact that the model Adrian uses isn't very unique, as you find other marines that look like that.
@@amelveladzic But Womble's the master at subtitles, have you seen the art of his subtitles? It's brilliant, subtitles in reflections, shadows, water, etc...
@@VeloJG While I agree that Womble's use of subtitles is pretty amazing, I think that it requires some audacity to imply that the person who pretty much pioneered (so to speak) the use of subtitles has to "improve" at his own craft. I might be arguing a dead point here, I don't know, but it just doesn't feel right to me.
It’s actually head cannon for a lot of people that Black Mesa is staffed mainly by clones, with Gordon freeman being an exception due to G-man pulling some strings. They use clones so they don’t have to keep the workplace very safe and can do whatever tests they want and no one will come looking around for missing persons because they were made in black Mesa and as far as anyone is concerned they don’t exist. It’s why “personal safety” is a low priority for Calhoun.
@ 08:37 I would just like to point out that as a security guard I can confirm that there are some sites we are posted at where the "residents" (employees of the client) who think that we are there to do any piddly shit task which is actually someone else's job, we're here to observe, report, and call Fire Department, Police, Ambulance. We are not your fucking elevator repair guy, inventory clerks, or receptionists. Carry On
There were a lot of details that I preferred to the OG Half-Life. The alien weapons in particular were great - seeing a weird blue hand crawling towards you, then finding it's a "gun" was a brilliant set piece. It's a shame you never got the Barnacle Hookshot in HL2 though - with the physics engine you would have been able to actually swing around like a sci-fi Indy.
