Hey guys! At last, it's been requested a ton, and here it is! Here's my first impression of the Line 6 POD GO, as well as some things that I commonly get asked about with floor units... like using the expression pedal for things other than wah or volume! Enjoy!

Great video man, thanks! I just got my Pod Go recently and I'm still learning the ropes and watching videos and having a blast. It's such a fun little modeler and it has the exact same amps/FX/cabs as the big Helix...the two sound EXACTLY alike. To me the Pod Go is for people that do small-medium sized gigs, or want to have a solid modeler for the studio, or both. Whatever you need it for you can't go wrong @$449!

I almost just spit out my coffee at the dog thing in the beginning... 10/10. Very tempting option for a modeler. It gives many people all they should really need, including the full HX amp models instead of the lower grade POD/HD models.

Taylor! Thanks for your review!!! I just bought my POD Go and boy it's a beast... I was searching for someone talking about adding a whammy to it, and after some 6 or 7 reviews you're the first person actually talking and explaining how to add a Whammy to it!! I saw people who I think got paid to do the review and they did not even mention the Whammy on the expression pedal!!!!!!!! So, great job there. I'm really happy with my purchase and I'm really happy that I upgraded from my HD500 to the POD Go Cheers and keep the metal going!

Yeah! I was using it more like a harmonizer always on, and an actual whammy pedal before the POD Go. Now I'm using only the POD and it's great! Less stuff to carry around hehe... thanks again!

Sounds great. Especially being you just opened in t and started using it. Sounds really really good. This is a modeler I can justify being that I don't play professionally, and I mostly play at home, and just sometimes need to have something like this for cover tunes and playing small gigs. It has more than enough effects, and so much easier to use. Really liked the pitch shifter pedal as it sounded good and seemed to sound really good.. I think this is a very practical item.

When the pod go was announced, I admittedly wondered what would justify its existence with the hx stomp being around, but in execution, it makes a lot more sense than I initially thought and definitely seems like it's much more viable for the gigging musician. That said, since it has the same audio quality as the helix products, it seems like a no brainer for anyone trying to get that helix sound, for less than helix prices. It is kind of annoying that companies either don't provide a power switch for their effects units, or give you a massive wall wart and there's seldom a compromise
@TaylorDanley
@TaylorDanley 3 года назад
Yeah. I think the approach is a little weird, like why are you limiting my choices like I'm a child.. but I get whey they did it. Either way, if you want to just plug in and start playing, I think this is a better option.

This is a little long but if you're on the fence about modeling this could be a worthwhile read. I bought one of these for late night practicing through headphones and the occasional fly gig/jam. It sounds so good to me that it has become my main rig, but there’s an important catch- I bypass the cab sims and put it straight into the fx loop return of my Bad Cat Cub 15R because, let’s face it, FRFR systems cannot recreate the “amp in a room” sound. Although I’m not about to part with my Eventide H9, the effects on board are good to excellent. I’m still pretty floored by how uniformly great this setup sounds. Just so you don’t think I’m some easily impressed noob, I’ve been playing since the early 80’s and own or have owned great amps by the likes of Mesa (at least 6), Carr, Friedman, Budda, Fender CS, Orange, Rivera, Revv, and so-on. I’ve had my favorites from these brands and I can really say that the Pod Go into my Bad Cat’s fx loop return puts as big a smile on my face as any of the above amps. Maybe I just got lucky and the Bad Cat just happens to “like” the Pod Go and it’s a great combination just by chance? Eventually I’ll pull out other amps to find out. I also think it’s important to mention that in my experience it doesn’t sound good into the front of an amp which makes sense given that you’re putting a modeled preamp into a real preamp in this scenario. Modeling has really come of age IMHO. If you’re tired of lugging a big rig around and you’re intrigued by modeling but don’t like the FRFR experience you should consider this kind of setup. You may be very surprised. Oh yeah, the day after I bought this I got an email from Fractal as I'd been on their waiting list for the past 6 months for a FM3. With all the confidence that I was making the right choice and zero regret to date, I told them I was going to pass. YMMV

This was a great video. Thank you for putting this together. I have been looking at the Pod Go as a replacement for my Floor Pod Plus, which I still use for amp-less recording (channel MK Sounds) and have used live direct (no amp). I was leary after hearing that the number of effects one can run at once may be limited, but I usually only run distortion, reverb, gate, and occasionally delay at once. I believe that the distortion/amp does not take up an effects spot in the chain so I should be good. Thanks again, MK

@The_Fat_Turtle
@The_Fat_Turtle 3 года назад
I made this exact switch just the other day. I found the Floor Pod Plus was more than adequate for direct recording, equal to most high quality free amp sims I tried (but without all the latency). The Pod Go is an incredible leap forward in every conceivable way compared to the Floor Pod Plus, but it's not like I absolutely needed to upgrade. The big push for me was built in IR loading and bass amp models, which allow me to record everything I want at home now.
@mksounds6326
@mksounds6326 3 года назад
I bought a Pod Go a few weeks ago to replace my 10-year-old Floor Pod Plus. I went mostly amp-less years ago and I used the Floor Pod for both live and studio work. The Pod Go was exactly what I was looking for without dropping a grand or more on an expensive modeler. Is it a Boogie Triple Crown? No. Is it a hell of a lot easier to take to a gig or record with? You betcha. I used the Pod Go as an interface last night into Studio One to get some songs started and I can't wait to throw them up on my channel. Overall, if you are looking for a great modeler with killer sound and don't need a ton of complex routing options, the Pod Go is your ticket. Thanks for your review and all the best from the Bay Area. MK

Great video! I’m into 60’s and 70’s rock. I love big loud classic rock amp sounds where a cranked amp and a phaser or a overdrive pedal are all you needed. Unfortunately that sound is impossible for me to use at most indoor gigs. I’m finding more and more I need to go to a silent stage setup. I never get 2 channels anywhere I go so a mono sound path is perfect for me. If anything this has more functionality than I need. Generally speaking I like to set a lead tone for the amp and have boosting options for volume increases. Volume control after the amp makes a lot of sense because you can save yourself so head room in case you have a lazy sound man. Other than the power supply this is a perfect unit for the straight ahead guitarist that doesn’t want layers of sound. Just dial in a tone and go!

“Everything is of the caliber you’d expect from a company like line 6” *sweats in Spider practice amp series* Hehe, couldn’t resist 😄 Maybe a hi gain tone shootout between this and a Mooer/Ampero in the same price range. If one of the hi gain choices happens to be Engl. Well, not gonna lie I’d be ok with that 😁 Hmmm, I wonder if all three brand have Bogner models?. I recently checked out the Uber from Nalex and am loving the attack on that (assuming its faithful to the real world amp). A little less saturated sounding than Peavey/Mesa/Engl and definitely needs boosting, but the attack you get especially when triplet picking is so much more present and in your face 😳😍🥰

Great vid! Quick question (sorry if it's already been asked.) How do delay and reverb tails work when switching patches? My plan is to use this live, and I frequently switch from a distorted lead patch with reverb to a clean patch without reverb. If I hit a high bend on the lead patch with delay and then instantly switch to the clean patch for the next part of the song, will that delay tail continue to ring out after I switch the patch, or will it be killed? Thanks!

YEAH. A month or two ago I ordered the Pod Go four different times and each time the order got cancelled. I reached out to the vendor and got a nice "We're sorry" email. And I ordered the HX Stomp instead, because it has MIDI ports which I need, and it lets you do two amps at the same time, which the Go doesn't. But the Pod Go is definitely the better deal!

Really like your reviews. Just enough info, no constant shredding and drowning everything in delay and reverb! One thing though: is it just me, or is something clipping half the time? There is a crunchy clipping distortion on the mids. Is it the units input or did you record too hot? Or... is it just in the sound of the unit? Reminds me of the distortion sounds of my old GT6 and not in a good way 😅

I'd just base it off what you need. With the new updates, the both offer the same things (the pod go is more limited in terms of dsp though) basically the hx stomp has more connections, plays better with other hardware (midi, etc) and the pod go is more of an all in 1 rig with the form factor and the expression pedal. @Spark 0101 The two products have exactly the same simulation algorithms, therefore "NONE IT WILL BE MORE QUALITY OR SHOULD BE BETTER." The same IR is essential for a fair comparison, just like the same Guitar DI track, because those slight variations in the inclination of the pick, position of the palm in the hand, attack force, and other variables, will make the tone sound different. . Although the funny thing about it is that 2 tube amplifiers with the same tubes and of the same brand, will not sound 100% the same, due to the different tolerances of the electronic components in the analog system. The same happens in 2 identical guitars with the same components, the tone will be different. We are the guitarists who worry about that stupid thing of wanting the 100% exact tone in two units.

How do you like this compared to the HX stomp? What would you buy to run with a powerstage power amp into a cab for live playing?
@TaylorDanley
@TaylorDanley 3 года назад
I think this is better if you have simple chains and like having a floor unit with a very usable footboard. But if you wanted to run midi and have something in your rack, or even have slightly more complex chains, hx stomp all day. Either would work great in that setup

I was this close to buying a Boss Gt100 (or even GT1) but now I am being told by those in the know that COSM is outdated, esp from a sound quality point of view. Would this be a far better alternative. I am a beginner to the whole effects thing, though I do play a bit, in case that matters. And I plan to use the device mainly for home recording and some live. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not really, but I also had a low pass set to around 7500-8k on the global EQ, which I highly recommend especially with an actual amp. It really helps with any digital fuzziness.

I have the Boss GT-1 I have heard a bunch of POD Go demo's, the GT-1 can sound really good through IR's and for mid gain and clean tones, once you get into higher gain tones it can be a bit buzzy but you can dial in good high gain with some work. The Pod Go is twice the price but I don't think it's twice as good from what I have heard.
