Rachel York was the perfect "Kate" if ever there was one. What a great voice. Such a sense of drama. I never tire of watching this version of the show!
The best acting while singing that has graced Broadway in many, many years. Why isn't Rachel York a huge Broadway star? Beautiful effortless voice and great acting skills. Get her " Let's Fall in Love" CD. Amazing!. Awaiting her second CD eagerly!!
This is my favourite rendition of 'So in Love.' I like how Rachel starts lower than other versions of this song so that she can show off her range when she reaches that high note. Rachel's acting is also superb. I wish that they had the musical recordings of this cast's performances. I really liked this cast, from the character voice of Lois Lane to the complementary vocals of the lead characters. It's always a joy to watch.
I have always loved "Kiss Me Kate" from the first time I saw the 1950's movie production starring Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson and the amazing Ann Miller. Rachel York is the first person I have seen since that absolutely does the part of Lilli Vannessi and Kate justice. Absolutely phenominal... loved it, loved it, loved it!!
Actually she was using a form of singing called Speech level singing in which you stay lower in your voice in order to make your high notes strong and high, so maybe she is an alto and has to stay low to get her high notes right. Don't judge people unless you really know what is going on!
This is probably my most favorite Cole Porter composition and, in my opinion, Rachel York sings this song the way it begs to be sung...bravo, Miss York!
phenomenal !! as a student of porter's music, i've heard plenty of renditions of this song that cover the entire "quality" range. suffice to say, i have not heard better.
I was there at this very performance on Wednesday 21st August 2002 when it was filmed for DVD. Not only Rachel but All the cast were absolutely superb! It is still my 3rd favourite musical 'cast' of all time!! Well done Rachel you Gorgeous lady! (i still have your lovely photo's on top of my collection)
i think her connection with the lyrics and musicality of this song is stunning!!! musical theatre is not like opera. in opera the voice trumps acting and words but it musical theatre the acting and words trump voice. yes in musical theatre you need a good voice (which clearly she has) but you HAVE to be able to connect to the lyrics and character which she does amazingly! forget all the haters, they dont know musical theatre as it stands now.
I love the way Ms York sings this song. Exactly as it should be sung. I think it is the best I have heard so far! Her voice is very beautiful and adds to the meaning behind the song. I am a BIG Cole Porter fan--and a Hoosier as well. Thank you for posting this lovely version of this song.
Wow. Sheer loveliness. This is the power of live theater that you cannot get from film. Beautiful singing from Ms. York and gorgeous lyrics from the master of romance and seduction- Cole Porter. And the final staging and zoom-in on Lili and Fred almost touching each other from opposite dressing rooms is bewitching. Thank God for stage performances captured on (almost) live television.
I've been a fan for many years and I must say Ms. York has it all.....a talented actress with a gorgeous voice and she's stunningly beautiful. It doesn't get any better than that!
I found this before I could post and loved it. I've just watched John Wilsons Orchestra and singer do Kiss Me Kate at the proms and after seen that performance of this song I had to rush back here and listen to Rachel's far better rendition again. Stunningly beautiful both in looks and voice, which has both a purity and warmth about it and what's more when Rachel hits a long note she holds it, unlike some that over warble. John if your reading this hire this lady for the next proms and give her some great love songs to sing. As the title of the song, so in love with this rendition am I, thank for posting it.

RACHEL YORK! I think this absolutely beautiful woman has an amazingly good voice. She is wonderful to listen to and also very beautiful. Why don't I know more about her? I'm very musically literate. Now I will add Rachel York to my list of favorites!

Ms York, you have a beautiful voice, and just loved your acting also. Watching this video was a wonderful treat for me. I was playing my trumpet when So In Love came into my trumpet. When I realized it was not on my Trumpet Play List, I thought I'd check youtube to see if someone recorded it; I know the song but needed to hear the nuances. @JackieBorelli OMG I know...I saw this production on DVD at my College(Musical Theater course) and I fell in love with not only the musical, but Rachel's performance...When I finally got the chance to see the movie, katherine grayson, while eternally beautiful did not in my opinion measure up vocally.

See her ''I Hate Men,'' RU-vid video, in which she doesn't go over the top of an already over the top song. And on her CD she does a great job with Sondheim's ''Sooner or Later'' writtten for the film ''Dick Tracy.'' Madonna predictably mangled it in the movie. Rachel is multi-talented and beautiful, so why isn't she a big star on Broadway, TV or in the movies? Just shows how crazy show business is, where those with important agents and PR people rise above those with much more talent.
