So it's better to have a white audience huh? || Vlogmas Day 5
Hi friends!
Welcome back to another day of vlogmas. Today is going to be one of my sit down style kind of videos to talk about a recent controversy going on with Winnie Parker over on TikTok. We will be talking about the comments that she made about a white audience being better than a black one. There have been a lot of people chiming in on this already, and I want to make sure that my video is not a calling out, but a calling in. I also think there's a lot that we can take away from this situation. Be sure to watch the whole video and be mindful of your comments towards Winnie!
I hope that this video will be helpful for you all. Make sure to comment with any questions that you might have for me. Let's talk! Thanks for coming to my channel and spending some time with me! Don't forget to subscribe before you leave!
xoxo, Mone 💕

Girlllll the fact that she said that AFTER having soooo many black women rallied up for her about her hair experience was crazy.

Exactly. Other than the hair stuff, she is simply not that interesting. Why can’t it just be that? Why must it be a political issue or one reflecting some sort of moral deficit in our characters. I related to her on one issue. That is over. There have been plenty of influencers that I no longer find interesting when they move into other territory. End of story. But no, it has to become a “black people” thing.

As an “ alternative “ black chick, I’ve never felt at home in my community. I’ll never talk down on my people , but I will be honest about my truth and journey . Yes I have black friends , yes I date black men . I don’t think the Winnie chick is totally self hate . I don’t agree that having a white following is better. BUT I do agree that sometimes black people don’t support black people who aren’t widely acceptable or common to what people perceive black culture to be .

@callmebyyourname2015 I feel that , but going on 30 years old finding your tribe is difficult . I find that our community have a very limited perception, we hardly go outside the box we call “ black culture “ . I also think it’s an American thing as well .

I use to think that too. I use to say black women don’t mess with me cause I’m a introverted black girl then I realized every single single race has mean girls. The mean white girl bully so called nerdy white girls and the mean girl white hispanics bully the so called nerdy whites hispanic girls ect. They’re in every race however I fit in more with corky introverted black girls such as myself and I no longer single out all bw cause that makes me the horrible one

That is done in every race and society. It’s not just a black thing. You think Becky hangs out with the alternative white Girl with green hair and facial piercings? Hell no. It’s sad but that’s reality. It’s not a black thing

Simone there’s so much to unpack with Winnie’s inner turmoil and her statements. You showed her a lot of grace and I appreciate that. I personally feel we as a community (black women especially) are trying our hardest to snap the deep roots of the past that we are less than and not equal too. I can empathize with her despite her opinions I disagreed with. Hopefully she’s able to find root, heal, and move peacefully in her life. I personally loved your messaging in this video, it’s a great reminder for all of us.💗

All I see is a person who showed their true colors when things were not going well. She made it political. Content creators work years to find their stride. She could have went back to the drawing board and checked where she could have done better with engagement. Maybe she needed a new angle. But no , it was hold black women accountable because she is not the next Emma Chamberlain. 😂

Her only dating white men, in my opinion, is a totally different convo. Bc a lot of black men have been and still are very brutal towards black women (black femicide, colorism, misogynoir, etc) & are very loud/proud about it. However, her specifically focusing her negativity towards black women was pretty hurtful. I just hope that one day she gets to experience black women in a more positive light

Right I totally disagree with this content and I’m unsubscribing. Just because many bw and bg want to or are raised to be sacrificial lambs or scapegoats does not mean it’s ok. For her to think it’s ok to willing deal with people who have and are known to cause harm to bw and bg is wrong. Pain is not important to deal with it and pain and suffering is not a good thing. If your feelings or your body is hurt from being mistreated it’s not ok to ignore it. Acknowledging cause and effects and creating solutions is important. She lives in a bubble or is not as confident as she claims to be confident people trust their feelings, acknowledge their experiences, and learn to grow away from certain crowds even if it means being alone or dating outside of your race. She said all that in regards to bm but bm think the total opposite of bw who look like her.

@monique_jones 7 месяцев назад
What are yall even talking about? By even mentioning her dating white men, was trying to find the bigger picture. She even mentioned that Winnie has spoken about being called an Oreo and having a bad experience with her black family. Which makes perfect sense. All you are irritated about is the small portion about dating black men? Did you even watch the rest of the video where she tell the woman she needs to heal from past traumas? Where is the common sense?

Wow. Just wow! It amazes me every time how you look at the bigger picture. People on the internet usually just look for the smallest thing to pick on someone and cancel them in the worst way possible, and yet here you are bringing a perspective that is so human and full of empathy. I would've never thought to dig this deep, and it just shows how responsible you are with your content and with what you believe. Mad respect because people online can be really crazy when it comes to dragging someone for anything at all (and sometimes for the views and likes, unfortunately). One of the reasons why I'm trying not to use Twitter anymore haha. You brought so many things that make TOTAL sense to the discussion that I'm gonna have to watch the video again later to really sink in everything you said, cause that was deeeep. And finally, it's really easy, actually, to just generalize. I see myself still doing that a lot, unfortunately, due to some traumas. Thankfully you were able to get past yours, it really takes a lot of work and effort. Once again thank you for another amazinnnnggg video, can't stop saying how inspiring you are. May we all strive to be as human as you were with this approach ❤
@sthephotog4333

I think I’m a bit tired of people running from black women, avoiding black women, etc. then expecting black women to save them in some way. We’re mean, but you expected us to support you? Now there are some mean folks out there, but you can’t generalize… especially when it comes to people- of all races. She wanted to let black women know we let her down, but completely forgot about the realities of social media in itself… social media is fickle… campaigns flop… that’s the nature of content creation. Can’t blame one group for that- it’s the nature of the beast. Sis definitely needs to look within to find answers and get off social for a while. Go do some inner work. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Everything you said was so intentional, emotionally mature, and reflective! I know this is about Winnie Parker's comments yet you touched on the various experiences of other Black women as well. Unfortunately, antiblackness is not only rooted in yt people, Black people are often at the centers of our own hatred. I want healing and introspection for all Black people who may have a similar experience. Free yourself from others' expectations or comments because they barely know themselves, how can they tell you about YOU! Thank you for sharing your perspective, Simone.

Black audiences are LOYAL, very very loyal, but we also know when something feels off with a black creator. We're used to being disappointed, taken advantage of, and manipulated by people who want our money but don't want to acknowledge our humanity; that includes other black people. Also, (and I'm about to be cliche) black people are not a monolith, we all have different hobbies and interests and are looking for different things. Not every black person wants to watch the same black content, but when you show us you are truly here for us and align with our interests, we will show up and show out for you.

Black community has too much of a collective mindset. People dont owe you anything, not their time, loyalty, appreciation, economic capital, social influence - just because you have the same skin tone. This mindset of supporting someone based on skin color and gender is extremely wild to me. I want the product - period. You can be purple from Mars, Id buy it and support you if the product I am getting is good. When you adopt this mindset people also don't tend to have this thing of shitting on their customer base because its not blindly gaurenteed. I see two sides of this. Maybe this is rather a problem of not understanding business - the audience she has may not translate into showing up for events or purchasing products but support online marketing. She may want to change her audience and be more specific, being black is not the only criteria for targeting -age, gender, income, geographics, educational level, etc. Are all variables to consider when targeting an audience. She can use the same group and segment accordingly. Maybe she hasnt identified her core audience and shes not speaking to them. The white people supporting those artists are there purposefully - they've been targetted as part of the audience to reach. If you are gonna sell a product that resonates accross racial and socioeconomic status thats one thing but if you are blindly expecting support based ONLY on community membership or the tone of your skin - sweets thats not how business works lol. If black people are not buying what you selling, they are not your audience - move where your audience is. One of the biggest problems is when you use social issues are a branding process. If you a political commentator that may work but do you think I want to buy body-lotion from a brand thats vocal about every and all social issues? I dont care, I just want quality body lotion that targets xxx skin issues.

It’s just like you said your environment can make or break you and in my case it’s always been my family because those are the people you’ve always look to for support and comfort but that wasn’t always the case for me. It hurts for an entire community that you’re apart of to be shunned, but at the same time in some parts I kinda understand because our people can be very judgmental but that’s also everybody around us. I personally don’t feel like I fit into any category of persons because I’m completely different than the people I’m surrounded by. So although I don’t really agree with her, I feel for her.

When I TELL YOU Simone had me acting like a weather anchor talking about "And I know Simone is about to talk about when winnie said this!" I am getting a lot better at voicing my opinion PERIOD on the internet because of the very reason of any type of hate I could receive. IT SUCKS and so I always make sure to generalize what I say and remember that NOT EVERYONE THINKS THIS WAY.. Being called an oreo, why are you acting white. Or someone saying that this white person acts more black then me, fucking sucked. But still my friends (which are only hispanic and black) did not CARE. I am so thankfully I grew up with such a strong and solid circle to where I soon also did NOT care! Watching more of the video I can understand more and am so thankful Simone didn't take what winnie said a face-value and actually did her research to try and understand where she was coming from. To then let us know and try to realize what was actually bring said below the surface was very helpful.

Theres a few things I didn’t like about her comments but the main one I wanted to note (outside of what has already been pointed out by yourself and the women in the comments) is the influence and effect of a platforms technology / algorithm. A lot of platforms have biases imbedded in them to restrict and discriminate certain groups of people having access to certain content and thus certain content creators so when she speaks of “support” it’s important to clarify in which way she’s referring to e.g. if she’s referring to the number of black people who follow her, the TT algorithm plays a huge role in this that’s often outside of a lot of black peoples ability to influence. As we’ve seen historically, black people have had to create their own movements I.e. follow trains just to be able to break through these walls so the fact that she believes she’s experiencing a lack of support from black groups may be down to the responsibility of the platform itself and not necessarily the people. Now if we look at ‘support’ in the way of engagement in the comments , likes, super chats etc- I’m pretty sure that she’ll find that for her page, she over indexes in these measurements because that’s the audience that resonates with her content the most. I think this really came out of her feeling the ‘failure’ of her campaign and then lashing out, which I can have empathy for but being a content creator is knowing that you win some and lose some and if she was really in it for the heart of what she’s doing she would be grateful for the opportunity in itself first and foremost and then use that to influence her channel. Thanks for your grace in shining a light to this topic and for using your words positive way ❤

I hope Winnie sees your response and gets an understanding for what it is. It was very mature. No matter how hard you try, you’ll never be anything other black. What did you say, wherever you go, there you are…Many of us has been through the same thing, been ridiculed by how we talk, act, or where we live. She needs to learn how to be unapologetically herself. Be who you are, talk how you talk, but you’ll always be black, and beautiful. And I’m with everyone….the audience or lack there of has to do with you…so fix it!! Even Victorias Secret had to change up because they were losing revenue. She’s showing that she has a lack of accountability and self hatred.

And another thing, Black people don't even like yt culture as a collective like that, especially blk women. So does Ms. Winnie think we're going out of our way to only support yt content?

Sis has a right to feel how she does. This does not make it factual. Winnie will learn those White people won't rally behind her like she thought. Also if melanted women can't relate to her they most likely won't support her. No matter her color. I wish her peace, love, light and healing. This is a lesson for us all.

I think the hard wig soft life trend tells us ALL about black people and black womens support for certain black content creators. You’re right that the black community does support CERTAIN influencers that uphold specific stereotypes and tropes that we want to see. If you dress, look, speak, date or carry yourself differently, then your comment section will be filled with hate and people telling you that you act white or how you look like someone who dates white guys and all kinds of racist and anti black rhetoric. Black people support the types of creators that uphold toxic and harmful narratives.

Obviously there’s more room for nuance here but a lot of alternative or non conforming black people who don’t align with traditional black culture (usually in line with hip hop and urban culture) are literally crucified. I don’t think the grass is greener on the other side and that a sole race of followers are better or worse but speaking specifically in terms of the community, only Jayda Wayda and black bougie celeb types.

And who do white people support? Im not necessarily disagreeing with you but I wish we would stop looking up to white people so much. Most context creators are toxic, including the white ones. There’s are plenty of white influencers who are harmful that are still supported

Kind of like how years ago when Raven elyse called her followers “haters “ On Twitter because we didn’t interact with an ad, but really it’s us telling her what we didn’t want to see. Or weren’t interested in.

I am so tired of hearing women spouting self hate and/or negativitydirected at the whole of black people. Out of all negative comments supposedly by black women there are literally thousands of women/men who love what you look like..and you are beautiful!!! Coloration is so stupid..judging people by the top layer of skin color. You just have to look at all the stunning black or African models who are praised for their beauty and grace. I am a dark complected woman who have gotten many compliments about my black skin BUT I love me. I love all the beautiful black women I see everyday. I would finally like to say many of those women who exude poisonous comments are trolls who make a point of saying the most heinous comments they would not make face-to-face. There are thousands of black women out there who have nothing to do with negative people because they are too busy living productive lives. To make a general statement saying "black women" as a whole are mean or any of of the other disgraceful stereotypes. As far as the way a person speaks..I just can't address that old ludicrous comment about "speaking white or black for that matter..Not all Black people speak or sound the same. White people do not speak or sound the same. I am 70 years old and I feel like we keep having the same old unproductive arguments..MOST OF US BLACK PEOPLE LOVE OUR BLACK CULTURE OUR BLACK SELVES AND OUR BLACK PEOPLE and All people have been bullied for one thing or another..being too tall too short too nerdy too political too sarcastic too big etc. Let's make positive uplifting comments everyone and know that the trolls are out there. Ignore them
