Star Citizen is an open development, crowd funded project from Cloud Imperium. Consisting of 2 games, Squadron 42 a single player, story driven campaign putting you in the middle of the Vanduul attacks as an up and coming UEE Navy pilot, and Star Citizen, a highly detailed
first person MMO set within a persistent universe where there are no limits. This includes, space, and ground aspects, massive spaceships with full interiors and interactions, a full dynamic economy which reacts to the players actions allowing for anything you can imagine.
It is all being built on the StarEngine (a modified version of Amazon's Lumberyard Engine).
Please bare in mind that this is heavily WIP and in an alpha state in which much of the foundational tech to make it a reality is still being developed. Both games do not have set release dates yet but you can play the alpha build for the PU MMO which makes consistent progress
with quarterly patch releases throughout the year.
I am an independent content creator and a fan of the game, I am not paid by Cloud Imperium however I do accept ships from them to giveaway to my community but this will by no means influence my opinion or what I say and believe about the project.

I wish some of the caves were built into the side of mountains. Also, how does the ping depict a cave? Is it a special icon? I would love to do more non-mission cave exploring. It's interesting to discover all the players who have perished down there.

We will be getting more cave game play, but like many things, you have to start with a location of some kind and then add the game play around it. I like the caves, but I get lost too easy. Haha

You explain the problem with the game in one sentence ... Contested zone vs Death of a space man. Old ideas and mechanics combine with new MMO gameplay. Whats the point of creating such a place if no one will go play in cuz definitive death... The same goes for the entire Pyro system ... Death of a space man fit well for slow pace game like EVE Online where death is quite rare ( you need to go on no sec systems for that, which mean HL players), but for SC who is a fast paced FPS this is stupid. In fact they never applied it on the PU, because this too annoying and too restrictive. No one will take risk never ever. The game is slow enough (going to your death point takes you about 30 minutes) that you need an extra mechanic to restrict spawn spamming... No one will be able spawn spam any gameplay in SC as it takes minutes to go back on your items or even retrieve your spaceship... Death of the space man will be the death of the game period. You can "force" player to takes care of their stuffs and adopt the good approach without forcing them to create a character each and every 10 hours of gaming (prison, spawn time, retrieve your crafted items which are rare, etc ...). This is a MMO, even if it's simulation ish, it's supposed to be fun. Life is hard enough guys...

Been saying this for a while, death of a spaceman does not fit into the combat heavy, quick kill game that they're trying to make. I think SC in general is very guilty of this, having lots of a disparate "wouldn't it be cool if" idea of with very little thought until how they'll fit together. The recent testing to dramatically increase the player count are yet another example of this kind of thinking. The actual spaces that they've created are largely not designed to have large quantities of people in them at once. It's going to create so many problems if they do ever actually dramatically increase those player counts. Problems that they'll then spend years trying to fix. Oops!

You guys are conflating it with other systems you've used. Iirc, each death isn't a reset. Many of them will be excused as near death with the loss of limbs or some such. Giving you a reason to customize your character with high tech prosthetics. Only once your character has aged is it time for the reset. Once you've had time to develop characteristics and reputation worthy of handing off to another character. Gamers always act like devs are incapable of thinking things thru. As if the devs don't have resumes full of designing these kinds of things...

Ship making takes time. More so when they didn't even have the devs to make them in a timely manner until recently. Newer concepts are releasing first as they are built with new tech that has to be made to work with the old ship concepts so that features are consistent across all ships. Not an easy task in any dev environment.

I'd love a video of everything in Pyro and what it entails. Like I thought they said there'd be 5? contested zones, ruin station is supposed to be a much bigger checkmate and have "ghost arena", idk if they said distribution centers are in pyro or not, the 6 planets and 6 moons with any images of them we have, stuff like that All the info we have is spread out in so many videos

I think people are overly critical of CIG. This is an early access game. The only reason people are so critical is because of how they raise money, and think they have a right to complain about when features show up or not regardless of understanding there is a lot more going on when trying to build 2 games, grow a company, train employees, etc. but the reality is Rockstar games are going on 10 years of development, along with 2 billion dollars in so far, and I dont hear anyone complaining.

that 2 billion number is kinda insane tho gta 5 had a 250 mil budget. Youll wake up pretty soon. Just make sure you reflect on this fact before you spend a lot of money. Star citizen is losing players so fast it could literally shut up shop in like a few years if trends continue.

Although the sarcasm is well met. I'm pretty sure they said in 2022 that Nyx is complete and has been updated with every mechanic as they role out. Nyx is around the corner and systems seen in SQ42 have work been done on them.

Systems require dynamic server meshing. They have several in the pipeline already. Once all the game systems are finished and working new solar systems will be easier.

We need game play more than engineering imo , I hope the new MFD dont tank Frames like the old dash. eg 40fps difference between F4 in space we will see I hope that I can change the colour of the hud so I can use the Glaive and Blade

Bored was occasionally drunk and hilarious. Also he’s been through some real shit and used to do the best stuff on his show before he became big.

You really need to name these videos better! They are unique, I know no other youtuber who systematically goes through each progress tracker update and gives explanations of them! People need to discover them, but right now they just blend into the blur of all your other video titles. Put a picture of the progress tracker as the thumbnail!

These all look great but having started playing SC a few weeks ago, man the gameplay is buggy as all tomorrow. I mean, almost every single mechanic is buggy in the game - it makes me wonder what kind of quality control they have on their development. I mean, if you want to make a game fun - first make sure it works.

Caves... Ok I have a question, I don't expect we will have a solid answer for some time but none the less... Ok lets fast forward a bit ..lol a "bit" and pretend that land claims and base building are actually in the game. So I scout out a location and make a land claim and start building my base and I find out there is a cave within my land claimed area..So the question, "Do you think we will be able to expand the cave or if its already big enough, build base components within it?" If this is the case, the possibilities are interesting to say the least.

Repairing things and the ship components with multi tool seems so simple, so easy and unfertunately doesn't satisfy me imo. My question is that does it place holder feature until the actual repairing tech comes in? I might miss if there is an explanation in the video.

I feel the same way. They have stated in the past that the reason for all of the beams in sc is to get the feature out to the players either the intention of expanding on more tactile interactions in the future, and I really hope that this is still the case. I know for engineering Thorsten said they will work on more detailed ways to fix malfunctions at a later date so let’s hope that comes to be 🤞 Engineering gameplay, even with the beam repair for now will still add so much, esp for multi crew, but having actual hands on problems to solve is what I’m looking forwards to

I agree, but you figure with physical tools, let's say a wrench, there collision/clipping issues, more coding, mo-cap, animations work, more art work, testing, audio, VFX and what ever else they need to do, in other words a lot more work for that to come about.

I cant imagine itll be some form of physical wrench, but a specific device of some form requiring problems solving could work. I suppose it really depends on what the issue is. would love to hear some ideas from CI on it though

Agree that from a player perspective it can be too simple mechanic, but every addition to SC must be viewed also from a technical perspective. Imo the CIG approach is winning: Implement a feature in a simpler way, test it, optimize it and then add complexity. Don’t forget that SC is mostly(all?) server authoritative, so everything happen on server, and everything MUST be synchronized between (actually most, in future all) shards. Think at mining: They started with mining lasers Added mining heads Added module Added gadget with (loved or hated) dedicated minigame for wave sync. All must happen at the right time. Just be patient and iterate! I think they’ve learned from 3.24 cargo overhaul, tons of system architectural changes that bring tons of hard to debug bugs. Citing Morphologis: Design is an iterative work… system design too.

I have seen the mechanics of firearms in space talked about a few times over the years. The long and short of it is that a ballistic firearm will work okay for a few shots, but that the parts will weld themselves together eventually in the lack of oxygen. If we are talking about bringing the right weapon for the environment, I wonder if this is something we might get in Star Citizen. I think that would be really cool and it would force me to use something else for once, since 9 out of 10 of my favorite weapons are ballistics.

For those that are curious, there is a layer of oxide that builds up on the metal parts of weapons. In space, that oxide layer eventually wears down and then the parts end up welding together through a process that I can't remember the name of right now and it's driving me nuts. Differential welding or something like that.

It will give them more runway but those sales profits will be split between 8 people that founded CIG and the private investors will also need to be paid, so I would not get your hopes up that things will speed up as Chris Roberts stated that Chapter 2 of SQ42 will go into development after Chapter 1 releases.

It’s a life sim in a lot of respects. I personally really enjoy manual cargo loading and the idea of maintaining and repairing my ships, but I can totally see why people wouldn’t

It was kind of the plan at the beginning, the game was going to be much more simple, like a Freelancer II, and then later on make it more like what we have now after release. The community though voted to expand the project now instead of having a SC 2.0.
