Tears. So many friggen tears. This movie hit me so hard because it's so relatable to me and my own mindset on death. But because of that, it's now a movie that I can say means a lot to me, because it really just hit me hard, and y'all will be seeing that as you watch. This movie tells a really beautiful story and I loved it, even though I cried like a baby.

For those of you who stayed watching by the end, thank you. I was pretty open about my own feelings and thoughts because of how much of an impact this movie had on me. This was an emotional roller coaster, but it was also just... really nice to watch because of how relatable it was. Again, thank you for watching.

I watch this movie as a teen , had some real existential angst about death and the after life, it’s sounds sill to type but this movie really helped me deal and resolve a lot of those issues

I can genuinely say that this movie is one of my favorites. As a widower this gives me hope that one day I will see my amazing wife again and I hope that it is like this, just a place of the ultimate beauty where we can be together again.

When I was 15 my father died of cancer, my mom started drinking heavily and my family completely feel apart. A few months later a family friend sexually assaulted me and my mom was in no condition to deal with it, so she just didn't. I started drinking and smoking and dropped out of school and get in a really dark place. I started cutting a little bit and I became very suicidal. My mother gave me this book to read, the book expands much more than the movie on what hell is. In the book if you commit suicide you have no idea you are dead, it's your life as you recognize it but with everything going wrong all the time, everything you can think of, in an endless loop that you can't break free from, no matter how hard you try. Reading that book is what literally saved my life and changed my mindset about life, death, heaven, hell and reincarnation. It's always been one of my favorite stories, as heartbreaking as it is. I'm in my mid 50s now, with 2 grown kids and 4 grandkids. We lost my mom to cancer last year and my sister is having a hard time dealing with it. I gave her this book and the movie.

I'm not sure if there is a heaven, but I hope there is and it gives me a great sense of peace to believe that mom and dad are together again. ♥

I ugly-cried with you. This is one of Robin Williams most underrated movies. It didn't get very much attention in theaters because people like to remember him more for his high-energy comedies. It sat on Blockbuster's shelf and rarely got rented, but the few of us who did rent it were not only moved by it, we were changed by it. It holds a special place in my DVD collection. I'm glad to see that it is still as impactful today, and even more so knowing what eventually would happen to Robin Williams. RIP

I told you this is a AWESOME TERRIBLE movie. Most people have never watched it or have never watched it twice because it is so strongly emotional and soooo deep no one wants to face DEATH as we all will die.

I couldn't comment much during this one. Because I was crying all over again. In some of the darkest moments of my life my mind has come back to this movie to help me find my way through them. As someone who has lived with chronic depression my whole life, who has been suicidal, who is now married and has children ... this story has come back me many times in dark moments where I needed it most. For me, that's what good art does. I hope it carries some of that value for you now that you've seen it. Thanks for doing this one. :-)

The film won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, which is surprising, considering it beat out Armageddon and Mighty Joe Young for the title.

That's the difference between vulgar explosions in Armageddon and genuine artistry in WDMC. Even MJY was basically just imitating a real gorilla, for which there is plenty of reference footage to work from. Then you have What Dreams May Come which is often just taking a literary description of still artwork of heaven and hell and bringing it to life in a way that fully brings you into it - exploring both Christy's wonder and terror.

This is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen, especially the "painting" aesthetic for his heaven. It's something that I can't rewatch often because it hurts so much, but it's such a great movie. This is probably the best story of happy endings. Everything goes so wrong, and is so bad, but the destination is so good.

My parents saw this in the theater. They went to dinner afterwards and my mom was still sobbing in the restaurant...to the point people were glaring at my dad thinking he'd done something. She's never watched it since. I didn't see it until I was an adult and the scene that always gets me is the one when you realize the Asian woman is his daughter and why she chose to appear to him that way. Such a beautiful but heartbreaking film.

I am 51 and used to believe this type of afterlife. I’m now an atheist and somehow that comforts me. Sending hugs to you for feeling the feels today, and I’m still pulling for The Fisher King. I believe in (or hope for) something afterwards but I don't know what it could be. I hope for something after death as well, so I guess I go between agnostic and atheist. Thanks again for reacting to such a profound movie. Something to know is that The Fisher King is hardly reacted to on RU-vid at all. I’ve been trying to find other reactions and only found one. If that information goes into you choosing your last Robin Williams movie, that would be great. For some reason I just really think you would like it. Take care!

Sam, in 2015 as part of finishing my Masters, I trained as a hospital/hospice chaplain at a large level 1 trauma center where I live. As a function of that training, I spent several hundred hours with actively dying persons and their families. If you ever want/need an unbiased ear to bend about some of the subject matter this film uncovered for you, I would be happy to listen. Now back to making my usual left turns and doughnuts. Max von Sydow, who plays the Tracker, had an extraordinarily long and distinguished career, which started in Sweden with the legendary Ingmar Bergman. The most famous of their films together was The Seventh Seal, where he plays a man who's just died and challenges Death to a chess game over whether he can return to life. So his taking this role is very much in reference to that.

I have always found this movie so tragically beautiful. So much love, hurt, pain, beauty and this journey of discovery of self and love and the amazing storyline around the recognition of souls regardless of the exterior. No one asked for this film, but I am thankful for it, it is art. Somehow it simultaneously scars, heals and awakens. When it comes down to it this is a story about every kind of love, friend, parent/child, furfamily, soulmate and it's kind of a raw journey, you see the ugly and the beautiful :) I always cry in this film, happy and sad tears. I cried watching this with you and it was the edited version hahaha.

@@matt475 I think you misunderstand what those terms mean. Agnostic is not "atheist-lite", it specifically refers to a claim of knowledge or lack thereof while atheism refers to a lack of belief. Someone can be both atheist, does not have a belief in god(s), and agnostic, does not claim to know whether or not god(s) exist. Edit: actually, atheism isn't just about gods, but theology in general, so a Buddhist isn't an atheist just because they don't believe in deities. Also, atheists are not necessarily _ANTItheists_ who actively attack religion, most of us just want to be left alone.

Same. I remember learning about a disease that makes it so we can’t recognize faces. People can’t recognize their own children. Then my grandmother got dementia and she as a person disappeared. I began to understand then that the thing I think of as “me” is just memory and that can be erased while we are still alive. It’s definitely gone after death when the wires shut down. Before I was born, I didn’t exist. Same after I die. My DNA could have continued if I’d had kids but over time even that would be altered. We are here for a little while, then we aren’t. But I was raised with the concept of an afterlife and I still like to daydream about it. What my perfect one would be. For me, it would be walking through those best memories again. Getting to experience those magic seconds of happiness over and over for eternity. It’s like Christmas celebrations. I know now how the presents get under the tree, but I still listen to Christmas carols about Santa and his sleigh.

Thank you for this reaction. This is my favorite movie, i watch every time i need a good cry. Regarding the kids choice to have different bodies - what Albert tells Chris in the end is really interesting (and true, IMO) - you sometime need your parents to look at you as a person, not just as their kid. And vice versa. You need to look at your parents as people, not only as your parents. So if Chris wants to get to really know his kids, he needs to get to know them as individuals, and this can happen only if they have different bodies. This is also why "Albert" tells him that he will see his kids when he'll be ready to see them. They are right in front of him, but he doesn't see them yet. Annie, on the other hand, is more than ready to see them, so she does. Chris in the beginning is pining for Annie, he's not fully ready to see his kids just yet. I just love the fact that he can meet the kids as grown ups, see them for who they really are, and only then he's ready to actually "see" them. This concept was really interesting to me, to see our loved ones as who they really are, without "old baggage". Also, READ THE BOOK. it's different from the movie, obviously, but really dives in to some of these concepts and ideas. So, yeah, it's my favorite movie. It hurts and it makes me cry every single time, but that's why i love it.

this movie is so emotional for everyone. I think it hits many of us on a deep level of belief and hope. We can find comfort thinking that those who have gone from our lives will find each other in some way to be happy together. Many of my family has moved on, and with what happened with Robin as well, I didn't expect it to hit me as hard as it did. Keep the great reactions coming.

I understand what you’re saying. At first them not being their true self, it’s kind of like a weaning process in heaven. It’s kind of like putting that bag of new fish on top of the water of your aquarium so it’s not so shocking, and to acclimate to the temperature. Eventually Chris was able to see everyone in their true form.

This reaction illustrates perfectly why I watch reaction videos. I loved all the emotion you gave and as hard as it was, I loved going there with you. I've been medically dead five separate times, and all of those five separate times happened before I was 14. Fear of death is completely human and understandable, but I sort of long for it because having died and been so close to death at least 3 more times, my body wants to be done sometimes. I also am with you about his kids. My father didn't start showing me love until I was 16 because I was so far from perfect and he wanted perfect in his kids and he blamed himself for my imperfections. I just watched this movie last weekend for the first time since it came out way back in 1998 when I was in high school. It had been so long since I'd seen it that I had totally forgotten what it was about. Sadly, my husband of 22 years passed away almost 4 months ago very suddenly and unexpectedly, so this movie really hit me like a ton of bricks since it was so close to home for me and what I'm currently going through after such a significant and tragic loss. My husband was my best friend, my rock, and my soulmate. We had been together since I was only 18 and were rarely ever apart. I must have gone through two whole boxes of tissues during this movie. As difficult as it was to watch, it was extremely cathartic since it allowed me to have that big emotional release that I so desperately needed. This is an incredibly powerful movie that really makes you think. There is absolutely no way you can come out of watching this movie without having an entirely different outlook on life and death and that forever soul connection that we will always have with our loved ones. I will definitely watch it again when I feel like a need another good cry.

With me while watching this film, I was just thinking about my partner and how they're truly my soulmate and my rock, and I was also just thinking about the concept of it all as well. Losing a spouse or longtime life partner is definitely a pain and loneliness that is beyond words. It also induces an anxiety like none other. As soon as you grasp the fact that they are gone and never coming back, you start to panic because you don't know what your future holds without them. I've never experienced grief at this level before. I've never had a loss that has nearly incapacitated me the way that losing my husband has. We first met and started dating when I was only 18 years old. We actually met the very same week that I graduated from high school. Believe it or not, we met in an AOL chatroom in June of 2000! We lived 3-1/2 hours apart in different states, but drove all that way to meet me and the rest is history. He was 11 years older than me, so some people didn't think we would last (including my own parents), but we proved them all wrong! I truly believe that we were soulmates. We had and almost instant connection. We built a bond and an unconditional love for each other that could never be broken. Of course, our marriage wasn't perfect. No marriage or relationship is! We had our fair share of ups and downs and we butted heads at times, but we always could lean on each other and we remained loyal to each other until the end, no matter how tough things got. I wouldn't wish this pain upon my worst enemy!

This is one of my favorite movies … ever. It has been since it came out. It’s also one of those Robin Williams movies where I don’t think he got enough credit for his skill as a dramatic actor. He and Annabella Sciorra were amazing. It’s also one of the rare times where I completely feel that the movie is better than the book that it’s based on. If you liked this movie, you should try Bicentennial Man and Patch Adams. Other Robin Williams movies like this one that were either disliked at the time they came out or went largely unnoticed. I’m looking forward to this reaction.

I first saw this when it came out, not in theaters but on VHS in the 9th grade, with my parents. I was a bit more cynical back then, pissed off at some heartfelt movies like this because I thought it was overly sentimental and I didn't feel that love from my parents expressed in the movie(puberty), I didn't quite understand it but I was still holding back the tears. Then I saw it again in my 20s and noticed all the hints towards reveals of who the children are and I balled my eyes out. It was great crying with you during your reaciton. I am also so terrified of death. And even though I always thought I was healthy, In the last 2 years I found out I have Afib, which I think I heard makes me 6x more likely to have a stroke, so that's great. I'm just now realizing the reasons I love this movie are the same reasons I love the end of LOST.

I was waiting for you to do this one! What Dreams May Come is one of my favorite movies, I have seen it at least a dozen times and cry Everytime:/ There is an Alternate ending also, the "official" ending is sweet but I prefer the alternate as it is a little deeper dealing with issues from their past lives, I recommend watching the alternate ending yourself for a bit of a different perspective on their reincarnation. this was crazy. I have never seen this movie as an adult and, I just want to say I really appreciate your reaction and transparency at the end. Cuz as I get older, death is honestly really kind of scary for me. SO this movie was an unexpected examination for some really personal things. Mara Wilson, who played Natalie in Mrs. Doubtfire, really wanted to play Williams' daughter again in this film, probably because she was aging out of the "precocious little girl" roles all her acting success was based on and this could have been an easy bridge to other kinds of work. But she didn't get it, and retired from acting in favor of writing soon afterward. Which she's pretty awesome at, so that was probably for the best.

I was looking up reviews for the movie, because this was my aunt's favorite movie. She disappeared when I was young and when I was old enough we reconnected and I went for a visit and showed me this movie. That was two years ago. She passed away around March of this year and I cannot help but feel how lucky I was to reconnect before her passing.

What an amazing live interpretation of the afterlife. In the form of an impressionist painting. This is where imagination trumps computer firepower. Yes, it could be made faster today, but you still need the right mind with a vision to come up with this visual masterpiece.

Thank you for watching this movie!! 👏🏼 I was so excited to see your video pop up 😊 Hands down one of my fav Robin Williams movies! Yes, a bit depressing, BUT it depends on how you look at it. It's definitely sad they all died, but don't we all at some point? At least they were together in the end. I think this movie wanted us to focus on the Afterlife more than anything. The idea of this Afterlife is that everyone creates their own "heaven". An interesting idea, for sure! I'm an Athiest so I don't believe there's an Afterlife, but in my heart of hearts I HOPE I'M WRONG! lol Anyway, if we did survive these bodies, I love the idea of creating my own world and traveling to my loved ones worlds. It's a nice fantasy! 😁 And the movie is also about love triumphing ALL. How love can transend life and death. How love can literally pull you out of the pits of hell. I also didn't love how the kids took on different bodies, but I imagine the reason they did that was to have a big reveal in the movie where we realize who they really are. I think they could have done it better, but who am I to say? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thanks again! 💜
