SO MUCH NOSTALGIA!!!!!! Nostalgia Critic The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie Reaction 

I actually sang "Now That We're Men" at lunchtime in grade school. Drove my classmates up the wall.

Last week you said south park was your nostalgic movie, well for me the spongebob movie is exactly that. I was 5 years old when my uncle took me the first time in cinemas to watch this and as a massive spongebob fan even back then I was just blown away at how good it was. I quoted the best lines and songs constantly. For me spongebob was my cartoon that defined my childhood so I don't care about what the one hundred year old corpes called critics say about this movie, they will never take away the experience it gave me. Even Scarlett Johanson knows how to appreciate being a kid! Thank you Steven Hilenburg! You gave this lonely kid so much joy 😊! Rip.

Also bonus points for adapting the odyssey. At least they respected Greek mythology.

I prefer the memes better. Sure the SpongeBob episodes that take place before the movie are just prequels and they’re kinda like watching the Star Wars prequels but even the later SpongeBob episodes are also kinda like watching the Simpsons episodes too. I just wish that both SpongeBob and the Simpsons would have just permanently ended as movies.

Ironically, while the film doesn't really do anything to directly address the story and sell non-viewers on the show, it oddly does more than enough to inform a fairly perceptive viewer on what the characters - and the show by extension - are all about. Think on it, through context clues alone, what does the first few minutes tell us? -spongebob is a fairly chldish person with a SCARY good work ethic and dedication to his job -Squidward hates his neighbors and their shenanigans while being somewhat vain -Patrick is a dumb and childish, yet supportive friend. -Mr Krabs is a greedy and industrious crab that, ironically, is responsible enough to not make moves he's not 100% convinced on. -Plankton is an envious person that wants the success Mr Krabs has while wanting power. It's sold quite nicely who these characters are without having to overinform the audience and stop the film. For a kid's film, Stephen Hillenburg and his team put good work into making a solid film.
