you picked the right version, imho. this whole concert is fire. another fantastic performance from this concert that features more of paula cole is "don't give up".
This was during a time where the concept of World Music arose.so this is what you're seeing here, influences, instruments , language from everywhere. A cool time in music. I want to say 1990's, I think it was.
Hey JM the female vocalist is Paula Cole , the bass player is the legendary Tony Levin and on drums you have Omar Hakim who has played with Sting as well as others. Peter had a band of stellar musicians on this tour. Do yourself a favor and watch the whole concert it is 🔥🔥🔥.
This man and his incredible band were the final act of the 25th anniversary of Woodstock in 1994...such an incredible performance.

I am glad that you gave a spiritual interpretation because Gabriel does deeply spiritual music. This entire concert should be viewed. It is unlike anything else that you will ever see. Also check out a song that he did called "Sky Blue" an incredible song that Peter did in the early 2000's. Gabriel is a pioneer and organizer of WORLD MUSIC - a genre that mixes western music with other musical influences from different cultures from across the globe. He is a world treasure that doesn't get the recognition that he deserves.
I don't remember the details but I'm pretty certain Paula Cole was a replacement who had joined the touring band only a couple of days before this was filmed. Baptism by fire and she killed it.
Peter Gabriel has a lot of incredible songs. His videos are strange, but in an artistic way. There are other live versions of this song, but this one is my favorite. "Games Without Frontiers" "Shock the Monkey" "Solsbury Hill" "Sledgehammer" "Big Time". Just try not to figure out the videos. lol!
My favorite song from Peter Gabriel. He is a very unique artist and made some interesting videos to accompany his tunes. This song has a great grove, so I grab a set of bongos... Thanks.
I had the absolute pleasure to see the Secret World Tour concert in Vancouver BC years ago. One of the best concerts I have ever seen. Two separate stages. It was spectacular.
Secret World Live contains the best versions of just about all of his hits. I wish wish wish I was into him then and went to that show. I love how he gives the spotlight to the other musicians. Part of his greatness. My suggestion: do "Solisbury Hill" the version from the David Letterman show. OMG that's fabulous.
A literal masterpiece,a meld of culture, passion, and joy! Another song that hits just like this is Mumford and Son with Baaba Maal singing Thete Will Be Time live in South Africa! A must!
Peter Gabriel is a legend who got his start with Genesis and when he left for his solo career the legend known as Phil Collins took over as lead singer. Peter is a strange man but so so very talented. And he works in a lot of world music into his tunes. I first heard this song when I was a preteen in the movie Say Anything when John Cusack stood outside his girlfriend’s house with a boombox blasting this song. Alllllll the way back in the 80s. Some other great songs he does are Shock The Monkey, Solsbury Hill, Sledge Hammer, Big Time. Check out his Genesis tunes too
According to Peter Gabriel himself , the lyrics of In Your Eyes , which are inspired by the African tradition , can either refer to a romantic relationship between a man and a woman or a divine relationship between someone and his God. Many people think it is about his relationship with former girlfriend actress Rosanna Arquette
I was so fortunate to see him live a few months ago at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX....It was something I really cannot place in the comments....it would turn into a novel.
Really enjoyed your reaction to this!! I actually just saw Peter Gabriel in Austin 3 months ago!!! It was a fantastic show!! He has a treasure full of music to listen to!!
Great performance and nice input from Paula Cole, who in the same concert also did the ‘Don’t Give Up’ duet with Peter (Kate Bush did the original duet recording with Peter but no longer performed live at this time).
Wow. Thank you for this reaction. I've never seen this performance. I have always loved this song, but this was so incredible. Peter Gabriel was a great artist. I feel he was always under estimated. Great job!
Peter Gabriel, Peter the Great. Took his studio version (video) and expanded it in this live version (best live version by the way); to a total Broadway production with a wailing violin, i beautiful female vocalist, and a African vocalist with back up vocals dancing to the groove of the song. Fabulous Live Rendition
I requested this to all reactors reacting to this masterpiece live performance. Please react to " Shaking the Tree" from same performance. it's a song of the tree of knowledge, and Eve....I'm broke, a subscriber, and just a dude. But really think you would enjoy as much. ,✌️

whenever I watch this I think Tony Levin's white knee pads make as much sense on him as they would a giraffe..... if either of them actually went down on their knees they'd never get back up.
To me, a reaction video is no just bobbing your head. There is so much going on here, and it is amazing. You pulling God into this - well… This is an amazing lovesong, however you put it. It is absolutely fair, that you give your feedback on the song for the first time, but I would expect some proper background checking to get a proper feedback/reaction - especially given the fact that you are a musician. Maybe learn the name of who are involved - the performers - for a start. But maybe that is just me.
