@@marvinmurphy5523 Yeah... I know this isn't on Bat out of Hell. I was saying the entire Bat out of Hell album is a classic, so she should listen to it, lol.
Steinman and Meat Loaf were magical together. Steinman also wrote songs that became hits for other artists as well, including Celine Dion, Air Supply, Barbara Streisand, Barry Mannilow and of course Bonnie Tyler!
@@paulmellette8925 I love the fact that Total Eclipse Of The Heart is actually about vampires in love. He wrote it initially for a vampire musical that never got made so slightly reworked it for Bonnie Tyler
The British gothic horror rock band Creeper are keeping the Jim Steinman worship alive with their amazing records. Check out the songs 'Thorns of Love' or 'Further Than Forever'. Such a great band.
Great line. How about I'm living in a powder keg and giving off sparks from Total Eclipse or All the stars in the sky are taking aim at your eyes like a spotlight from Making love out of Nothing at All.
@@TristanandIsolt ,yes. Full of those, not so subtle, messages. I wonder did Jim ever think that an old chap is going to sing these with a straight face? Did Meat ever think about it? Yes, well, most of pop culture lyrics are quite gringe worthy if you pay enough attention to them. Great music and great musicians both, Meat and Jim!
I loved Meatloaf’s cameo in the Spiceworld movie when asked to clean the tour bus toilet he responds “I love these girls, and I’d do anything for them. But, I won’t do that” Love Mestloaf RIP you Rock Opera legend
@@gypsyroadhog Is there a video with Meat and Lorraine Crosby on RU-vid? I only know his performances with Patti Russo. I'd love to see them sing and perform together.
and she was only at the recoding studio by concidence and the female singer that was supposed to be singing across from him didnt turn up and lorraine was asked to sing to give meat someone to bounce off of
The entire "Bat Out of Hell"album was a complete 'Rock Opera' which is meant to be heard in sequence with each song leading directly into the next as part of an overall story in concert it is done more like a play then a show ~
"Paradise By The Dashboard Light" for another great story. "Bat Out Of Hell" for hearing his vocal power. "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad". If this doesn't make you teary, you got no heart.
I discovered Meatloaf in 1978 as a Senior in High School (theater geek) and fell in love with his music (I said 'who is this guy' right after seeing Rocky Horror for the first time). Powerful singer, incredible songwriting, great theatrics!!
There will never be another Meat Loaf. Not even close. He was Amazing and we can all be thankful for everything he's left us in his art. Amazing. Simply amazing performer.
Aileen, we came here for your reaction. If I want to watch the video uninterrupted, I can easily do that. We're here because we LIKE your reactions, so please do not second guess that.
Some things about this video: > It's inspired on both Beauty and the Beast and Coppola's Dracula. > The bed scene is from Dracula, but in that is Keanu Reeves on the bed. > The lady singing is not the one in the video, that's a model lip singing. Her name is Dana Patrick, the voice is from the singer Lorraine Crosby.
Never lie to you, never stop dreaming of you, never move on and never screw around. Those are some of the things he mentions he won’t do. So many people hear the song and ask what he won’t do. They get so caught up in the song that they miss the simplest of things. I think you’ll have fun with paradise by the dash board.
This is such a beautiful and sad song. It's a dialogue between the singer and his love who has died. The beast persona he takes on in the video is representative of his grief. The tragedy of the song is when he says, " I won't do that", he is saying that he'll never move on and never love again.
"Two out of three aint bad" dont go another day without listening to it if youve never heard it. its heartbreakingly beautiful. and as youve already discovered, that voice! RIP Meat Loaf, you fantastic creature
This was a song from the album Bat out of Hell II. There were almost 20 years between bat 1 and bat 2, during that time Meatloaf had actually blew out his voice, almost to the point where he couldn't talk. he spent 20 years learning how to sing again, so his voice is deeper and more powerful and he learned to control it better so he didn't hurt himself again. and as for the mysterious "that" he explains what it is in the song if you listen. "Sooner or later you'll be screwing around" "no i won't do that"
Meatloaf, who for a long time was vegetarian, has a long history in musical theatre. He also has a small but important role in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”!
I'm glad you liked this. I saw someone show a couple of young people from TikTok this video and they didn't care for it much, so it's nice to see someone young can appreciate it. Yeah, basically a Beauty and the Beast/love transforms story.
Most of us have our own experience listening to this song for the first time. But it's a real treat to vicariously experience it again with you and your sincere enjoyment of music and especially the Meatloaf experience. Thank you so much.
Maet Loaf and Jim Steinman one of the best singer and composer combinations ever. Saw Meat Loaf live once every song was it's own little show, one of the best concerts if have ever been to. He also had a decent acting career with 114 credits on IMDB (his breakthrough into big time show business was as Eddie in the Rocky Horror Picture Show). By the way i would recomend "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" I love the intro to this one.
Objects In The Rear View Mirror, Bat Out Of Hell, Paradise By The Dashboard Light, For Crying Out Loud, Dead Ringer For Love (with Cher), Two Outta Three Ain't Bad, Heaven Can Wait..... Take your pick!
“His name is Robert Paulson and he is forty-eight years old. His name is Robert Paulson, and Robert Paulson will be forty-eight years old, forever.” -Tyler Duran
Jim Steinman's wrote the best songs Meatloaf sang. The songs he did without Jim were not in the same league. I'd say Modern Girl was probably the most popular of that era. Once you know Jim Steinman's sound, you can pick his songs out of anywhere. Holding out for a hero - Bonnie Tyler. All coming back to me - Celine Dion. Very big, very flamboyant. Perfect for Meatloaf, as that was his personality! I've seen him in concert twice! True showman!
Keep in mind he's well into his 40s here and he still sounds great. And shout-out to Jim Steinman who wrote Bat Out Of Hell 1&2. They passed within a few months of each other, RIP. (The opening sequence is a callback to his song Bat Out Of Hell)
I was swept up and mesmerized watching you watch the video and in it my childhood... Meatloaf was a great singer and performer and Jim Steinman a great writer, together they wrote and performed some of the most iconic songs of their time. Meatloaf said upon the Death of Jim "We didn't know each other, we were each other." which was eerily prophetic and sadly they passed just 9 months apart...
This music video is said to have a little spin off of Beauty and The Bast and Bram Stokers Dracula. RIP Marvin Lee Aday... RIP Robert Paulson.... RIP MEATLOAF....
I found this on his Wiki page: In 1984, Meat Loaf legally changed his first name from Marvin to Michael because he was "haunted" by a Levi Strauss & Co. commercial which-according to him-contained the line, “Poor fat Marvin can't wear Levi's" 😑
And Meatloaf was a Captivating performer! Did theater in his shows. Amazing talent. Also the woman is a model/actress. She was originally only gonna Lip Sync but Meatloaf asked if she'd be willing to try her vocal 1st. She did and bam perfection. He's like will you sing this with me She was shocked and couldn't believe it. They became close friends.
The female lead voice dubbed here, is from Lorraine Crosby, from the UK. The story goes that when the song was recorded, the lady who was supposed to contribute her voice failed to show up for whatever reason, and they were desperate to find someone who'd be prepared to stand in for her, and they found Lorraine who was recording her own stuff in another studio, so they asked her and thank God she agreed. She has an incredible voice and she had a major input to this amazing video.
Great reaction! Yes go down the meatloaf rabbit hole, you won't be disappointed. After growing up with MTV when they played non stop music videos, I really miss these kind of great videos.
Gotta go back to the originals… Two out of Three, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights, Bat out of Hell. He also had a short but amazing performance in Rocky Horror Picture Show… and Fight Club but no singing in that one.
There was a Dracula movie with Gary Oldman and Keanu Reeves. Something running through the plot is that Dracula falls because his wife dives off the castle wall....fatally. He denies death....denies god....denies it all waiting for her to be reborn....so in the beginning, it says "Sometimes going all the way is just a start."
Oh Aileen, if you like musical theatre, you're going to LOVE Meatloaf. He started off in theatre before going into rock music and his sense of drama (both on stage and off) is legendary. The late Jim Steinman, who wrote all Meatloaf's music, was a fantasic songwriter. There is SO much content in the lyrics: they're like little novels full of clever imagery, call-backs and wordplay. You really can't go wrong with anything he did, but Bat Out Of Hell is a must, as is Paradise By The Dashboard Light. The latter is also bloody funny, being a cynical take on "fairy-tale" romance.
This was my fav artist from his first album (I'm old lol) in 1977 as a sophomore in high school to his very last breath and I miss his special way of drama that made every song a journey. Great channel!!
I just love when you get completely lost in the videos, and then as soon as it's done, you just wake up and realizes that you were actually recording 😀
I'm 44 and grew up on this. I love you love this. I got my 16 y/o son hooked on it. I loved when your eyes when she started singing. It hit when she sung it.
The first Bat Out of Hell album was released the year I was born *my Dad wore out the 8 track player* is out basement. Then when this camr out in the 90's, I loved it too
Steinman and Meat Loaf together created things more akin to old school compositions, they had movements, distinct sections and changes, take them back a few hundred years and Beethoven would have been a fan.
i had the privilege of seeing this live in 1994 and all the way though the song he does not look at his female lead directly until she says "after a while you'll forget everything" in all my years still one of the greatest musical experiences I have had.
Meatloaf could only have started in the 70's. Saw a movie about him.,,When trying to sell Bat out of Hell, the record execs were like "this isn't a song, there are bridges and tunnels .. no way this will be on the radio". Still.. he got it made. Very much recommend listening to Bat Out of Hell. If you do, just a warning, the video of him on stage skips about 1:30 of the "overture", so may want to start with studio version than move to video. The overture is excellent and gives and idea what is to come.
Damn, what a time travel experience. I grew up listening to this a lot as a kid. It was just there, like so many other classics from that time. And now I get goosebumps all over hearing it again with you! RIP Meat Loaf!
My funniest story about this video, is the girl in it is an Italian model ( I forget her name). After the video dropped, she was getting recording contract offers, but she can't sing.
Jim Steinman is the songwriting genius behind many of the Meat Loaf albums, namely Bat Out Of Hell (1977), Dead Ringer (1981), Bat Out Of Hell II : Back Into Hell (1993), Bat Out Of Hell II : The Monster Is Loose (2006), and Braver Than We Are (2016). All other albums are a hodgepodge of talented songwriters, with the occasional track or two from Steinman, and even Meat himself accrued some (co-)writing credits on the 2010 album Hang Cool Teddy Bear. Before Dead Ringer, meat Loaf endured some challenges and difficulties that result ed in him losing his voice, and Steinman was left to deliver an album for the label, and elected to put out the intended material as a solo album, Bad For Good. That was April of 1981, and by September of that same year, Dead Ringer was released with Meat back in action, better than ever. The fun thing, is that BFG and DR have similar production quality and could be considered 2 parts of a whole. Also, many songs for Jim's BFG album resurfaced in new recordings on future Meat Loaf albums over the years. Here's the discography so you know what you;re diving into : 1977 - BAT OUT OF HELL (all songs by Steinman) 1981 - BAD FOR GOOD (Jim Steinman solo album, all songs by Steinman) 1981 - DEAD RINGER (all songs by Steinman) 1983 - MIDNIGHT AT THE LOST & FOUND 1984 - BAD ATTITUDE (2 songs by Steinman) 1986 - BLIND BEFORE I STOP 1993 - BAT OUT OF HELL II : BACK INTO HELL (all songs by Steinman) 1995 - WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD (2 songs by Steinman) 1998 - LIVE AROUND THE WORLD 1996/1997 2003 - COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER (3 songs by Steinman) 2006 - BAT OUT OF HELL III : THE MONSTER IS LOOSE (most songs by Steinman) 2010 - HANG COOL TEDDY BEAR 2011 - HELL IN A HANDBASKET 2016 - BRAVER THAN WE ARE (most songs by Steinman)
I never got into meatloaf. He was an incredible artist with a voice of gold & he was an awesome human being. It was a sad day when he died that was a memory for me
"For Crying Out Loud" from the first Bat Out of Hell album is one of the greatest love songs ever written and sooooo underrated. it has the epicness of Anything for Love, and Meat REALLY shows off his vocal skill. Just be prepared to pause your recording.... if Anything For Love choked you up, For Crying Out Loud will make you weep.... it still does for my black heart, to this day...
Welcome to the world of "Rock Opera" where Meat Loaf reigns supreme! If you're going to follow the Meat Loaf thread, you should go to "Two out of Three Ain't Bad" and then "Paradise by the Dashboard Light (LIVE)" next... no one tops Meat Loaf in the Rock Opera genre!
