One cool thing is that all of motorcycle sounds were done by Todd Rundgren on a guitar. No motorcycles were harmed in the making of this song.

@@TheBlaert i'm pretty sure on this song he uses guitar with a whammy bar. you press the bar to lower the note and then let it come back up to get the revving sound. same thing on the intro to kickstart my heart by motley crue. you can probably do it by sliding up the neck but the whammy sounds better to me

Bat Out of Hell is such an incredible song. The composition, the vocals, the instruments, the lyrics - everything about it. Meat Loaf was one of a kind. The vocals at the end of this song also make me quite emotional, and it's so sad that he's no longer with us. He left behind quite a legacy and it's so refreshing to watch new people discover the wonder and sensation that is Meat Loaf. Great reaction.

Thank you for repping Steinman, people don't understand how important he was to the "Meatloaf sound". Everyone just sees Meat's name on the tracks and always gives him all the credit (not their fault exactly, it's all promoted under his name) but it starts with Steinman and would be nothing without his songs and style. Meatloaf was definitely the ultimate voice of Steinman's work though, that's for sure. Steinman, Meat, and Todd Rundgren are really the Holy trinity responsible for making what people think as "Meatloaf" what it is

Two great old stories on Meatloaf. He was known to be like a wild bull set loose at the beginning of a show. He once kicked over a stacked row of folding chairs on the way to the stage. He gave it all when performing. So much so he would collapse right off stage and require an oxygen bottle to keep from passing out at the end of a show. This became so regular that musicians he played with told stories about nearly stepping over him with a "Great show, Meat!" as they left the stage as well.

I rode the bus to school 7 miles from home at 8 yrs old....My bus driver had the speakers front middle and back thumping with this Iconic Masterpiece of an album from an 8-Track player! It wasn't long till I had every word of every song memorized and many of us would just belt the lyrics out with him until we wore that tape out. The following year the cassette player took over the place where that old tape player was mounted and a brand new Bat Out of Hell album was the 1 and only cassette purchased at its birth! Rock Opera....I'm 53 now, and I've owned countless copies ..... Please react to all the tracks on it beautiful!

The song Bat Out of Hell (BOOH) was composed by Jim Steinman who wanted to write the ultimate motorcycle crash song which was inspired by the 50s song, Leader of the Pack. He succeeded. In the video, both Bat Out of Hell and Paradise by the Dashboard Light, the audio for the female singer Karla DeVito was dubbed over with the studio vocals of Foley. So, it is both a live performance with Meat Loaf's vocals while DeVito's vocals were replaced by the studio vocals.

Though back then, there was a physical limit on what you could fit on a 7 inch disc. You could possibly squeeze 6 minutes on an old single at 45rpm but the audio quality would be totally compromised. Them grooves need space, you squish them, it sounds flat and even muddy. But then again record companies and radio play list organisers quite often agitated for short "single edits" even when this was not an issue (like 12 inch singles, CD Singles). Things like Bohemian Rhapsody happened very much without their permission.

FANTASTIC reaction!. You were probably crying at the end, bc the protagonist in the song died in a motorcycle accident at the end on his way back to the woman he thought was just a one night stand, but wanted more. He had the affair and rode like bat out of hell leaving, then turned around to go back to her, then died in wreck on his way back. He then last saw his heart beating as his spirit left his body like a bat out of hell. Even if you didn't follow the lyrics, the way Meat Loaf sings it so emotionally passionate, the feelings hit you even if you don't consciously know what happened. This is actually my fav song from Meat Loaf, This song is epic.

I’ve worked in musical theatre the past 30 years and you are correct on his roots. Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman met at a musical audition. Meat had done “Hair” and “Rainbow” and he met Jim at an audition. Everything they collaborated on and created was bombastic, operatic, gothic, theatrical, and like nothing before or since. Jim also wrote an entire Batman musical which never was never fully staged. I would have loved to see that happen! These two were as original as they come! RIP

It's funny to me now that nearly 50 years later people are appreciating him and his great talent. I think you might want to react to " 2 out of three aint bad" it's a classic, probably his best. But if you want to react to a hidden gem that he did it's called " You took the words right out of my mouth" it's probably my favourite song of his..

Do check out the full length album version (which is almost 10 minutes long at 9:50)(no studio video). The intro is worth your time (was cut for other media consumption (video, radio, etc.)).. That's Jim Steinman (primary song creator/writer) on piano and producer Todd Rundgren on the Motorcycle guitar. He did that in 1 take. (I think he did the guitar solos too, but I can't confirm it). I still think this is their finest work/performance. (BTW, it is spelled Meatloaf as the copyright cover graphic is incorrect, though the 2 word version does pop up far too often). Something that many don't know is that Meatloaf is an actor first, and each song is a character he plays. He uses a hand gesture (or some other trigger) between songs to change characters in his mind.

It still takes me back to that living room every time I hear it, especially this song. RIP Meat Loaf! And nice reaction, Aileen. Not a day goes by that I'm not thankful to live in an era when we have the means to record these incredible performers.

Meat Loaf was the embodiment of Rock Opera. I was fortunate to see him live. Amazing performer.

They made a Musical of all Steinman and Meat Loafs songs, Called Bat Out Of Hell. Jim never had the chance to see the musical. He died before it opened, but Meat Loaf did . He did theater before music. So he was an actor to.

He was one of a kind, his legacy does live on though, to a degree. One of his daughters is married to guitarist Scott Ian of Anthrax. It’s not really new news since they’ve been together for over a decade now I believe. But Scott and Meatloaf got along well, to the point that when he passed, Anthrax put up a memorial page on their site. It was quite heartwarming and showed a great deal of respect

Crazy thing about that motorcycle revving... that's actually a guitar. Such a unique and awesome solo that starts with that revving sound and slowly morphs into the guitar solo.

Bat out of hell the musical is in Las Vegas. It's cool to see Jim and Meatloaf's come to life in a Broadway musical, which is so awesome to watch.

He loved his audience and felt like he owed them a passionate performance. He was Eddie in the original Rocky Horror Picture Show. Has a great song "Hot Patootie".

The piano is Jim Steinman, who wrote most of Meat Loaf's songs. If you want a treat and haven't seen it, check out The Rocky Horror Picture Show where Meat Loaf plays Eddie. He also sings a song that no one else at the time could sing, Hot Patootie. The writer, Richard O'Brien (Riff Raff) told him to not worry if he couldn't sing all of the words. Meat Loaf just said, "I can sing them" and then proved it night after night during the play's run and in the movie. Meat Loaf did not consider himself a singer. He thought of himself as an actor that portrayed a singer on occasion.

Meat would have loved your characterization of his talent which is spot on. That guy left it all out there every night and was his own harshest critic. Don't feel bad for tearing up, not ashamed to admit I have had a similar reaction with many of his songs. Check out "For Crying Out Loud" if you haven't yet, it's a 9 minute tour de force love song that will knock your socks off. Nice reaction, cheers.

Another song few people reference that he sang was "What Ever Happened to Saturday Night" from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. He sounded great, and of course, acted out the part superbly.

Meat Loaf described himself as an actor that could sing, but most people thought he was an singer that could act. Makes sense though when you see his amazing stage presence.

Thanks for the reaction and I absolutely appreciate the Meat Loaf series. I recommend if you want to hear more Meat Loaf songs, one of my favourites is "Rock'n Roll dreams come true" with Angelina Jolie in the video, "You took the words right out of my mouth" or you can check out his beginnings in the Rocky Horror Picture Show with "Hot Patootie Bless My Soul".

So happy you listened to this - this song is defines how amazing Meatloaf was - most of the record industry wanted nothing to do with this song. It's a classic rock opera. What else? From Bat our to Hell albumn - Two Out of Three Ain't Bad was a big hit, and Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth - both with videos of him live from same concert. Less popular, but better in my opinion are were For Crying Out Loud --.amazing vocals - epic song... and Heaven Can Wait .. beautiful (the live version not as good as the studio..my opinion of course). Then from the same albumn as I Would Do Anything for Love is .. Objects in the Rearview Mirror ... good video for this one.

I do love the way you and other people react to the music I grew up on . I was definitely blessed with all the artists and music of the 60's, 70's and 80's. In my opinion the best music of all time . I'm so glad I get to see you discover and enjoy as I did growing up. I love watching your reactions. Great job.
